Hey everyone, and thanks Emma
Now that I'm here though, with this thread, I don't know where to begin!
I guess ...Is anyone else out there??? is a good start!
Christmas and New Years were relaxing - we haven't been up to much, just pottering around home, making the most of time off.
On the TTC front ...
My period arrived, on schedule, again this month and has just finished, so another cycle has rolled over. I've lost count as to whether we are on cycle 20 or 21, but it's getting up there.

It's fine Kazzle
We thought we'd give it a good six months after my surgery (which was in September) to see if we had any results naturally. My endo specialist will refer us to a fertility specialist as soon as we request it, but we want to give it a good 6 months or so after the surgery. We have male fertility issues, as well as my own. We'll probably make the decision around March/April as to when/if we'll take the plunge. I'm not expecting to fall pregnant naturally. DH was against fertility treatment, but as time passes, he is getting a bit more time to think about it. For now though, I'm trying to enjoy life with just DH and my animals and gather some strength - physical and emotional, for what may be to come.
Mostly I am ok, and to be honest, I was completely fine when my period arrived this month ...I'm used to it I suppose. But, my Mum phoned this morning to tell me that my brother and his wife have announced an unexpected pregnancy (my SIL is older, about 46/47 with two children in their early and mid twenties) (my brother didn't want to tell me himself because of my situation), and to my horror, I started crying when she told me, and I haven't been able to stop which is completely horrific. I guess that's what happens when you start putting all your feelings in a box.

Oh Ginger big hugs my friend.
as i said i can only imagine how you are feeling...
When i feel pregnant with Rhiannon we found out the same day my friends found out that due to both of them that they cant have kids...so it was kinda awkward, and she cried as well...she has also just found out that one of her other friends is pregnant and i spent a couple of hours on the phone with her yesterday while she cried and stuff.
but as i said to her...its natural to be upset, and although you are happy for the other person you are also griving for what you cant have at the moment.
I know things will happen for you...i just have this feeling and i also think that DH will come around as well...just dont box things up...and when you need to just come in here and let it all out
Thinking of you...sending lots of hugs

I too didn't know where to start Ginger, so i'm glad you did....anyway I'm still here too.
Have recovered from Surgery really well, well i think so. However i did push it and went back to work a little early, but then had two weeks over Christmas to sit back, relax and enjoy life. AF arrived about 3 days late this month, kind of knew it was coming so wasn't too shocked - am thinking it was a little off due to surgery. Nothing seems too different about it, except (probably TMI) it seems to be very bright red blood, don't recall it being that bright.
We have already booked our appointment with the Specialist for Mid March which is the three months of trying naturally after surgery, during which she fully expects us to conceive, i'm not so convinced, probably just trying not to get hopes up too much. We've been trying now for nearly two & half years and don't want to wait much longer, thought it was best to make appointment now so we didn't have to wait a month from booking to see her.
Am trying to live a healthy/relaxed lifestyle with a focus on me, i'm back to the gym, eating right (well 90% of the time), no alcohol during the week (that's the aim anyway) and have just arrived home from having a fantastic massage.
So here's hoping this year is the year for us and you too Ginger....

Hey mellybelly!
I said to Al that I want to make an appointment with my endo specialist for next month, for a referral to the fertility clinic. She said that we should be pg within 3-6 months after the surgery, and it's my fourth cycle now - so we'd be going back on the 6 month mark. I want to give it 6 months because we have male factor as well, so we're a little bit up against it still.
I'm so, so pleased that your AF wasn't too different - my was horrendous, and the pain for the first 3 after surgery was awful. I'm exactly the same as you - bright red blood now. Apparently that is healthy and the way it should be! Go figure.
I was feeling quite miserable last week with cramps, which seemed to hit a peak yesterday, though today I am much more comfortable. I said to Mum that I wonder if, endo aside, I'm just one of those people who have bad cycles regardless. Oh joy!
Fingers crossed you're right and that this year may be the one in which good things finally happen.
I find it hard to be positive - my specialist expects us to conceive naturally as well, but ...well. My surgery was in September, and not even a hint of anything interesting has happened, except that my cycles are now 29 days, like clockwork. They even arrive at pretty much the same time in the day!

