Well I may as well put my name to this thread now. On the boob front yip I think it definately has to do with the individual. With my first (who was also born in March 2006) they didn't really seem to grow much at all. I'm dreading it with this one as they seem to be getting firmer already!!

Good morning everyone, I had a real bad nights sleep last night and I'm sure its nothing compared to what is going to come. My boobs are getting sooooo sore. I could feel stuff running through them last night, it drove me nuts. I kept turning from my back to my side to my front to get comfortable. This is going to be nothing compared to a kicking baby in my stomach or going to the toilet 10 times a night. What we have to look forward to girls.
Also wondering if you other March 2008 mums can feel where your baby is in your tummy. I don't know if I'm real sensitive, but I reckon whenever the baby is developing I feel a twang sort of pain where it is. I know I ovulated on the right side and thats where I feel the pain.
It's all so exciting all these changes. We've got so much more to look forward too or not to look forward too!!!
Having a baby is such an exciting experience and it's all I seem to be thinking about and even dreaming about

Replying to EmmaO, We can't wait to find out if we are having a boy or a girl. We are both hoping for a boy, but of course it doesn't really matter, as long as our little one is healthy. When we went on our shopping spree we bought only boys clothes (i think they are the cutest). They said we could exchange them if we have a girl. I hope that is the case!!! My husband has 3 brothers and no sisters, so it looks like the odds are that we are having a boy. Fingers crossed. I'm having a hard enough time trying not to tell people I am pregnant, so I am pretty confident there is no way that I could possibly keep the sex of our baby a secret, although I think that is a great way to go. I had some friends who found out if it was a boy or girl, but didn't tell anyone else, it was a nice surprise for all of us. I have also got a friend due in early September and they have had a few scans and they still haven't been able to confirm if they are having a boy or girl, so they are thinking it is a girl. - Hopefully they are right, I could'nt handle that and neither could my husband, so we are really hopeful our baby will have its legs wide open for our scan!!!
At what stage do you get the scan to tell you if you are having a boy or a girl? You have to excuse me, this is my first baby and I know nothing!!!
|
Posted By: ElfsMum
Date Posted: 08 July 2007 at 9:20am
they can start to tell for sure at about 18 weeks...but very often they cant tell... so dont be disappointed..though i can talk..i will be if we cant find out..though DH doesnt want to know and I cant keep secrets ...lol...so most people try to find out at 18-20 abnormality scan
If you had CVS or an amnio (Chronic villius sampling) for genetic tests on the baby that is the only way to know for definite as it is a DNA test) ...we want a boy too but will be perfectly happy with a girl..esp after the miscarriage...
My friends husband has only boys for 100 years in his family and he has two girls now...lol:)

I'm the same - tired, bigger boobs and lots of aches. I had a crampy tummy for a while, but it seems to have passed.
I get my second set of blood results back on Tuesday so hoping that my hcg levels have increased.

welcome counting down.... :) pesky you are lucky to get two tests...most people it seems in nz dont get too....not like in america where everyone does:) i got one test but only because of the miscarriage thing.. but then i did get an early scan so that helped a little:) good luck for the doubling!
for me the doc just said ocngrats and that was it...lol..the second time (after the m/c) the doc gave me a blood test to measure hcg and ordered early scan...midwife sent me for bloods at 8 weeks..but people seem to be getting them earlier than that mostly..

Congrats countingdown and welcome!.
Your first trip to see the doctors is basically setting you up for bloods to check your hormone levels and sometimes they send you for a scan (depends on doctor, how far along you think you are) . Here in Gisborne thats it for the doctor you then ring a midwife asap and get on her books, they are sooo over busy here that if you leave it past 6 weeks you are stressed finding one free.
Its different across the country thouhg, where are you?

I was out of town for a couple of weeks, and got a blood test to check if I was pregnant. So now my GP has sent me for my 1st set of antenatal bloods.. bit of a bonus.
My GP was lovely and talked about LMCs, and maternal tests, and gave me a heap of leaflets.
I haven't decided what to do midwife/obstetrician/hospital-wise yet. I want to ask friends but they'll get suspicious. Is there a shortage of midwives in Auckland? Anyone know any good ones in eastern bays or central?

