I know I'm being nosy, and feel free not to tell, but how old are you all? It seems to me we have quite a range of life experiences here, and I was wondering how old some of you are. Yes, you can be shy and tell us in a range (25-30 or 30+ or something like that)

I'll 'fess up first: I'm 24.

I'm just turned 24 and am the baby of our playcentre! I think part of it is the area, but most of the mothers there are early 30's. Just as well they are a good group of people

I'm 20 and the youngest at hannah's creche. I've actually found that once you have a kid that age doesn't seem to matter! Even the older mothers seem to treat me as if I'm one of the 'parent club'

(by the way - LOVE the parent club. Made a million new motherly friends in parent's rooms all over the country!)

I turned 23 last month. I never thought i would have kids this young.. i mean i always thought it was a good age to have them.. but it didn't "fit" with my plans for study, marriage etc. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! I had been going to graduate from nursing, me and mike were gonna get married (would have been 19th feb this year) get a good job, work for a year, then maybe think about trying to have a baby. I thought I'd be 25 when i had my first.

now i'm 23, expecting my second, (and last!) not married.. though we call each other our husband/wife, still dragging out the nursing training and man do i feel old.   still - i have always been a firm beleiver of the idea that everything happens the way it does for a reason. (how do i get all that out of answering a question about age?!)

Just turned 24. I was 21 when I got pregnant with Maya, and I was the youngest person at my antenatal classes, which freaked me out coz I didn't feel that young. And I'm still the youngest mum at Playcentre but the other mum's are really down to earth. I am in kind of a different league tho, they're all married with the 2.5 kids and the mortgage, and when I started there I was this 22 year old unemployed single Mum.
I never pictured that this is where I would be at this stage in my life, Mum was 27 when I was born and I thought that is a good age to start having kids, but fate (and dodgy contraceptive use had other plans. But I am pleased with how things turned out, and even tho it's been really tough, I think having Maya has been the making of me as a person, and I have opened a lot of different doors careerwise too just from the sheer instinct to get out there and provide for my child.

I'm 27! Looking at that as I typed, it seems old, but i still feel the same as I did when i was 16!!!! In fact, when i found out i was pregnant i was soooooo scared of telling my mum. I thought she'd be angry.....i was 25, and married....yet was still scared mum would tell me off for "getting myself into trouble"...she didn't in case you were wondering, she was over the moon!

I know what you mean Emma, being a young single mum does make you stronger and more focused. I guess it's cause there's noone else to do it for you! I'd just turned 20 the month before I found out I was pregnant with Kiya... and I found out at 18-20 weeks! I wouldn't change things though... I've grown so much as a person since becoming a mum.

Lizzle, I was 19 when Willie and i got together, Mona was just turned 7, but I had been looking after her since way before then coz I know their family really well. Now she lives with her aunty and I have her on weekends, coz the schooling up in Helensville is better for her, smaller classes and all. It was a huge thing tho, I did parenting classes and the works coz at 19 you really don't have a clue! I just hope one day she grows out of being a sullen teenager and starts liking me again

me too - but that's cos she was a bit of a control freak, and made me do everything around the house. argh! after i moved out and she realised how much i used to help her, and how naughty my little sis was (mum never beleived me.. it was always my fault) it was all good.

It is pretty scary to think of though.. especially for girls, I really hate to think of Paris getting to that age and hating me - i hope i can be one of those good mums that says and does the right thing without being the "i want to be your friend" kinda mum. but only time will tell, hey, i bet in 11 years time, nothing i do will be right.

I have a 14 yr old and she hates me  I am the uncoolest person she knows and I am always "making life harder" for her. Hehehehe as if. Anyway I am assured they grow out of it but is really hard for us mums who have given them our everything. We are off to a parenting teens course soon too. Hopefully that will help us out. I am sure your little angels will appreciate you all................I live in hope. heheheheh

you'll be right tabs! your daughter will definitely love yu when she's over it. shows how dedicated you are to her by going on the parenting courses.

i only just got over my 'i hate mum' thing when i moved out of home. i was alright (as far as teens go) for most of my teenage years, but by the time i finished school i was most definitely ready to leave home!
moved to otago to get as far away as i could and by second year all i wanted to do was go home!

Posted By: mum2paris

lol.. does it sound scary that we have started xmas shopping for the new baby and it isn't even here.. already i have a fisher-price ball blast sitting up in our wardrobe.. come on, toyworld, on sale.. had to get it! decided to get all shopping out of the way, cos by xmas i have no idea what finances will be like. Paris's birthday isn't till august, and all her pressies are in my wardrobe too.. it's like a toy shop in there!

for Paris's 1st birthday.. we got stuff that we can add to as she grows.. some mega blocks, some fisherprice little people, etc.. then at xmas we got a couple more things to add to each set.. that sorta stuff they can grow with at different stages.

For Alyssa's first birthday, finances were really stretched, but i wanted to get her something she could keep. So we got her some name poetry, framed it and put it on her wall. I think we will do the same for Jayde to. But that might be a bit girly for Jake.

