Hi everyone (first post yay) I am ttc and also wanting to lose some weight....Dr OZ recently had a piece on a 7 day crash diet by Dr Fuhrman. It sounded pretty good so I was checking out Dr Fuhrman's website and came across this piece about not taking folic acid before of after pregency. I have been taking Elevit but was wondering if anyone had come across this type of warning before. I had seen my doc a few months ago and he advised to only take folic acid when getting pregnant. EVERY thing I've ever read about it says to take it when you are TTC. A natural health perspective says you should Fo all the things like that (and avoid alcohol, caffeine etc) for 3mths in advance of TTC. When I went to Fertility Associates the doctors checked I was taking Folic Acid in advance of TTC. Your doctor is pretty unusual to be saying you don't need it till you get pregnant, it's okay if you start then if you didn't know you were going to conceive, but they say to take in advance if you do know. That bloke appears, from a quick glance, to be a complete fruit loop. The studies he's quoting from (when referenced!) seem skewed, misquoted and completely one-sided (no mention of all the studies showing benefits to taking it). Not to mention he's peddling his own products. Not only am I weirded out by his views on folic acid, I wouldnt' be touching any of his diet plans with a 10-foot pole, based on my opinions of that page alone... -------------
