Hi everyone
There's a thread in here for those under 30, and one for older mums.... and I felt I had no place to fit into!
I'll be 31 in 4 months, and it's like that on most forums, I always find chat groups for younger/older mums but none for the inbetweeners!
So.... anyone else an inbetweener?
I'm Kat, or Nel (my username on all forums) - I'm currently 30 and desperately wanting a baby (aren't we all?!). I've been charting for many many years as a means of not getting pregnant as the pill and other forms of contraception didn't agree with my fussy body. My husband and I were waiting until we were in a better position financially and career wise first.
Anyway, 2013 was our trying starting year - we were not trying not preventing previous to this since August 2011.
So now after getting into the proper TTC saddle I'm charting to get pregnant which is a whole different ball game!

Yay me too I'm 32 and we decided to stop the pill at the start of the year and start trying, I had been on the pill for about 15 years so it seems to be taking a while to get my body back to regular,at the moment my cycle seems so long I've decided ( just today) I'm gonna get onto the charting everything and hopefully that will help Although I'm worried about becoming slightly obsessed lol

Oh cool two more inbetweeners, we are not alone
Thanks avid that's really nice I'm so hoping your dip on your chart is an implantation dip!!!!
I'm very obsessed with charting monkey, I think it's either too stressful for some people and the others just go crazy on it haha. I just love seeing what my body is doing allll the time. Also it gives you a more definite idea of when you can relax/clear your head, rather than BD'ing like bunnies every second day
How many cycles have you had since coming off the pill monkey?
How are your guys partners/DH's on the baby front? Mine thinks I'm going crazy haha!

haha, mine also thinks im going crazy. He does patiently listen when I tell him all about my chart and what it could all "potentially" mean, but then will just say you will know when you know! frustrating but he is soooo right! I was very cool calm and collected up until today. Seeing that dip is making me obsess about everything - Ive been getting cramps today but absoloutely no sign of AF - and I dont usually cramp till the day after she arrives. Ive been going to the loo ever hour since getting to work - but I have had 2 cups of coffee this morning! Cervix is high and medium - definately not hard.
Ive got to the point where instead of being on the fence about it (which I was yesterday), ive kinda come down on the side of I think I might actually be, and am now scared of going to the loo encase cramps turn into AF, and I almost don't want to temp tomorrow encase it drops completely.
sorry, ranting everywhere today but because we haven't told anyone we are trying, I don't have anyone to talk to here (I talk through problems) and because I have NEVER gone through this with a friend - none of my close friends have had a planned pregnancy.

Monkey, when I first went off the pill (1.5 years ago) my first 2 periods were normal, then I had 6 really really long ones (44 days average) and for the last 6 months they have (were) average of 32 days. I was on it for 11 years! so just hang in there. I never charted because we werent trying - I went off the pill because I found lumps in my breast and worried it was the hormones causing them - since found they were nothing but dense tissue - and never bothered going back on them. I just used a Period Tracker app to keep an eye on things because I missed knowing exactly when I was going to get my period!!! One good thing about being on the pill, AF worked like clockwork!

Hi all, I am 35 so not sure if 'fit' the in betweeners category but thought it looked like a great thread!!! I have one child already (he's 2) and we have just started TTC for our second child. Have no idea how long it will take........went off the pill in March but wanted to have one 'natural' cycle before really starting. So I've had one AF and currently CD 7 so let the fun begin, he he!!! :)

Hi ya guys well I've had 3 cycles since I stopped the pill but I don't think you can really count the first one since it was more a 'chemical' one if that's what you can call it and yeah lasting about 44 days too and I'm not sure if I'm even ovulating although hold the phone, I just checked my test and I've 2 lines!!!!! My DH (well not yet but may as well be) is quite into it all loving the BDing of course but last night I was saying I had brought a thermometer and he was like oh what for so I told him and he was quite interested. He has a 13 year old from a previous relationship along time ago when he was a teenager himself so its nice this time to be actually planning it with no surprises.

