Hi All

I am totally new here - I am due on Aug 7th with my first. It's was a little surprise for us.

I'd love to meet other Mums due in August and compare symptoms. It's such a crazy feeling having a little things growing inside you - anyone else feel that way?

I'm tired all the time and it seems like after only 6 weeks my tummy has already popped out (I don't think it's my imagination). Has that happened to anyone else?

K

Hi and welcome KT. Obviously I'm not an August mum but I can relate to the tummy thing. I'm not a big person (even now I'm being asked how many months to go ) but at 7 weeks preg with this one I had grown out of my brand new jeans and that's what sent me off to re-check my two BFNs lol

August does seem such a long way off, but i think time will go really fast and we will have our babies before we know it!!!
I am now 6 weeks & 2 days and have a scan on Thursday, so am really hoping we will be able to see the heartbeat!
Boobs are really sore at the moment and feeling a little bit nauseaus from time to time but nothing too bad yet, the tiredness is quite hard though, am struggling to get out and do exercise after work, just want to go home to sleep! How is everyone else feeling?

Posted By: sparkle
Date Posted: 19 December 2006 at 4:16pm
Oh let me know how your scan goes. I've got mine on the 29th, so a week on Friday. By then I think I should be around 6 weeks. The whole point of the scan is to get a better idea of when I'm due.

My boobs are only sore at night when I take my bra off. I think i'll probably end up having to sleep with it on! Doesn't help that I'm already a DD!

I keep getting cramps, I'm putting it down to my uterus growing! I figure that's a good enough reason anyway!

As for exercise, in the New Year I think I'll start doing preggie yoga and keep up the walking. I'm off work till the 7th of February, so hopefully I'll get into a nice healthy routine.

Forgot to add, am finding it really hard to keep it all a secret. Especially with my friends who expect to have a glass of wine every five minutes!!!

We I have just found out last weekend that I was pregnant, we were only trying for a few months and we are over the moon.

Am now getting a little stressed as I don't want to do anything wrong it is my first pregnancy,

Please tell me I am not the only one that feels like this

Yvette I am totally the same as you! I'm a worrier at the best of times, now that I'm pregnant, I've never been worse! I can't believe I've got another 35 weeks of this! To make things even worse, a close friend at work was sent to the doctors today with a suspected case of German Measles! I just have to wait it out till tomorrow till she gets her results back

How far along are you?

I am 4.5 weeks. I am feeling really blue and have just been in tears.

It is very strange I was so impatient to get pregnant and I know I am happy but am feeling all these funny emotions.

I am really scared of something going wrong

It's definitely the hormones! Chin up!

We found out last Wednesday, so I've only known for 8 days, and it has definitely been 8 days of rolla coaster ups and downs.

Last week I was very emotional and worried. I've had a miscarriage before and my first thoughts were it will happen again. However, 8 days wiser, I'm not going down that road. I'm going to stay positive!

I had my work christmas party two weeks ago, so I would have been 3 weeks pregnant, and had a bottle of wine! I've done my worrying about that!

I've found this site really good for easing my mind about things. Right now it's food worries!

I guess you just have to try and push those bad thoughts to the back of your mind. In saying that, I know it's easier said than done!

Least we've got this site to chat everyone, and everyone is either in a similar boat or has been!

I am also slight confused with my dates - you may be able to help

I was doing ovulation tests so know the exact date of conception which makes me 3 weeks prega's

However even after telling the doctor this she still calculated my due date based on my LMP making me 4.5 weeks.

Posted By: sparkle
Date Posted: 21 December 2006 at 4:19pm
My dates aren't in stone either. The doctor first took it from my LMP, which made me 9 weeks. I knew in my heart that I wasn't that far along, so had a blood test to see my hormone levels, they came back at 4.5 weeks. I'm also booked in for a scan next Friday, just to double check.

I think it's normal to date a pregnancy from your LMP, then when you have your scans they are a bit more precise (someone correct me if I'm wrong?)

Hi there, I am almost 7 weeks and had my scan yesterday. It was amazing, I saw the little heartbeat, was so neat to see! It also really confirmed everything for me, to let me know that there actually is a little baby in there, i have been finding the pregnancy all hard to believe! I am really excited now and feeling really positive about the whole thing.

