Wow I never knew how quickly trying for a baby could get frustrating. End of month 1 and 3 tests tell me I'm not pregnant but no period yet. I think the most annoying part is that there are some symptoms there that might have been or might not have been and to see a negative result is mildly frustrating (I can't even imagine how others must feel who have been trying for some time). I think I'm just run down and the short time on the pill has muddled my body up a bit.

Next month we're going to start charting my temperture and monitor when I'll be ovulating (fingers crossed).

Anyway, thanks guys..just had to get that off my chest.

I think trying does funny things to your body.  I was getting all sorts of pregnancy symptoms.  I think the worst bit is not knowing.  At least once you know you're not you can focus on the next month

Well fingers crossed - I popped down to my doctors office...I'm popping back for them to do a pregnancy test after work. If still negative but still no period by Friday the nurse wants to arrange for a blood test.

Knowing my luck my period will show up in the next 3 hours! *lol*

sometimes it can be a bit early to test. but just remember to try and relax.. stress does nasty things to your body. you hear of so many people who conceive when they finally decide to give up trying.. cos the finally relax and let their body do the work. good luck

It was another negative...will still do bloods if no period come monday though becuase that would put me almost a week late.

I think in the long run what with having just got married, a short stint on the pill, Christmas and being totally stressed with work my body is going into it's own little shut down mode.

It's only our first month trying so I'm not to worried yet as I say...I'll panic after a year! All the same...time to find a relaxing hobby me thinks!

there are some sites on the net that have ovulation calculators.. i went through and found out mine not long ago and it turns out that, lol, the only time me and my hubby were "intimate" in about 4 weeks around aug/sept, happened to be the day that the calculator said i had ovulated.. no wonder i got preggers!! maybe you can try that in conjunction with the temp thing and all, and mark down the dates on your calendar.

yep stress can make your body do strange things and the hardest thing to do is relax, but that is the best thing. it is very easy to let getting pregnant rule your life, i used to spend all month obsessing about it and drive myself crazy. your age is on your side, i would just go for it and not worry about charting - it can take the joy out of sex sometimes (especially for men).

That's what I was worried about with Charting but the funny thing is that it's my husband who is all go for it! I think it's cause he can't wait to be a Daddy (yes i warned him about nappies and lack of sleep and everything else I could think of).

You're right though...neither of us want it to become a total obsession!!

Yep I am in this category too. My last post was "ttc after miscarriage" and we are still trying!!!

I'm now on Serophene after several months of missing periods (that I'd put down to the miscarriage). It turns out I haven't been ovulating (or very rarely) so even the first pregnancy was a huge fluke!!

The spontenatiy of it all goes out the window a bit when you have to pay for treatment and then use OPK's, temps and at least two blood tests on specified days in the month!!! Still - worth it if it works!!

Anyway all going well, I am due to ovulate Sunday - fun weekend planned huh?! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is all the help we need though - even less fun if we need IVF or something!!

Anyway, best of luck to you guys, I have fingers crossed for you too.

Fingers crossed for you too!!!

I gotta admit there is a huge part of me that is fascinated learning all this stuff that my body actually is doing etc etc....maybe I'm just odd.

And my period did turn up finally....the night of the test!!!

Had another talk to B last night and he is determined to chart so if he is then I am.

Yeah I know what you mean. I certainly have learnt so much about what happens in the girlie department (or unfortunately for me what is supposed to happen and what isn't supposed to happen).

Luckily my husband has been really great. He did all the right supportive things during and after the miscarriage and is right with me on the charting etc. Sounds like yours is too which is excellent.

Best wishes.

Have you done a test? What did it say?

The bad news is when I spoke to the nurse at my doctors office she said if you are late by several days a test should be showing positive if you are pregnant...otherwise most likely not....boooooo....still if nothing turns up after a week you can get bloods done. Just in case.

*fingers crossed*

Hi
Yes frustrating is definitly one way to put it! I'm only 25 though so I still got enough time. I've been together with my husband since I was 15 and we both wanted to be young parents, but so far no luck. I found this site by accident and its kind of comforting to know there are other people out there who have the same dramas. So thanks guys.

i stopped taking the pill about 3 years ago and had regular as clockwork periods untill 2 months ago when i started having 1 longer and 1 shorter which is what i was doing before the pill. i have been trying for a bub for about 4 months now and its made it a bit more frustrating that i dont know when im due each month so i have to wait about a week after i think im due to know if to test. thinking now that my body has taken all this time to get back to normal after the pill

It is a bugger that there is no magic button to push!!! (if there is I want one!!)