I am using those ovulation sticks as they are so helpful for working out ovulation. Last time I got pregnant the first month I used them! They take the guess work out of it! Yes, I was on the pill and my first cycle lasted a looong time, well over the 30 days! The first time I fell pregnant (with my son) I ovulated on day 26!!!! So, its possible to conceive even of the body's cycles aren't quite back to normal yet!!!!!
|
Posted By: avidkeo
Date Posted: 30 April 2013 at 7:56pm
Well I thought I was back to normal, but this cycle I appear to have ovulated late! I did have a LOT of stress in January/February, so I think its just the stress affecting my body - but delayed.
Im just hoping!
Monkey, is that 2 lines on an OPK?? have fun!

Oh that is obsessed! tee hehe! Hope you had a good night last night temp down this morning but im hoping its just a small dip, not the beginning of the end!!! Though there is an element of it would be good to just get this cycle out of the way and move on to the next! DH is keen for that hehe!

Haha it's OK to rant avid, this certainly is the place for it! I'm quite lucky, I've got two girlfriends who know I'm trying - and one is also trying as well. Stress really puts my chart out too avid, hopefully you're stress free now though? (apart from charting anxiety!)
Hi Lovebeingamummy, of course you fit in here Are you aiming for a girl this time, or you're not fussed? Wow you got preggers first time using OPK's! That's amazing! You guys must have lots strong healthy genes
That's nice your DH is interested in you charting Monkey, gives you someone else physical in your life to talk to with a little understanding! My DH knows the basics, but he mainly just trusts I know what I'm doing and he's not really interested! YAY for the pos OPK! They excite me waaaaay too much haha GL <3

Just wondered if any of you ladies have thought about doing a at home Female Fertility Test? Not really necessary until 35+, but it'd be really interesting to do one and see anyway if you're under 35. As they are cheap as ($12) and it's only a POAS
Think I'm going to get one.. just because I'm OCD and like to know EVERYTHING I possibly can about my body!

Oh, we didn't get pregnant the first cycle (althuogh I have friend who has done that twice!), just the first time I used the ovulation sticks thingies! I went off the pill and had two cycles then got pregnant the third cycle (I was 32 when I fell pregnant). Now I'm 35 and trying for the second bub. Would be awesome to have a girl but I have loved having my boy so either way we are happy! Last cycle was reaaaaaalllly long (ovulated day 29!) so not sure how this one will play out (went off pill recently so cycles all mucked up). I'm on CD 10 today so we'll see (I doubt CD 14 will be it this month though - after all, it's just a guideline for ovulation isn't it - hence why I like to use those ovulation sticks - gives more surety about ovulation!).

Hey Love, I havent used the sticks, Im thinking about doing that this month, or getting one of those microscopes. Has anyone used them? are they any good? I think Ill just try the sticks this month and if no luck, Ill try the microscope - cost thing at the end of the day!
|

The sticks are awesome - really cheap too. I got them off trademe. From memory it was about $20 (inc postage) for about 40-50 sticks and they are really easy to use. I find them awesome because when your cycle is out of whack you know exactly when (or close to it) you are ovulating so no time wasted. I read that we only have a window of 24-48 hours to get that sperm to that egg so if we miss a window if can be quite a while until the next chance (esp if the cycle is really long as it is for me right now!). I don;t involve my husband with al the details either!!!

Hey - nice to see this thread great work Nel - I thought the same about unders 30's and then over 40! I am 31 DH is a bit older. I have a DD who is 14 and we are ttc our first together I temp and use OPKs but things are taking there time and we are seeing a specialist. All tests so far are good but kinda does not help answer why we are not pregnant.

Hi everyone, I thought I would join this thread. I'm 32 and my DH is 36. He had a vasectomy reversal in December and it was successful however the first sperm results showed low levels but its meant to increase. Last month I got AF 6 days early. I mentioned this to my doctor when I was there for something else and he said it was highly likely it was an early miscarriage. We're trying again this month but I haven't had a positive OPK. I think maybe I started testing too late? Anyway, AF is due in 7 days I think so will wait and see! Good ok to everyone else for a speedy BFP!

Hey welcome Icecream and Beta
What tests do they do when you start to see a specialist Icecream? Sorry if that's a nosy question, I have no idea!
What cycle day did you start using the OPK tests Beta?