My doctor told me I was not going to have a scan till march this is very strange.

Are you with a doctor or Midwife?

Thats so cool!!! It must have been so neat to see your little baby's heartbeat!! One week today and it will be my turn!

I've been feeling quite gross in the mornings. I know they say to eat something like crackers before getting out of bed, but the thought makes me even more sick. Today I just lay there from about 7 till half 8! Good thing I'm on holiday from now till the 7th of February, or I would be having some late starts to work!!!

Hi all
There's a few more expectant mums on the board now.
Congratulations to you all.
I found when I was feeling sick with morning sickness, that eating things like crackers and drinking lots of water does help, and make sure you dont let your tummy get empty as I found that was when I felt sick so I ate constantly for 4 weeks.
Also keeping away form lots of sugary drinks helps with it too. Some people I know say choc milk helped them, so it could be worth a try drinking flavoured or plain milk.
All the best with your pregnancies, hoep you all have a safe and happy christmas and new year

I cant remember which code it is but there is a preview button you cna click to check you got the right code.

Hi everyone, I thought I'd get really brave and post in this forum. I am 5 weeks 3 days pregnant after 2.5 years of TTC and my first IVF cycle.
I have had three hCG bloodtests so far - 4 weeks = 297, 4 weeks 4 days = 950, 5 weeks 2 days = 6,200. So it seems that things are going in the right direction.
I have no symptoms so far and I know I'll probably regret saying this, but I'm hoping to get some soon, so that this pregnancy feels real! I am at the very nervous stage right now, as it has taken so long to achieve this pregnancy, I am so scared of losing it
But anyway, I am trying to be positive and look forward to the coming months. I look forward to sharing the experience with you all.

My Husband really hates the nick name.

I have a very bad habit of nick names and this one has stuck.

So when did you all tell Family - I have heard of so many people who wait till the end of the 1st Trimester.

When we found otu we were pregnant with Haleigh I was 4 wks and DF told everyone, he didnt care that the first trimester was the stage you usually keep secret.
Thsi time round I knew I was pregnant but didnt want to test till I was 11 days over my date, so I was around 5/ 6 wks when I found out I was pregnant, but htis time he was a little mroe secretive, we told my aprents his dad, but his mum had to wait till we were 10 wks (shes the one whos the scariest).

Hey everyone. Just briefly read all your comments, and congrats to all you newly pregnant ones! Such an exciting time!

I did a HPT this morning on suspicion I was pregnant, it was a faint positive. I have been having symptoms all week – heartburn, hungry, peeing all the time – in which I only get when I’m pregnant! We weren’t planning on having another child so soon, so was a little shocked, but the idea quickly grew on me especially when I told my husband & he was excited.

So I rung my midwife & she dropped a couple of HPT over to me. I did one this afternoon & it was negative. I felt disappointed & uncertain all of a sudden! I thought Midwives/Doctors pregnancy tests were more accurate than chemist brought ones. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I know you can get negative results even when you are pregnant. I will definitely do another test tomorrow & see how that result comes out. So I’m guessing if in fact I am pregnant I will be due end of August?

Posted By: Lil Nut Nuts Mum
Date Posted: 22 December 2006 at 4:51pm
Yes this happened to me over the weekend.

I did a prega test on Friday night and It was a faint +ve, then I did a clinic test which was negative and two more prega tests which were positive.

I have been told that if you have had a lot of fluids it can dilute your urine to make it negative.

They say a faint postive is a positive. You rarely get +ve's when you are not.

I recommend you do another one in an hour or so

keep us in formed

Good luck hun

Well I know that you won’t get a positive result if you’re NOT pregnant, so I’m going by that result, not the negative one I got later on.

As to your first comment there Lil Nut Nuts Mum, you said you knew when you conceived so you thought you’d be 3 weeks pregnant but the Dr told you you’d be 4 ½ weeks. When you have a scan it should tell you more accurately how many weeks you are. Normally when you miss your period & find out you’re pregnant you just say you’re 4 weeks preggy, even though you would’ve conceived maybe only 2-3 weeks prior. Although my two children came one week earlier than scan date (I wasn’t complaining!!), so they can still not be quite on the money with your due date.

