My partner John and I have been trying to conceive for several years, however have recently been told by fertility specialists our only chance of starting a family is to find a surrogate to carry our baby for us. I've had multiple operations for fibroids in my uterus and it's basically destroyed my uterus.
I'm having a lot of trouble accepting this and still can't say the words "I can't have children". We desperately want to start a family, and will try and find an amazing person to act as a surrogate for us, but in the meantime I need help with coming to terms with our situation.
Does anyone know any good counsellor in the Auckland region? We live outside of Waiuku south of Auckland, but are happy to travel anywhere in Auckland for someone who comes highly recommended. I need someone who is experienced with these kind of situations to help me get my head together so I'm strong enough to start the next phase in our journey to becoming parents.

Hi sorry to hear of your news. We are in a similarish situation and now having to look for an egg donor. Have you been seen by fertility associates as they have counselors for you to talk to. I don't live in Auckland so unable to tell you of any counselors there. However there are some great forums where you can come and let off some steam and speak to lots of ladies going thorough this. The first one I would highly recommend is http://www.nz-surrogacy.com/ to register you need to have a paid email account such as a work email. It is also a forum where people are looking for surrogates and also surrogates looking for IP's. It may help to just trawl through all the posts to get a feeling of how others feel etc and what they do. They also maybe able to recommend a suitable counselor. Thank you LornaMJ. Yes we are with Fertility Associates in Auckland. They have recommended seeing a councillor there called Joi who apparently has a lot of experience with surrogacy, so we've made an appointment with her next week. I'm starting to pick myself up again now, we only found out our only chance was surrogacy last week so I was feeling pretty raw when I posted. Thank you for the tip about that surrogacy website, would be great to connect with people going thru something similar because I know it must be hard for my friends to understand what I'm going thru.