I started on day 14 and it was dark but not enough to be a positive and then they got lighter each day so I think I may have missed it. Because my doctor said I likely had a miscarriage I have been wondering if my cycle could be a bit messed up. We BD lots anyway so still holding some hope (maybe stupidly!).
|
Posted By: Nellennium
Date Posted: 06 May 2013 at 9:03am
Oh yeah, maybe start day 10 this time? Or if you don't mind using up sticks start as soon a couple of days after AF finishes so you can't miss OV
You cycle could get messed up, but the human body is pretty amazing and hopefully will recover super fast. Everyone's different though! My first cycle after m/c wasn't that different from my regular ones, just delayed OV a bit, but I was also stressed with work that week so really hard to tell. So many things can factor in!
Do you chart?

Not over OPK's no. OPK's trump everything for pin pointing OV time

Hey everyone! Im going to start using OPK's this month. I was reading somewhere it is best to test twice a day, once between 11am-3pm, and again between 5pm-8pm or something. Is this what everyone else does? I'm thinking to just test once between 5-8 though some sites suggest the optimum time is around 2pm! I am getting a box of 40 strips off trademe for about $20 which is a good price, and I can do this at work as well. Any/all advice greatefully received.
|
Posted By: Nellennium
Date Posted: 06 May 2013 at 11:23am
The strips pick up the LH (Luteinizing hormone) surge that triggers OV.
And the surge can last for 24 to 48 hours.
After a positive reading OV usually occurs within 24-48 hours.
If you really want to know within 12 hours of when it the LH surge started and finished then you could do 2 tests a day.
It's more important to know when it's finished, although you should be BD'ing all 3 days before and both 2 days after OV
I test once a day as soon as I get home from work (about 5PM). I test everyday around OV time until I get a pos and still keep testing each day after until I get a neg.
You should just do whatever works for you though, there is no real wrong way. However it is recommended not to first thing in the morning and also only after a couple of low liquid hours.

Is there any specific brand of OPKs anyone recommends? I've been buying the the First Response ones from the supermarket but wonder if the cheap ones on Trade Me are just as good?
|
Posted By: Nellennium
Date Posted: 06 May 2013 at 11:37am
They all do the same thing and none are any better than the others.
But there can be some big price differences.
I have been buying from baby4you.co.nz at about $45 for 40 strips. Think I'll switch to TradeMe caus they are way cheaper!

Hi girls, First test are bloods at various days in your cycle and swimmer test for DH Since then I have had more bloods to check other cycles and cover more days. Then an ultra sound and last thing I had was a HSG where they fill you uterus up with dye and x ray it filling up and coming out your F tubes. So far everything is "normal" so not sure what next - maybe Clomid?? Or a BFP on our own!
Hope none of you have to go down that path!

Oooo, thanks for that info Icecream - much appreciated.
I wish we could OV twice in a cycle, I mean one cycle, one egg (generally), seems such a waste of resources and time! Now I've written that down I see it doesn't make any sense logically, all sorts of things would go wrong haha. I'm just being impatient!

Oooooo so you're bang in the middle of the TWW! Good Luck!
I used to have an average of 30 days before m/c, last 2 cycles were 33 and then 32, hoping it will go down another 2 days. Just because I hate waiting! Really feel for those that have long cycles, that would drive me batty.
And today is CD5 for me, so we are at opposite ends of the cycle
Been reading all there is to read on the Fertility Associates website this morning, playing with the biological clock the BMI calculator, reading about food/drinks etc.... I'm at work so I shooould be working!

Morning everyone! So this is what waiting is like! The TWW sux because you are trying to read every twinge in your body, Is this a symptom?? but this TWW is also awful! I feel like im just waiting for something to happen. Nell you and I are very similar in the obsession stakes! I OBSESS about everything! ATM we are also trying to buy a house, our first home, so thats adding to the obsession, though again with that we are in a TWW! There is a current offer on the house that goes unconditional in two weeks, on finance. the agent is pretty sure its going to fall over but its hard waiting for that!

I know exactly how you feel Avidkeo. This is our 5th cycle and I'm starting to go mad! My DH is so calm about it and I'm trying to be too, but every twinge or slight pain makes me wonder if its a symptom. So annoying! And then last night I had another friend announce another pregnancy that's happened very easily! Rant over now! :)

I'm at day 28 today. I normally get sore breasts from day 25 but haven't so far. I took a test yesterday and it was negative so I'm not holding out much hope. I'm just waiting for AF so I can get on with the next cycle!
Because I apparently had a miscarriage last month I guess it could take a cycle or two to get back to normal?