Hope that makes sense! Will let you know how I get on with my next HPT. I would feel like a fool it if came up another negative. We haven’t told anyone (very early days) except for my dad this morning (I have complete trust he wouldn’t tell a soul) & he’s brought around a bottle of wine & chocolates for us, so would hate to turn around & say “Whoops, I’m not pregnant after-all!!”

Thanks Lulu, a huge congratulations to you - it must have been a long time coming huh!

I have done 2 more HPTs today, first one negative with the test given from my midwife, then another chemist test this afternoon & it was positive. Not sure why the other test was coming up negative. I am definitely experiencing early pregnancy symptoms as to why I kept taking the tests, certain I had to be pregnant! I'm coming around to the idea, but my hubby is pretty stoked about it. I'm wanting to tell family & friends but we'll probably leave it another week or so. I'm definitely not one to hold out till the 12 week mark!

And Lulu, if you do suffer MS, you'll probably wish you hadn't! I get awful all day MS, so I'm not looking forward to it at all!

Thanks for all your congrats! It is definitely sinking in, as well at the MS. I am going off certain foods which is really frustrating. I had the stomach cramps over the weekend & being 3rd baby knew it was where the embryo or whatever it's called at this stage is being implanted into the uterus. Quite cool really knowing what's going on inside there. With my first child Rico I had a scan when I was 5 wks 5 days (very early, another unexpected pregnancy so had a scan to check dates) & already we could see the heart beating - absolutely awesome, so I know now that already this ones little heart is going flat-tac.

What normally happens is your Dr will give you a list of midwives in your area, or you can ring your local midwifery centre (save going through your Dr) & speak to someone from there. If you have a friend or family member that can recommend someone that's always helpful! You can meet a midwife first to see if you like them before settling for one.

I'm off for my scan today, then once I have my dates confirmed I have the numbers of two MW's to call. I want to get that bit sorted quick!

I've been feeling like utter c#@p lately! My stomach seems queasy most of the day. I'm not enjoying it at all. I've been eating a lot of bread/toast to try and quell it, but that's just leaving me fat and bloated!!!

I've been on holiday for the last week sleeping on an air bed which isn't the best mind you, and i'm going back to it on Saturday!!!! Why do I do it to myself!!!!!

Well, had my scan. Saw a little heart beat which was exciting. We got two little photos too, not that they look like anything, but still!!

My dates were out by 5 days, so not too bad. Makes my EDD now the 18th of August.

I've also rang a couple of midwives and settled on one of them. I'm meeting her for our first appointment on the 23rd of January. Glad to get that out of the way before going on holiday again tomorrow!

We've got 4 friends coming to our bach with us this weekend, I've got a feeling that it's going to be too hard to keep the secret, especially when I won't be drinking with them all or eating shirmp off the bbq!

I introduced myself a few weeks ago, but I haven't been around much since then, so just to recap:

I'm due 4th August (so I'm almost 9 weeks now), haven't had a scan yet as my 8 week mark fell dead on xmas day so I have to wait til Thursday next week... and I'm SO impatient to get in there and see if we can find a heartbeat!!

Lil Nut Nuts mum - don't be paroniod about not having MS yet. Some woman are VERY lucky & don't experience it much, if at all! You maybe one of them! Also it's still early days it may not come on for another week or so.

But I must admit I feel the same - I thought my MS would be in full swing by now but I'm feeling pretty good so far. I too am paronoid a bit as my sister had a miscarriage in 2005 & so I'm more conscience it can happen to anyone. I'm going to contact my MW next week to make an appointment with her & get a scan form to have a scan soon for reassurance & check dates.

Hang in there!!

A friend of mine had a gorgeous baby boy about 8 weeks ago, and she never had any morning sickness at all. And my mum reckons she never had any.

If you haven't got it, be glad! I threw up in a shopping centre carpark this morning, and I'm sure all the shoppers thought I was drunk

I don't get morning sickness, neither did my mum.... it's so great! but does make you wonder from time to time in the early days when you don't "feel" pregnant.

Italiah you need to have a look at your signature as there is quite a lot of extra coding in there

Congrats all you August mums!

Hey kandice.

My name is Yvette I am 23 and live in Auckland.

This is my first pregnancy.