How long are your cycles thereabouts Jess? Do you have regular ones, or are you a bit spasmodic?

My name is Cheryl and we are going through IUI because of Dh's infertility. My son Jacob Benjamin was conceived 4 years ago on our first try and with help of Clomid as I was not getting a period every month. Jacob has mild form of autism and we have decided to bite the bullet and try for another one, we are waiting until about July when things are not so hectic.

Hope to have a positive outcome from you in July

Hi kiwigal ...welcome to OB! All the very best with your IUI - I take it that you are booked in for July? What is your male factor? eg. how extensive?
I have endo and PCOS, and DH and I have our first specialist appointment for fertility treatment next month We're hoping beyond hope that that will mean a baby on the way for us sometime this year.

Ug! Day 38? Bollocks!!
It's same old same old for us - we have just finished cycle 24 with nothing interesting happening, except for my endo symptoms coming back. Joy!
We're going to the FA seminar tomorrow night which will hopefully be interesting and informative ...and I'm hoping to find out more about IVF since I'm pretty sure that's where this is going to end up. Mind you, due to a family wedding early next year,we are also wanting to avoid anything happening for the next 2 months, which seems weird ...but I figure, what's another couple of months?
How're things with you? OK?

Ug. Very uncool!
The only thing I can suggest is making a note of when you had the discharge, and then perhaps testing about 14 days after that if no AF.
I am so lucky (??) to have very regular AFs. Even if they're no use at all (as in, I still can't manage to get pregnant!!), at least that's something I don't have to worry about.
I hope something at least happens soon!

We are going into FA next month so no doubt I will be on Clomid again.

I feel really crappy posting this here cos I know you all have been waiting a lot longer than me. I'm pg.
My body has done a complete 180 this month and I have been feeling like crap, haven't been able to stand up straight properly due to cramps, apparently that might be o pain? So the docs were right that I'd never o'd before, just happened that the month we weren't charting we had lots of cuddles and I managed to o. What a waste of $250 for tests etc! Just kidding.
Good luck to everyone, I have no advice because I have no idea how the hell this happened, but am thrilled nevertheless.

I think I have to take northisterine for 10 days then ring on my first day of my bleeding.I wonder if you are allowed to do the IUI on the following cycle?

Hi everyone... I'm new to this, but have been looking for a while for somewhere to discuss feelings and issues to do with not conceiving so hope I am in the right place.
My name is Kirsty am 32 and been married for 4 years. Hubby and I have been trying for the last 18 months or so with no joy. I have PCOS (and VERY irregular cycles) and am diabetic (thanks PCOS) and overweight (again thanks PCOS!!).
All my friends seem to be able to just think about a baby and are pregnant... It is getting really demoralising...
Last year I stumbled onto the Ovacue - anyone else heard of it? It is a wee gadget that tests saliva and vaginal fluid electrolytes to give about 5-7 days prediction of ovulation and confirms this has occurred. This cycle managed to identify ovulation 2 weeks ago and managed to time everything right... Negative test yesterday though... needless to say was more than a little emotional . Poor hubby is absolutely incredible.
Anyway... Just wanted to say hi and have a wee vent... turned out to be a bit of an epic story though hasn't it? cheers everyone and I love reading the support you all have for each other!!

Hi Kirstyg Ive just been diagnosed with PCOS as of last week so its all new to me! I just had a friend give birth to a beautiful little girl today after a month of trying...and another girl I know who has recently had 2 abortions and is pregnant again and is keeping this one! its depressing! I have a saliva scope thing but not sure aobut the 5-7 day thing? it just shows me ferning when I may be close or are ovulating, but even with that "sign" my Dr said cause my cycles were longer than 40 days long I probably wasnt ovulating...so it may not be a 100% method of determining it??? guttered about the negative test! Have you been seeing a specialist or anything?
|
Posted By: kirtsyg
Date Posted: 22 May 2007 at 11:14am
Hi Kye... good site is www.pcosupport.org. Not under a specialist at present as my diabetes was only diagnosed last year when I went to GP to get referral to specialist. Have been busy sorting that side of life out and using the ovacue (check out fertilitysolutions.co.nz) which goes the next step to the microscope. I know what you mean about the long cycles, that is what I was told when my PCO was diagnosed (wasn't interested in a family at the time so didn't matter then). My cycles are anything up to 80-90 days, so it was great to get the ovacue and if nothing else I know I do ovulate. Not every cycle, but at least it does happen. Now that the diabetes is sorted I will be heading back to my GP (who is on maternity leave!!) to get a referral to a specialist for help. My specialist I saw last time said we would try Clom as soon as I wanted a family - so have seen someone in the past, which is good from a history side of things.
Anyway check out the ovacue - it is expensive - but if it works then what price for a baby? and the NZ distributor is a really lovely lady and very helpful. Happy to answer any questions for anyone though.