I normally get sore breasts before AF too. But the last two cycles after m/c I haven't. So strange.
Also my cycles were a couple of days longer, and AF heavier. Other than that I'm still OV. So hopefully you won't have much different either

Do you use fertility friend? To get the link from them you go to your chart, then 'Sharing' (top right menu) and then 'View' in the drop down menu: http://smg.photobucket.com/user/Cattl_Draco/media/FF_zps74baad18.jpg.html" rel="nofollow">
Then you can copy and paste your personal link from the address bar, this bit:

Hmmm OK, here's my guess - you have a + opk on CD24, which would make you 10DPO. (I'm gonna disregard the dotted coverline)
On CD31 there's a dip, which is 7DPO. Then on CD34 you get a temp rise.
I can't tell without your previous temps, but it looks like the start of a triphasic pattern?
You should post your link in the charting girls thread and ask for opinions there
I sure hope it's triphasic, that'd be exciting!!!!! (Please tell me if I don't make sense!)

Sure thing, if you want to hide certain bits of information you go to that same 'Sharing' drop down menu, and then 'Setup'.
On that page there's all sorts of tick boxes you can tick/un-tick and then save the settings.
You gonna do a test anytime soon?!!!

We have decided to actively start trying next month! Today I got a positive for my OPK - and it's CD19 so good to know my cycle is starting to get back on track (came off pill not long ago). Much better than last month which was CD29!!!! So shorter cycle this time around (should be about 33 days by my calculations!). I hope all is well for everyone out there! Kind of glad we have decided to begin next month - I have a rotten head cold and don't really feel like too much 'action' right now!!! ;)

Hey Nell and everyone. Yep im doing OPK this month! very excited! CD 8 today so I think Ill wait till CD10 before starting. I got 40 strips for $20 so am not worried about waisting them, Figured if I use 10 max per cycle that gives me 4 cycles. FX it doesnt take that long!

Hey Avid You'll prolly work out about what day to start testing this cycle anyways, so the next ones you won't need as many. But I'm the same, not too fussed about using them up!
I'm CD11 today, we are so close!
PS you should link your chart in your signature so I don't have to go back and find it in the other threads when I want a looky /I'm lazy

Hi everyone!
Exciting to hear you're all getting close to the key O dates! How many times a day do you all test?
AFM I'm on CD30 today and feeling exhausted and cranky but that's about it. My DH wants me to test again but I'm scared of the disappointment that could come with it. I don't have any tests but may get some tomorrow if AF doesn't arrive.

Hey Beta I test once a day after work (5PM). Thinking when I get my positive I'll also test the next morning at 11AM though. Just so I can pinpoint if it was the start or end of the surge.
CD31, nice! You tested on CD27? Do you know what day you OV?

Good idea re testing twice. Do you hold on for ages and stop drinking beforehand too?
I think it was around day 15 but I'm not sure. The OPK lines were getting lighter so I have up. I do think my cycle is out because of the miscarriage so I'm not holding much hope.

Hi ladies, I might join in here. I'm 32 and 2/3rds (wow, thats a childish thing to say). We've been sort of trying for 2 years, and actually trying since January. No luck yet. Having a bad day - I've been feeling really nauseous all afternoon, which passes when I eat something and then comes back soon after, its been really frustrating and distracting me from work while I'm trying to finish a report.
Nice to "meet" you ladies

I normally have a water bottle with me all day that I sip on Beta, but about 2 to 1.5 hours before I want to do a OPK I stop drinking and hold on cycles do funny things after m/c, I'm sure your body will work it out though
Hi Porter, welcome to our thread TTC is a very frustrating journey for some >.< I wish you all the best for the future. Do you know why you've been feeling nauseous? Sounds like a pregnancy symptom?

