When B2 is born, jake will be 15months old, and will have moved to a new country, and be away from his dad. I'm a little worried about him and the new baby especialy. Do any of you mums with bubba close together have any tips? I'm not sure exactly what he'll be capable of understanding at that point anyway. I was planning for him and the baby to e4xchange a present. But besides that, no other real idea about how to cope.

We had no trouble but 20month difference is a little different to 15. I dont think you will have any trouble with Jelousy as they dont (well Alyssa didnt anyway)get like that till bang on their 2nd birthday its like something kicks in. Re the present thing. Jayde gave ALyssa a few gifts which she was really stoked about. I think it will be more hard on you than on Jake as he wont be quite as independant so youll have two babies and may start to expect more from him (speaking from my own experience). Its good to have stuff set up for the older one to do like play doh, or blocks dvd, book to read etc, while you feed.

yep, they always want food or toys or something while you are feeding, also make sure all thing that you don't want gotten into are well away otherwise, to get your attention, he will go straight for them. our phone is a favourite! also buttons on the tv, or the remote. anything paris can get her hands on.

we gave paris a pressie from Ayja, and got paris to choose a pressie for ayja (we chose what we wanted then gave her a few options). a week before ayja was born mike had brought paris a new dolls house, and that was great, cos it was something new to keep her occupied during those first few days at home when everything was up in the air. so maybe some new toys or something around that time would be helpful for keeping jake busy too.

i think maria's right, you do expect more and have less patience.. where i used to guide paris more, sometimes i just don't have time, or am too busy trying other things.

jealousy shouldn't be too much of a prob at 15 months. put yep, 2 yrs old seems to be the magic number.. the other day paris practically body-slammed ayja. and she donks her on the head constantly with her little dolss.. it's weird to feel so infuriated at one child and so sorry for another at the same time.

there's a good book we got, called hello peanut. it's not quite as long and complicated as most of the books out there. and it's great, it just related to mummy's tummy getting bigger "how big is the baby? as big as a dot, a peanut, a door mouse, an elephant... " then it just shows mummy and daddy at the hospital. we read that over and over, and would just tell paris each time, "when mummy has the baby, aunty will look after you, then daddy can bring you to see us at the hospital and you can give baby cuddles" we weren't sure how much she understood, but as time went on i think she got used to the idea.

only other thing i can think of is invest in a good buggy. even once you get too big and preggers.. if Jake is walking by then, or soon after baby is born.. he WILL run away when you least expect it. - Paris now always sits in a trolley in shops, or is in her buggy. she just can't be trusted.

i never knew how much a child could change in subtle ways. it sure makes life interesting.

jake tries to get away whenever possible now. today he threw himself into the arms of the security man at the bank. I always frowned on leashes, but think I might get one. I found a fanatstic bike that we are getting jake for his birthday. It has a circular thing around the seat, so they can't fall out - just like a little tricyucle, but alkso has pedals and a footrest if they can't use the pedals. but the best part is that it has an adjustable handle that the parent can push the kid with and steer. hopefully that will keep him under control.

as for new toys, xmas is just before B2 is due, so he should get lots of nice stuff. His nana just bought him a fireengine pedal car. the horn now work - but in only one volume.....LOUD! Bad bad nana. Actually silly nana as we are going to be living with her for the indefinite future!!

thanks for the tips ladies.

LOL Lizzle, I had a leash for Maya when we went to London last year and it was a lifesaver! I always hated the idea too, but she would only sit in the buggy for so long before she wanted to get out, and it was good to be able to let her walk with us without worrying about her getting run over or lost. And as an added bonus - we used the leash to tie her 'fuzzy bubba' onto the pram when she was sleeping so that she could cuddle her doll but not drop it over the side.

we have invested in a leash too, just one that goes on her wrist, but haven't actually had to use it yet, we just do the buggy thing and she's usually pretty happy. but next time i'm putting the toddler seat into the buggy i may use it cos last time i did that, i was zipping the seat in and she was standing beside me, and the next minute she had runn off down the street. i had to run after her. and she didi that 2 more times while i was trying to get this damn seat zipped in.. usually takes 2 seconds, this time it took what seemed like an eternity! lol you could see the look in her eyes, she looked downt he road, and looked at me.. and i was like "don't even think about it.." and she was off.
then she has the nerve to say "funneee !!!" each time i picked her up.