Kye well done on your loss... Keep it up girl!
I am on cycle day 74 and I think I ovulated about 3 weeks ago... Did another test yesterday just to make sure and still neg... Oh well...
I did however ring my specialist and spoke to his nurse. As I have seen him in the past I do not need a referral from my GP and they had a cancellation for tomorrow morning so am going to see him then! Am hoping we can start provera and clomiphene fairly quickly... A bit anxious about it.
2 of my frinds both had girls on Thursday and I was just a wreck... did manage to drag myself to the hospital to visit them both even though it was really hard... Hubby kept saying he was really proud of me... I really do have a great one don't I?

Good luck for your appointment tomorrow kirstyg! long cycles are so frustrating arn't they! I was on CD 109 when provera brought me AF! I hope things get sorted for you soon! They will do a pergnancy blood test before they pescribe you provera! and since you think you ovulated 3 weeks ago there is a chance you might not need it at all! that would be so cool!! fingers crossed for you!
I have to wait for a couple of weeks and then have another pregnancy blood test before i can start my next course of provera and then an increased dosage of clomid since i havn't ovulated on this course i've just done. so just waiting waiting waiting......

Hey thanks Noodle... I am hoping to go straight on the higher dose of clomid... I used the normal dose about 2 years ago with no luck (after that had a wee emotional crash and burn so has taken me this long to be ready to get help again). The ovulation about 3 weeks ago came as a complete surprise as I usually don't!! WOuld be nice to not have to use anything, but I'm not holding my breath...

I know those feelings kirstyg I did one round of 50mg clomid and one round at 100mg this time last year both with no ovulation and the one i have just done was also 100mg next round 150mg so will see what happens, I think in this TTC game (when you have been doing it for a while) You tend not to hold your breath much!
I really hope it all works out for you!!!
kiwigal I think you have told us before but i've got a shocking memory but what is your plan of attack now? Clomid? or was it IUI?

thats great that AF arrived Kiwigal and fingers crossed that the clomid and iui goes well the end of junes not that far away either Kirstyg sucks having long cycles ahy!!! and good on you for visiting your friends and bubs, takes a lot of courage when do you start the provera and clomid? miricles can happen so fingers crossed af hasnt arrived for a reason! Noodle I hope that the higher dose works for you do you have to wait for AF to arrive or take provera again?....I have a question...as you girls know just been diagnosed with pcos and af is normally around 47-50 days which is around now and today...(I have no idea why I did it!) but I was cleaning the bathroom cupboards and found ov tests which I have given up doing as I never seem to get an lh surge...anyway did one for the hell of it and it was the strongest line I have ever had...way darker than the control line....I have no other signs of ov so I take it that this maybe a symptom of pcos that I havent had yet rearing its ugly head!!!! does anyone else get this?

Just remember that hormones are not at all regular in PCOS so you can get some odd timings for these things... Also I have heard that if you are over about 30 years old you can actually ovulate 2-3 times up to 2-3 days apart each in a cycle... especially if the cycles are long. This is the reason there are an increasing number of non identical babies in "older" mums. This could well be the reason... Also just check the expiry date... I know that a couple of cycles ago my ovacue gadget told me that I ovulated twice in a cycle...missed it until too late though... Ain't hind sight a wonderful thing??

oooh kye i've also heard that ov tests can pick up the pregnancy hormone aswell, do a pregnancy test to see! Just in case!!!
(correct me anyone if i'm wrong!!!)
oh and i have to take provera again to bring on AF before taking next round of clomid!
have to do a Preg blood test first and when that comes back neg i can start, the nurse told me to wait until about the 7th or 8th of June.