Hi guys,
Countingdown-do you know what date your due date is?
When I went to the doctor I had a home pregnancy test that I had taken that morning with a really faint line, I said I didn't know if I was pregnant or not. He thought it was a positive so he did all the bloods there and then. I then went back two days later after I had found out I was pregnant for a second blood test to ensure that my hcg levels were continuing to rise. The doctor said so do you believe me that your pregnant now. I have another blood test scheduled for 8 weeks and my first scan at 10 weeks for a test for down syndrome, so I guess thats what my doctors organised for me.
I need to get onto a midwife, but I have the same problem as one of the other girls - one of my friends has a really good midwife that shes used and I would like to use her. I have to wait till we tell our friends, so I can ask.
Exciting news - my husband and I told my parents this afternoon that they are going to be grandparents for the first time. We really should of had a video camera. I took the bag of baby clothes that I bought yesterday and said to them I wanted to show them what I had bought on my shopping spree yesterday. After a couple of attempts to get dad to stay in the room (he was wandering off taking calls and work and stuff) I think he wasn't interested in looking at what I had bought, thinking it was just something for me. Anyway, when they were both gathered round I pulled out the baby clothes and said, I thought I had better go and buy some baby clothes since you are going to be grandparents. They were seriously stunned. Their jaws dropped and they just starred at me for what was about as long a minute, then dad finally put his arms out to give me a hug and then congratulated my husband and me. It was the funniest thing, like I said we should of had a video camera.
It is one more of the exciting things that we get to experience as mothers to be. My husband really enjoyed telling them as well, we got the best reaction.
We'll be telling his parents in the next couple of weeks, just have to wait for a family lunch to announce it.
Let me know your parents responses and how you told them - it really is priceless!!!

Hoew exciting telling your parents:) anywya i better get back over to feb.... have great pregnancies you guys...here's to the happy healthy boys (or girls) that we want:)

I can't wait to tell our parents, but we think we'll tell them at 8 weeks. Don't ask me why that seems to be the magic number though!
According to the due date calculator I'm due March 7th, but I am about to make an appointment to see a doctor this afternoon so maybe he will give me a better idea.
I am such a worrier, there is a part of me that doesn't want to get a blood test just in case it shows that the hcg levels aren't what they should be etc. I need to think positive!

Pesky I would seriously consider going with a midwife, mine last time was awesome and I've got her again , they are on hand 24/7 and they have sooo much experience with birthing, babies etc and especially after the birth, they help with breastfeeding etc that doctors just don't have, well thats my opinion anyway!

Hi, I'm back from the doctor. I have to go back tomorrow to have a blood test (Do I get the results the same day?) and she gave me a referral for a dating scan which I thought was quite unusual since I know the date of my last period and the 3 possible dates of conception(it became a bit of a military exercise!)
Oh well, not complaining. Maybe it was because I asked her so many inane questions about miscarriage statistics, so she wants me to be slightly reassured?
Hope you're all well

Congrats LillyandElla!
Kawww your ticker looks cool!
Countingdown we're telling family at the 8 week mark too. Seems to be a good compromise.
Got my blood tests back and they didn't do a HCG test this time. Oh well, spose you have to have faith that everything's going well. Felt a little nauseous this morning, so taking that as a good sign.
Have decided to go public for my LMC(s). A friend is, and she said it's similar to private in that you have a pool of obstetricians and midwives. Will see how my first appointment goes and let you know!

Congratulations and welcome, LillyandElla and Countingdown!!
Great to see some more expectant mummy's on here.
We seem to be ahead of everyone and we have told all of our friends and family already. The only people that we haven't told are my work but we are only newish to Wellington so most of our friends etc are in Nelson.
Our parents knew we were trying but were still really excited, it's great telling everyone.
We have left a message with one group of midwives and are hoping that it will be as easy as that. Just have to wait for their call.
I had my blood test done a week ago and I haven't heard about any results. I guess it just means that they were good?!

