Just wondering if anyone has been under MMH for their second, and if you knew anything about the private room subsidy they apparently provide. How "bad" do you have to be? And how much is the subsidy? I really want a private room this time, as I NEED sleep and that definitely contributed to my PND last time. My midwife said I have to be referred to MMH by my GP (getting this done next week) but at the moment, my anxiety/depression isn't too bad. I think it will get worse as the due date gets closer though!
TIA :-)

I was under MMH after having my 2nd. Unfortunately, I know nothing of the subsidy you are referring to. As I only dealt with them after having my 2nd.
I'm not sure how "bad" you need to be. I think it's a matter of your midwife or doctor keeping a close eye of you and making sure they are quick to spot the signs and refer you.
I personally didn't have an issue before I had my 2nd. But I developed severe PND after I had her. My midwife and Plunket Nurse both referred me to MMH.
I pretty much didn't get over the 'baby blues' and just kept going downhill. So it was pretty easy to see I had PND.
If you feel it is getting quite bad. Go see your doctor, as they can refer you I'm sure.

I got it with my last Kiwi bub. Once you're under MMH, they make a care plan and part of that covers the immediate postnatal period. I had the choice of 4 nights in a private room at Birthcare, or 7 nights in a private room at Auckland Hospital, I chose to go to Birthcare. It's not a case of how 'bad' you are, it's about what support you need. For me, it was baby #4 so I didn't need much help with breastfeeding and baby care, but I had 19-month old twins with high health needs at home so it was more about me having some quiet time to rest and enjoy the baby before I went home to chaos.