Well was this day meant to be or what??
Went to my specilist this morning and had a really good chat with im. He has prescribed me clomiphene to take for the next three cycles on days 5-9. Yay!! (that was why I asked about the days on which kiwigal was taking the tablets). Anyway he decided to not give me provera as being a diabetic it can really throw blood sugar levels off and make you more sick than most. Was a little disappointed that I would have to just wait it out... AND THEN tis afternoon started to get the usual light spotting and a few tummy cramps... Looks like AF will be here in the next couple of days and I will not have to wait long after all...
All this on top of getting the appointment to see him really quickly due to a cancellation... Was this meant to be or what??

awesome kirstyg thats so exciting isnt it funny what our bodies do! the last two times I have made an appointment to go to the gp about not getting af I have had spotting both times the day of the appointment! and the next day af arrives! its like it knows!!!! I did another opk and the line was still really strong so Ive ordered some hpt on the internet as I have in a small community so the whole town would know if I went to the chemist! and ive got a friend who is going to the city tomorrow to pick me up a hpt too so I dont have to wait for the mail so that will confirm if its pcos playing havoic with my lh levels or something else...af hasnt arrived yet and the last two have been between 47-50 days long and its day 48 now so im not getting my hopes up but theres always that chance that miricles do happen! wish you clomid girls well

HI Ladies just a quick question... I was told once that Day 1 of cycle is the first day of significant bleeding before 12 noon (not even sure where I got this from now). AF has pretty much started this afternoon (tmi - not usual heavy flow yet though)... How does everyone else count days is today 1 or tomorrow 1?
It has been a very long time since I was this happy to see it!!!!
Oh and thanks for the big support - I have one friend who is amazing, but as she is preg at present she is just not the same as others who are in the same situation... I really appreciate you all!!!!!

Hiya Kirsty ...for the purposes of fertility treatment, day 1 is usually viewed as the day that you wake up with your period. If in doubt though - check! I'm big on checking ...double checking, triple checking, quadruple checking ...sigh

Had a blood test done this morning on day 9.I got a phone call from FA and they wanted me to come in and have a gonal f injection.I asked one of the nurses what my levels are doing and my estrogen level is below 300.I have to have another blood test done on Wednesday to see if my level has risen after taking this injection. If not then I have to give myself another shot.

HI everyone.
AF never really turned up properly for me this cycle, but did get a bit heavier (TMI I know!!) but I remember a friend who is an ultrasonographer telling me once that as my cycles were all over the place and some were anovulatory that can be the difference and that funnily enough the ovulatory cycles would be the ones that were a bit lighter. I will get back to her and ask her about it soon, but at present she is at home with a miss 2 wks so don't want to bug her too much at present.
Anyway I am now on day 4 of clomid with no real side effects... I just feel a bit off, which can be normal and am off food a bit.
Last day tomorrow. Had a "serious" talk to hubby a couple of days ago about the importance of him staying well hydrated and being prepared to "do his bit" on alternate days no matter how tired etc he is feeling. (Just wanted to clarify everything for him... I was shocked recently to discover how little he actually knew and understood about the whole process!). So we are all systems go and busy temping, saliva scoping and taking ovacue (check it out... fertilitysolutions.co.nz) recordings morning and night in between it all... something has to work surely???

Had another blood test done this morning and my estrogen level has dropped even further. On Monday it was just below 300 and today it was 160 They want me to another gonal f today and had a blood test on Friday. If my estrogen doesn't go back up then they will discontinue with this cycle

Yay for no side effects kirstyg! Fingers crossed the clomid works for you and you are producing a nice healthy egg!
kiwigal Its so disheartning aye you get all worked up for something to FINALLY happen and it doesn't its just not fair!!!!
I'll keep my fingers crossed that the injection does the trick?
what mg of clomid did you take? They will prob up your next dose.
my next one in a couple of weeks i'll be taking 150mg