I have just purchased some ovulation tests to try & help the situation as my periods are not regular (sould be 21 days could be 28!!! (makes it hard to judge!!)

I'm on CD 19 and still waiting to ovulate which is a little frustrating too, since I always assumed that it happened around the middle of my cycle. Oh well, shall wait and see. We're not trying atm, probably not till after the wedding, but I've started taking my temp every morning to keep track of things.

I'm pretty new at it too, but there's a website www.fertilityfriend.com that gives you all the info you need, plus you can chart your temps online. Basically, you buy a special BBT thermometer (mine cost me $20) and then you take your temp at the same time every morning before you get up. You should see a pattern of lowish temps then all of a sudden your temp will go up by a big amount like 3 or 4 tenths of a degree. Once you have had three days of high temps you can be sure that you've ovulated. Ovulation occurs on the day before your temp goes up, so for the first few months timing is a bit of guesswork, but after a while you should start to see that you usually ovulate on day 12 or day 14 or whatever, and you can plan around that.

This is a link to my chart which might give you some idea what I'm talking about, plus there is heaps of info on other fertility signs etc.

Hey everyone trying to conceive not sure if i have mentioned this before or not but my Midwife that i had with my first baby suggested taking vitimin E capsules 1000mgs per day as that is what her doctor told her.  I was talking to her yesterday and she said that i am the second women she had told to take it and has got pregnant with twins, not sure if taking the vitimin E had anything to so with it or not.

Good luck to all of you.

Maybe you want to check with your G.P.   Pregnacare has 200% of your reccommended daily folic acid intake (which is fine when you are TTC). But if you are also taking folic acid tablets as well you may be overdoing it.

Man reading that i kinda sound bossy, im not really its your choice. I have just heard of so many people taking mulit vits etc thinking that they are doing their body good and really they were doing themselves more harm. A good example is a friends father (this is at the extreme end) had to go for a yearly medical for his job and they found that his liver (i think) was like that of someone that was a severe drinker (hes a tea totaler). Found out he was getting enough vitamin A (i think) through his diet but with the extra from his multi vit it was doing heaps of damage. Got his wife checked and she was the same.

No you're not bossy at all!!!

I really appreciate the advice!! I will check with my GP.

I think the problem is that I've had some people tell me I need to supplement the Pregnacare with the Folic acid because there's not enough.

I'll give the doc a call and post and let you all know.

But don't worry at all about being too bossy! I love you guys for your concern!

My GP told me just to take the Pregnacare while ttc, because apparantly high intakes of Folic Acid for an extended period have been linked with breast cancer. Not proven yet, but there is some evidence. But the Pregnacare does contain enough folic acid, so I just stopped my usual multivit and started the Pregnacare one.

I am pregnant now for the second time (had a m/c last year, but this one has gone perfectly so far thank goodness) and both times I got pregnant we had just decided to give up trying! Maybe there is some truth in the stressed out thing? Anyway, all the best, keep trying - at least it is fun

Well we didn't really "try" this month...we had a weekend away with a group from our church right around the time when I should be ovulating...so with the deed performed only on the Friday night and us either being exhuasted or sharing a house full of friends from church and a really bangy head board...it was not conducive to baby making this month...

Still you never know...only takes once right? *lol* I'm not expecting anything.

Back on track next month!

Just wondering if everyone was aware that you ovulate 14 days BEFORE your period. So in hindsight, you can get an idea of your fertile time for the coming months. eg of a 28 day cycle - ovulation day 14
but of a 32 day cycle you wouldnt have ovulated until day 18! Sometimes people get confused with the magic dat 14 thing and may miss the 'peak time'. You can confirm this by charting your cycle with temps and mucus obs. This also means that if you typically have long cycles - there is not point in preg testing until 14 days after ovulation
Wishing you all the best

Not everyone has a Luteal phase 14 days, that is just the average lenght of most women.  The phase is the same lenght for a women each month.  Mine is 12 days

I do the BBT thing, I don't know why my LP differs? I do know that it is a little on the short side, but my OBGyn doesn't think that's a problem. He also told me that even when you are 100% accurate with your BBT temping you can still ovulate one or two days either side of the temp rise, so maybe that explains it.

I guess I'm lucky that it's the 2nd part that varies here - it helps to know when I'm going to ovulate when we want to AVOID conceiving lol - otherwise Willie would be missing out a whole lot more! One my temp goes up we know we're pretty safe.

When I used the detection kits last month I ovulated right bang on day 14...we didn't test this month becuase we knew that we wouldn't be able to do anything when we had to seeing as we were away with a group from church...I'll see what happens next month when I start testing again....