I can sympathise with the Tiredness I am always tired, i have been told this goes by the 2nd trimester.

I have been lucky and have had only a bit of Nausea.

Ginger beer is good for this

I'm 25 and live in Auckland, so there are a few of us around, just pretty spread out geographically!

Yvette is right, I find ginger beer really good for the nausea and also soda water for some reason. DH brings me a ginger nut in bed first thing in the morning (that's when I'm sick usually) for me to nibble on and I find that helps a bit as well - maybe give that a go? Basically anything that raises your blood sugar level will reduce the nausea.

I've started spewing now

It's so disgusting. I thought I could handle just feeling yuk, but now actually being sick is not cool! The last two mornings i've ended up bringing back up breakfast.

Off to the shops to buy some gingernuts I think!!

Yeah the best one are the mini gingernuts I pop them in my mouth and suck on them.

I went down south to a family farm over new years and decided to head for a walk down to where my hubby proposed last year thinking it would be all romantic.

Got half way and started to smell farm smells and brought up my brekkie, well that was the end of our romantic rondevoue.

You girls are lucky the whole ginger thing works for you, it didn't help me at all with my last 2 pregnancies. I'm just starting now to feel a little yuck, not too bad though. The tiredness is more of a pain. Going to Queenstown for a few days next week so hope the MS holds off till after then, though can fully see myself throwing up on the plane!!

I'm an assistant to a group of architects, it's a lot of fun (most of the time!) but really busy so even at the best of times I get tired.

Another girl who works here went down to four days per week when she was about 5 months pregnant, I will keep that in mind I think. Luckily my boss is awesome about pregnancies and things.

Lucky for all of you that own businesses! I work for telstra clear.. 40 hours a week.. and im usually feeling really crappy by lunch time!

If i had timed it better (pregnancy wasn't planned) i would have not got pregnant for another 6 months then i would qualify for maternity leave... now iv got to take it unpaid..

But at least i will have a job to go back too.
My partner is a gib fixer by trade so hopefully we will be ok, he makes good money when contracting.

I had a cousin that did not qualify for maternity leave and there lil boy was not planned and they were fine, it is amazing how much stuff and help you get from other people.

Things have a way of working out in the end.

I know we are going to have to drop our mortgage payments

I'm a primary school teacher (thank god for these holidays!!) and hubby is an Engineer. I'm 29 he's 31, so a wee bit older than a few of you other girls, but just as nervous and new to it all!!!!

At this stage I'm planning on taking the full year off, then I might just go back relieving 2 days a week. All depends on money I guess!

Babytyme, did they say anything more about the tear?

no, they were not very, how do i put it? They didnt explain much.. And when i went in for my 2nd round of bloods they told me they would call me back in a hour ( thats how long it takes to get results) and let me know, because my first bloods came back with the amount of pregnancy hormone and they were going to match it.. They never even called me! i had my bloods at 10am i called them at 7pm!!

They just said come back in 2 weeks for another scan, never gave me a time or nothing.. now im not sure what to do!

Babytyme - have you spoken to your midwife about this? If you have one of course, if you don't get onto one straight away & she can hopefully explain more about it, & reassure you.

It can be a terrifying time when you find out things. When I was preggy with my first, Rico, I had a scan at 5wks 5days to confirm dates & they told me then it was ominious & I would miscarry!! I was terribly sick with him, bedridden for 5 weeks & lost over 7 kgs in that time so couldn't understand how I could miscarry & yet be so sick, in which I didn't. When I saw my midwife & spoke to her about it she was mad & rung the place where I had the scan & told them off for telling me things like that.

Sometimes they need to keep the information to themselves, they're not doctors.

Keep us updated in how it goes.

i don't have a midwife yet.. a friend gave me her midwifes number and i rung her but shes already booked!

I dont want a midwife that is going to judge me for being quite young, but at least im not 15! (No Offence)

So i have to start looking other places for a midwife.. How far along do you have to be?

I have always contacted my midwife as soon as I've found out I'm pregnant, as they can get booked up pretty quickly. So 4 weeks is never too early to book one. Have you tried your midwifery centre in your town? You can meet them first before deciding if you want them to be your LMC, so if you find they do judge you (which they shouldn't) then you can pick someone else.