Awww you poor thing monkey >.<
Have you got any gingernut biscuits, or ginger tea, or peppermint tea? Or anything with ginger/peppermint is good for nausea
FF thinks you OV CD28, but your OPK says otherwise..... I'd test tomorrow morning if I were you - as by my calculations you'll be 14DPO tomorrow

I'm so craving ginger beer and ginger ale so I might get me some I've peppermint tea here too so will try that and it's good for bloating too so that might help since I feel like the size of a small house lol

Thanks Nellennium. I had a big run on Sunday (training for a half marathon at the end of June) and my trainer thinks I might not have eaten enough afterwards. I was still feeling off this morning, but it went away after my weights session and breakfast, but it seems to have come back later this afternoon. I wondered if it might be BUT I don't have any other symptoms (sore boobs, implantation bleeding, tiredness) so I doubt it. Plus, everything I've read says "you just know"...and I don't.
At the moment I'm tracking everything via fertility friend, but I'm not taking my temperature yet, we're kind of just winging it. I'm not able to easily do it before I get out of bed, and DF is a little bit funny about it being too clinical (he doesn't think we should be worrying yet!).
Hope you've all had a good day. I had a late one at work so only just recently home. Had a bit of a cry around 5pm (complete overreaction to something someone said) so DF is making me cheese on toast. Ooh yeah, the ultimate comfort food!

Hi Monkeydiva - thanks. I love running, its my favourite way to exercise and destress. The longest race I've done is a half, but I have done some longer runs in recent years. I've been trying to get my body in shape so that I can be at optimum health, so I'm pretty happy with my fitness. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but also I'm convinced its just nothing. AF isn't due till Tuesday, so its going to be a long week waiting! Good luck to you too, hope all signs are positive for you!

Hi ladies I'm the one who started the TTC Under 30 thread wwaaayyyy back when I was under 30 and TTC baby number 1. Fast forward a few years and here I am mum to little miss Bug who is almost 2 and staring down the barrel of another ride on the TTC rollercoaster. We aren't planning to start just yet but have started folic acid and we have a timeline.
I found charting great the first time round as it helped me learn that I had a 16 day LP, good to know saves you wasting money on days 14 and 15 lol. OPK weren't so helpful as I had irregular cycles and would ov anywhere from day 9 - day 26. Charting and checking for EWCM helped me more. After everything it was a hinky cycle I was sure we'd missed the boat on that I got UTD with Bug.
Good luck for all those in the agonising TWW I hope it brings you the result you long for.

What a great group of ladies we have on here!!!!! I have to say that when I was pregnant (first time around) my first symptom was going to the toilet heaps - apart from that the nausea didn't start until about week 6 for me (I thought I had missed it, he he!!). I never had sore breasts like most people seem to and I had a vague period cramp feeling and a bit of blood tinged mucus as well (must have been implantation I guess). I'm on CD 23 now (OV day 19) but only a very slim chance of being preggers this time around as I was too sick over the OV timing (BD 4-5 days before OV so very, very slim chance - super unlikely!). Next month trying for real though!!!! Best wishes all on this journey!!!! ;)

Hi MrsMJD Wow, pretty crazy that thread is yours and still going strong You are most welcome to hang out with us in this thread too!
I wanted to start TTC in 2010 (when I was 27), but DH wasn't ready, so I've been patiently waiting to start for #1. 2013 was supposed to be our year but we've already had the sorrow of m/c. I like even numbers anyway, so a 2014 baby will suit me just fine (staying positive!).
My cycles have been regular for years as I stopped taking all forms of contraception in my early 20's, I used charting as a preventing method. So I guess I'm kind of lucky in that sense.
We do have awesome ladies on here! I'll join ya in making a full on effort in June Lovebeingamummy

Hi girls, I'm "supposed" to be finishing my assignment which is due tomorrow Unfortunately, the internet is far more interesting so I'm doing that instead. I'm two days away from AF arriving, and starting to feel a little heavy in the tummy. Found a "first response" test in the bathroom cupboard yesterday during a tidy up (procrastination central here yesterday), its expired (in March) so I used it this morning. It was negative, as I expected, so I can throw it out without "wasting it".
I had a wee look at a couple of your girls' charts while I was figuring out how to link to mine. I confess, girls, that I am horribly embarrassed at the state of mine (we'll call it the lazy girls example of tracking). So I decided yesterday that I'd go to the chemist and buy a thermometer and start doing this temp thing properly. Holey moley, did you know that a basal thermometer is $116??!! No, me either!! I got a massive shock. Needless to say, I said no thanks, and am having a look online. Is the only necessity that its at least 2 decimal places??
Also, really dumb question coming up (again, so embarrassed that at 32 I don't know this) and TMI warning, but would you class day 1 as actual AF day, and ignore light (really light, barely nothing) spotting a day or two before? Thats how I've always done it (ignoring the spotting) but wondered if I'm getting stuff wrong.