KimmyH, I had my bloods done at 4.5 weeks and was told that they'll only call if there's a problem. I met with my midwife at 9 weeks and she called and got them faxed to her and she went through them with me. Yours will probably be the same once you find one. If it does bother you then you can always call your doctor just to confirm that they were fine. Congratulations and good luck for your pregnancy

Can you explain your score to me Emma? I gave blood today at the Dr's, they told me that they would only ring if there was a problem. I live in West Harbour, any recommendations for midwives in my area? I emailed Mama Maternity Services today in the hope they will be able to provide a list.... dreading the morning sickness. Anyone else as nervous as I am?

Hi nicci, you hCG levels should double 48-72 hrs, they check it more often if you have had mc or problems previously. Mine is taken weekly so last week it was 140 and this week over 4000, next week should be between 25,000 and 40,000 according to mw. From then they stop testing as it levels off I think.
Don't worry if they haven't rung you but if I was you I'd ring and ask for your levels if you have it on your mind but try no to worry i'm sure you will be fine and have abundant hCG

Thanks Emma. Now I understand what all the fuss was about, you levels have increased dramatically, congratulations!! My blood test results should be due back at the dr's today, they will only ring if there is a problem but I'm tempted to drop in on my way home from work and ask for my results anyway ....

Congrats to all the newcomers.
Had my midwife appointment on Wednesday not a lot to report just went through the normal, checked my blood pressure (which she said was just lovely), stood on those lovely scales (3kg lighter this time around at the same stage as #1). Seen I had a c-section last time around I have to get a second opinion from a specialist at 20 weeks. I have no problem having to have another one if that is the case but I will definately be opting for an epidural thats for sure.
Got my scan form and that's all booked for 20th August. Hope that time goes fast.

Hi Everyone
I am new here, my dh and I are expecting our first baby on the 4th of March.
We are going to find out what we are having, even though before I got pregnant I swore I wouldn't lol, but now its hard enough waiting until 20 weeks, I wouldn't make it to delivery. We are hoping for a boy but we don't really care as long as the baby is healthy. I haven't told my parents yet I think I will wait until 12 weeks, just because I don't want to have to untell everyone so to speak.
Quick question.
I had blood tests done at 5 weeks, and 5weeks 3 days and the hcg was 3648, and then 7836. Is this ok, or should it be higher? The problem is I don't feel pregnant, my boobs have increased in size pretty quickly, I have nearly outgrown my bras which are DD to begin with lol, they are also slighty tender and are getting alot firmer, and I am hungry a lot and my jeans are uncomfortable already when I sit, but that is it, I have no morning sickness or anything and I am a worrier, so really hoping this little bean sticks around.
My first mw appointment is on the 10th of August so at 10wks 3 days. I really hope the time goes quickly, I cant wait for the first scan though I think I will relax a lot more.
Congratulations everybody and take care

Welcome and congrats solgirl and Marchbean ( love the name!!) your hCG scores are awesome, very healthy, so don't worry at all, they should double every 48-72 hours and yours did
Can't wait for that scan date as well, hoping my mw will throw me a bone and let me have one earlier at 8 weeks so I can see a little heart... no chance though ,I need patience!!!

Hi there Marchbean with my first I never felt pregnant at all, didn't experience anything apart from the fact that AF didn't turn up. So I wouldn't say it is anything to worry about all pregnancies are so different.

I'm going to tentatively join this thread...
I'm in my third pregnancy, but lost my last one at 7 weeks, so a bit nervous about this time around. Tentative EDD somewhere between March 14th and 21st.
I have one daughter already, who's a delight, and will be interested to see how I manage the transition from one to two.

Hi Kiwiwonder, we are in exactly the same boat, I lost my last baby at 8 weeks on the 5th May. Its hard to relax into this pregnancy and we have told no one so its like I am not even pregnant yet!! ( apart from the sickness, tiredness etc!!)
I also have a toddler, who is awesome but keeps me up!!
Fingers and toes crossed for us both this time, its hard to trust our bodies but positive thinking is the way forward