Also,is it just xander or do toy companies expect kids to work out how things work right away???? i mean when he was 6 mnths old (1st xmas)we got him a leap frog piano thing which stated 6mnths+ and hes now 22 mnths old and is purposly making it go rather than by accident.he also got a trike(20 buk warehouse one)and a ride-on come scooter which both stated from 18mnths plus,he still doesnt know how to use his legs to move it foward.hes not slow by any means developmentaly.I just think its kinda stupid.Maybe the toy companies are just sayin the age thing to get u to spend the cash??

I guess they just mean it is safe for kids that age. I mean i have some rattles that we bought for jake - it says safe from newborn but he's only just started picking them up and shaking them about. Before that he would hold on and shake them, but nowit's with purpose. I guess everykids different though.

Paris figured out the peekablocks giraffe pretty quickly - cos she got results - just put something in the top and it makes a noise.. but then she learnt how to open the flap at the bottom and just push the botton instead.. lazy butt! but she's the same with her ride on.. mum got her one of those motorbike ride ons.. she only just now has mastered it - waddling around the house on it constantly now.. only thing is, she's far too tall for it now, so she still can't use it properly. her knees are nearly at her chin!

we've got one of those " messy mats" for paris.. just a tablecloth that mum got for xmas time - but it is plastic and fabric, and it's great - she gets it out of the drawer at meal times and unfold it on the floor to put her talbe and chairs on, and she also plays with the playdough on it too.. is pretty good and won't take it off the mat.

Best we try our best for a girl, don't think I could handle having a boy full time!!! Maybe if we did I could give him away for a couple of years till he settles down!!! (could give hubby away for awhile too! lol)

Might have to get myself a copy of that book!!

I wonder if they have one on settling Hubbys down too?

Mine is still mad about motorbikes & throwing them through the air!! with him still attached lol!

My Hubby whole family wants a boy (Very traditional family, and my hubby is the oldest son). My hubby said that "he doesn’t care as long as the baby is healthy....but if he had choice he would like a boy"....why??? so that he can play soccer with him. My hubby and brother in law is soccer crazy.

I can just imagine my future now.....so you see I want a daughter.

Some thing tells me I am going to have a boy!!! So might need names soon.....

There are (so far):

10 mums aged 21 - 25,
8 mums aged 26 - 30,
3 mums aged 31 - 35,
1 mum aged 36 - 40.

The youngest mum here is Teenmummy, who is 20 at Halloween.

Gsmum, my first was born when I was twenty, the last three years ago. Never did I envisage having five children, seven pregnancies (two miscarried) all up, and parenting so late (only two were planned lol). I always wanted to be a parent in my twenties, so then in my forties they would have left home. Well my life has basically started in my forties aright, I turn 39 in November, next year start studies for a Certificate in Social Services etc, yet still parenting, single at that, yet no matter what am still moving forward.

My husband and i decided to have a baby when i turned 32, he has two from a previous marriage and wanted to wait and wait hehehe i'm still not sure why ......never mind - it took me 3 years to fall pregnant, i was on depo for several years and i think that had a lot to do with it, after about 2 and 1/2 yrs of trying with no luck we decided to plan our wedding instead (we had been living togeather for 6 years), we had gone to a fertility clinic and began the long process of tests etc.......about 6 mths into the wedding plans we found out we were pregnant and ended up planing not only the wedding but the birth of our baby as well. We recently had decided to stop at just the one, however nature has had other ideas and we are expecting our second child in january 2006.

Hey, Aimee - there's always white, yellow and green! Plus if you talk to most of the mums here with daughters you will find out that they have dressed them in blue at some stage.

I found the problem with all the cute newborn stuff was that it came in PINK and BLUE, and thats all. the larger kids clothes had a bit more range, but newborn was very limited....oh yeah, there was white...boring.

I don't know what we are having wither. We have lots of white stuff, lol Yellows too but to tell you the truth my favourite colour is blue and so I have bought some blue stuff too. I am not really a fan of pink and I think it doesn't reeally matter anyway does it??

I swore i would never dress my daughter in pink - then all these people bought pink when she was born, and it was so cute and she looked great in it and i couldn't let it go to waste, enough said....

Hey Cindy, you haven't been on here in ages? hows things with you?

We are actually quite sorted for clothes as my sister had twin boys recently so we get all their clothes when they outgrow them! All white and blue stuff, but I am quite happy to dress the baby in blue if its a girl. Lucky she had boys because I dont think I could have dressed a little boy in pink!!

yep that's like us, before we had paris both of my sisters had just had baby boys about 8 months before, so until she was born, we mainly only had blue and white and green stuff. i think the only pink thing i brought was a little fluffy pair of pumpkin patch booties.. everyone else got the pink stuff for us. still now, if i buy something, i will usually look for purple first.

that's what sucks about pink... the only colour that goes with pink is pink. (or purple or white... but still very girlie!)

i swore i wouldn't have a pink kid, but once you start with some pink clothes you end up with more to match. downward spiral!!!

half the time with girls unless they are dressed in pink, they get called a boy. irritating I imagine for girl's mummies.