Hey Porter, Haha I'm pretty darn good at procrastinating as well!
I got my thermometer from the chemist, it was $42 - but that's because I couldn't be bothered waiting for a $16 one off TradeMe. So you should definitely shop around. $116 sounds waaaay too spency to me.
Day 1 of your cycle is Day 1 of your period, not including spotting so you are absolutely right.
Whoops forgot to mention that yes, you just need a 2 decimal place reading for your thermometer.

Thats what I thought $116 for a thermometer. It was computer like, it could actually store about 250 of them. Still, thats a huge price to pay. Anyway, I'll check out a few other chemists, I think, see what I can find. It might be too late for the next cycle, however since I'm not going to have time before Tuesday, plus this cycle is going to be a bit stressy/busy for me anyway (exam to study for and sit, half marathon to train for an (almost) run, and year-end fast approaching at work that is going to require some long hours to get my objectives finished.
Thanks Nellennium, thats what I thought (re CD1).

I just used an ordinary thermometer with one decimal place, not quite as accurate but it does the job. If we were going to be using charting for contraception I'd go for the more accurate one lol.

I was the opposite, I used one decimal place in charting for contraception for many years. Then this year switching to TTC I got a proper one, to better chart the minuscule differences

Since Ive started using my TTC thermometer, I have noticed a huge difference. No massive highs or lows in temps, just a more subtle shift each day. thought Ive only been using it for about 10 days now!! hehe. things are moving along at a normal pace for me ATM. using OPK's, no positive yet but getting watery CM so must be some time in the next week (Sorry if TMI)
How long do you ladies get the watery cm before getting EWCM? My EWCM only seem to last for about a day or two at the most.

That's awesome Avid, makes reading the chart much easier aye looks like you are regular with the time you take it too which makes it an even better chart. I get something almost like EWCM/or EWCM up to 3 days before OV, it's only ever 100% clear and EW for one day though and then it dries up straight away.
Apparently keeping your fluids up and drinking water helps to increase EWCM. I'm not too worried, just going to use preseed

Thanks for that Nell. ok this is probably TMI, but currently very watery, and if I really try I get a little bit of EWCM. I noticed last month I only had one day of EWCM but didnt really notice because I thought I had already ovulated. Oh my test yesterday was nearly positive! so kinda hoping today or tomorrow is! makes for a much more normal cycle (for me) if it is! hehe, starting to get excited. now how to get DH fully on board for the next couple of days - dont want to be pushy but dont want to miss the window! I know most guys would be up for it, but DH's drive isnt quite like that.

I'm not fussed on TMI, it's all interesting purely from a factual point to me! I should of been a doctor
What time are you OPK testing? If you feel it was nearly positive it might be best to test morning (11AM) and evening tomorrow so you don't miss the surge.
I hear you about the DH drive not being quite the same. I haven't slept with that many people (so don't get the wrong impression LOL) but out of the ones I have I married the one with the lowest drive! He's a once a fortnight type of person, he's far too logical in that sense - always thinks there's something better/more productive to do with his time, like wash the car or clean the house. Spose I should be grateful he likes to clean haha! My drive is much higher, so quite frustrating

Hi Eliana, welcome!
Nell, I have to say I am so greatfull to you for saying about your DH drive! I have to admit, over the years it is something that has concerned me, but knowing I am not the only one is such a relief!! Must make it so frustrating when you get to ov time! I'm going to just try play nice and see what happens! ATM Im testing in the evening around 5ish when I get home. Didnt think to test this morning. Ill do that tomorrow cause yesterdays test was pretty close, definately a negative but pretty close. And today my CM a bit annoying cause I keep feeling like Ive wet myself! - Im so with you on the TMI thing (kinda think if your completely squeamish you prob shouldn't read these boards cause we get pretty detailed sometimes!!!) hehe - anyway I digress.
ok, so test twice a day from now on, will do!
and in the meantime, we are trying to by a house! Offer went in today, so should know tomorrow at the latest if it has been accepted! wont be unconditional for about 2-3 weeks, but its very exciting!
