Hello laides, I've just been researching the costs for IVF through different clinics and there appears to be a huge difference between Fertility Plus in Auck and all the rest, mainly with Fertility Plus being a lot cheaper! We are based in Hamilton and I was just wondering what your opinons would be for those of you who have done IVF if you think it would be possible to live in Hamilton and travel up to Auck for your treatment? Obviously it would be an inconvenience but the difference in price is thousands so worth investigating I thought.

Thanks : )

Hi Cream
We had an IVF cycle done with Repromed in akld and we live in Pukekohe - which obviously isn't as far as Hamilton, but I work in Hamilton several days a week. We're probably going to have another cycle in a few weeks. So, it is a bit tricky, but basically on days that I need to get bloods done but have to work in Hamilton I'll generally get the bloods done in Hamilton. If I need a scan I can go in to work late (They prefer to do scans in the morning) - but I'm not sure if that would work for you? Its a chore but doable to go from Puke to Akld, then down to Hamilton - I just need to be in Hamilton by midday. From memory I had about 3 scans last time. On egg collection day I'll take the day off, but would have to do that anyway.

So the key thing really is how feasible is it for you to get up to Hamilton for several mornings in the week prior to egg collection?

BTW, we had several rounds of IUI with Fert+, and yes they are a lot cheaper, but although they were lovely, I found the service to not always be great - e.g. a different doctor and nurse every time, they often seemed really busy etc. Repromed is in between Fert+ and Fert assoc price wise and the service is fantastic - nothing's a bother, always see the same dr and usually speak to the same nurse, they're small so you get a more personal service (don't have to explain who you are etc every time you ring...)

Good luck.

HI Catie, thanks for that info. I think we could manage to get up to Auck a couple of times in the lead up to egg collection etc as we can plan our work schedules around it fairly easily but at the end of the day the money side of things is less important compared to the quality of service and success of the clinic so interesting to get your feedback there too. I've been trying to find reviews of the different clinics on line but it's really hard to find that feedback of the different clinics. It's certainly not as easy as looking for reviews of a hotel that's for sure : )

Good luck with your next cycle. exciting.

Hi we have just completed our first cycle through FA Hamilton and I loved them !!!
The staff are all great and the nurses all super friendly.
We live North of Hamilton midway to Auckland so it was a bit of a pain to travel especially when you can only get some bloods taken at one lab and it has to be first thing in the morning.
Don't be afraid to ask each clinic to send you some info.
Cost less may not mean bad service.

Hey Cream
Thinking it over a bit more, and now that I've got my schedule, I think I may it seem like you'd have to go up to Akld more than you would. I've previously done sveral IUIs which required lots of blood tests and scans, but this cycle I'm only having one blood test on day 8 and a scan the same day (Sometimes they like you to do a day 6 blood too). So that will be 4 trips in total:
drug pick-up (on or before Day1)
Bloods and Scan on Day 8
Egg collection approx day 13
Egg transfer approx day 16

good luck

Hi Catie, thanks heaps for your feedback. We just got our letter the other day and we have a 12 month wait on the public list so we're going to hang in there for the 12 months and give it a crack here in Hamilton with Fertility Associates when our date comes up and then depending how that goes we'd probably explore our options a bit more when it came to paying for it ourselves. Hope everything is going well for you.

Good luck

Just started my jabs today after many delays and a couple of false starts - it's a loooong story - so good to finally be doing something active.
