to school and how long does it take them , this is assuming you walk with them?
the school my daughter is going to is 2.4kms away.
my plan is for the first few months (or even first 2 terms) is to drive her to school, then after that walk to school with her and then pick her up in the car.

Not far at all. We live probably less than 500m from the school
Yeah I'd say initially going by car is a good idea esp pick up, they get so tired in the first few months! When you start walking her there and home, could she ride a bike or scooter?

not sure about a scooter (which we are giving either for xmas or her birthday) but they do prefer them not to bike to school till they are 9.
hopefully over the next couple of years we will sell this house and move into the zone then our son wont have to go into the ballot.

At our school they can bike to school as long is parent is with them (when under 9) and they cycle on the road. Our DD has just turnd 6 and she bikes with her dad twice a week. SHe does scooter a few times a week too and walk, well we do a mix.
Its closer thou maybe 1km=1.5km never actually measured it.

I agree with mummydee- they get mega tires after school. My DD-5.5yrs is happy as to walk to school but moans constantly if we walk home. We live 1km from school.
She could scooter to school beside u, then u could take the scooter back with u on the buggy if u not allowed to leave it at school.

My just turned 4 year old walks 3.8 km return to pre-school and back , 4 afternoons a week. We just walk at her pace and allow etra timeto get there. Can you start walking a similar distance now to get her used to it ?
Eta it takes us 30-35 minutes one way

oh yeah will defintely be picking her up in the car after school..dont think I could handle 45 minutes or more of constant whining lol.
her walking that far is fine its just a matter of her not stopping to smell the roses so to speak..ie be able to walk and not dawdle

I couldn't trust my daughter to stay by my side if I let her scoot!.
My daughter and I will be driving most of the way to school and then walking the final 10-15 mins (weather permitting). It also avoids that drop-off pile up.