BabyTyme, if the midwife judges you for being young then she's in the wrong job. You seem like a responsible, mature person trying to do the best for her baby, so don't let anyone else get to you.

Good luck in getting hold of someone great tomorrow!

Hi all

I just had a positive test on Monday, and my EDD is 31.08.07. I've made an appt to see my Dr tomorrow, but not sure if I need to. I've been pregnant before (miscarried Jan 03), so I guess all I need to do is contact a midwife. Is that right?

Cheers

Hi there.
I never cintaqcted a doctor with both my first pregnancy and this one I jsut went straight to a midwife.
It is best to book midwifes early as they get booked quickly. I noticed in Wellington being still only new here it was hard to find one, I was lucky to even get the one I got. In Motueka I didnt find it so hard, there seemed to be loads of midwifes there compared to WEllington.
They shouldnt have told you something was wrong babytyme esp without explaingin it and without the proper information, I would get onto a midwife asap, and get them to explain it all to you, and noone should judge you for being pregnant at any age. When I was pregnant with Haleigh my midwife had mothers ranging from 16 - 41. I think so long as your a good parent then who cares how old you are :o)
Midwifes generally dont start appointments with you till between 10 - 13wks (depending), but they like to have you booked before that, and they can usually send you for bloods and any scans that are necessary. I saw my midwife for the first time in Dec and see her again on Monday and she sent me for a dating scan and blood tests before she saw me.

Had a scan yesterday and have a baby bean measuring 11.6mm and a heartbeat of 140bpm which is exactly how it should be so that's all good!

Also met with my obstetrician and she said that once a heartbeat is detected there is a 95% chance of a live birth, so I feel a lot more confident now.

No more scans or specialist appointments for five weeks! Will seem like a lifetime after having weekly monitoring to this point

Hope everyone else is well

Thats good to know about the heart beat. I can't help but have a slight wave of panic everytime I go to the toilet incase I see spotting again, but I've seen my bubbas heart beat, so will stop worrying so much!

Had my gingernut biscuit in bed this morning and it seems to have worked a treat, so sickness at all (touch wood!).

Has anyone thought of doing preggy yoga or similar? Preggy bellies runs a course out of New Lynn Club Physical in Auckland that I thought I might check out. Anything that might help

I also have the same panic - it is good to know I am not the only one.

I am going to request a scan from my doctor next week as I want peace of mind that all is ok - however I know I will nervous right up till the scan hoping for the heart beat.

Good news on the Morning Sickness. Mine has just sunk in over the last few days and I have been sick once a day.

May I need to keep up with the Ginger.

I am thinking of getting a DVD from work for preggy yoga. I have been doing a Body Jam class for the last 3 months which the doc said is find to continue with.

I've been thinking of doing preggy yoga, there is a new group on the North Shore that I might try out. We've been playing a bit of tennis and walking as my energy levels during the day are good. No nausea for me either at this stage, fingers crossed this continues.

Congrats on hearing the heartbeat, it's especially fantastic news as you've been through so much to get this far

I just got back from my first scan, bubs measures 3.22cms and I swear s/he waved at me on the screen! It was very, very cool to finally get to see him or her.

Hey All have just found a good thing for Nausea - Flavour ice/sno pops.

The kiddie iceblocks that come unfrozen and you freeze yourself.

I have had a few of these today and it must be the sugar that helps.

What do you all know about getting a scan can I go and request one from my doctor? or do you need a very good reason

You can ask for one so to check your dates, they should be fine in giving you a scan form to go & have one. They normally do one at 12 weeks, then around 20 weeks, but if you want one sooner they should give you one. I've always had them earlier than 12 weeks, you can't see much but it's still awesome & reassuring to see the heartbeat.

Great idea about the iceblocks, nice too on these warm summer days. I'm having a food war at present, gone off everything I'd normally eat, & all day I've been craving chicken fetticcine!! So am going to order some for dinner. Can't wait.

How many of you are going to try & find out the sex of the baby?

It's so common these days, but some still tend not to find out. I think we are going to. We have tried with our other 2 & couldn't see with both, so they were lovely surprises which was awesome, but we will try once again to find out.

I seem to have lost my appetite, I am usually a big eater.