lol. if you do get a new one.. phil and teds E2 are great. we are a bit the same with people wanting to first know where the baby is "you've had your baby... oh, where is it?" then they're always like "wow, what a great idea, that's so kewl!" when we went to get Paris's Menz-b immunisation we had half the nursing staff looking at it, was kinda weird.

the one my mother-in-law got for us was the first version of it that came out in 2003, so the new version that came out last year has a few adjustments that make life easier (like a clip in toddler seat, not one that zips in) but other than that not much else has changed, i love it. it feels like i am pushing nothing. yay!

lol just imagine what people over there would say if you went back with a buggy like that.

I just got a harness for Ella today... now that she is walking she doesnt like to stay sitting in her stroller for long if we are standing around in a shop. Took her a good 10 minutes to realise she couldnt take off and I was giving her lots of praise for walking with me and not pulling on the lead all the time.

As for toddler seats, I can get one for my Bertini Shuttle, its a 4 wheeled pushchair and has a toddler seat that clips on to the front. I saw them for sale just today, in Farmers and I know Baby City has them too.

Farmers are full of it, they told me the same thing, but I bought a Babylove from the Baby Factory and they have the toddler seat to go with it. Aparantly the kiddee boards that clip on the back are the latest craze, but they would be no good with a small toddler, I don't think I would even trust Maya in one now.
But Steelcraft don't do a toddler seat for any of their prams. Pedigree do (but theirs require a 4th wheel conversion) and Mountain Buggy have one model which will take a baby seat, otherwise there's all teh Bertini line (a bit more expensive but you can get all the added extras) or the Baby Love, or the Phil and Teds.

re the toddler coping with the baby - my boy 20 months has coped really well, better than i thought. i know he is a bit older than jake will be but i am sure he will surprise you. we didnt do the present exchange but his dad did buy him a present for the hell of it. the first meeting didnt go well, but was due more to gabriel being tired and having had to be shipped to nana's and aunties places for 3 nights in a row before bub was even born. now he is concerned when he cries and very helpful. i did make sure that i talked about the bubba with him before it was born.. you know stuff like rubbing my belly and saying this is where the bubba is, can you see him move, and this is where the bubba will sleep, and when playing - watch out for the bubba, dont squash my tummy. not sure if it helped but i felt i was preparing gabriel.

yeah, we talk about the "get off mum's tummy" stuff quite a bit. Also it's really really hot and Jake has a thing about nipples. when your not looking, he will grab and twist. and if you cover them with your hand, he'll use one hand to remopve your hand, and the other to grab and twist.....ouch

paris just copies with her dollies.
before Ayja was born, I'm sure Paris thought the baby waS in my belybutton ring.. cos i'd ask her where the baby was and she'd always put her finger on my bellyring.

Before Jake was born, my sister told hre four year old "auntie is having a baby, it'll be your cousin and you can play togethr", well poor Sam was most disappointed when a fully formed exciting child didn't come out, and all he got was Jake who would lie, and dribble and cry. He kept saying "why's he so small, why did he keep crying, what's wrog with him" thern he got bored and went to ride his bike. I'm sure Jake wil be a tad more interesting for him now.

We were talking to Angie about babies the other day - She has a pretend one in her stomach as you do, and no I'm not pregnant. Anyway, she told me that when she was born she was wearing baby clothes and a pink baby hat...

I remember there was a little downs girl at my high school, who told everyone she was pregnant to Cliff Richard but she was 16 which is too young to have a baby, so she'll be pregnant until shes 22. then its okay. she was sooooo cute!!!

LOL I was telling Maya yesterday about when she was born, and how the midwife put her on Mama's tummy and I cuddled her, and she said "tiny Maya crying Mama, feed me Mama's boobies!" I guess it is actually getting thru to her somewhere in her head!
