It here too (stratford) Missed us by meters. We were sitting in the lounge and it got louder and louder I thought the roof was going to blow right off (we have a tile roof and I swear they have come loose or off). Anyhow stood in the middle of the house with kids. It was over and we thought phew alls ok... went outside and our outside furniture were in the trees at the side of the house. (this was lucky as if it had blown the other way it would of come thru the french doors which Josh was standing at for a breif moment till we told him to get away from them - typical 14 yr old boy too interested whats going on to think 'safety')
Anyway gt all the stuff and put in the shed - thats the end?? Nope heard the fire turck outside our house, went out front and a huge branch off our tree had broken off and across the road one of the trees lining the road has totally up rooted. 2 houses up their roof needed nailing back on. So we really did come to a hairs breath of not having a roof ourselves or borken glass all over the place - not to mention a damaged son if he was still there.
The worst news is they say there might be another one before midnight.

Spudling we talked over dinner tonight after it happened and told the kids what to do if it happens again (we are all going to jump under the table) hopefully it won't come to that though. It was a good opportunity to talk to the kids in case of an emergancy what would you do? Josh was like - well not stand in front of the french doors...wise choice.

well done to Deb's DH, I hope you guys are still asleep in your household.
Well all still & quite outside today I can even see some blus sky, so fingers crossed we won't be seeing any more tornados any time soon again. The helicopers are out in force this morning though, we live just by the hospital so they take off and land only about 100 meters from home and they've been going since about 7am
I couldn't sleep last night, every noise I heard I was all ready to jump out of bed and grab the kids....of course the kids and DH slept soundly all night.
Going to pop down to letterbox now and get the newspaper, should be interesting reading for a change

Hi guys

Well the clean up has began. There was a truck, chipper and chainsawer cross the road getting rid of the tree that up rooted last night... A friend thought her roof and chimney had blownoff but infact it was someone elses roof from two streets away that had landed on their roof - scary...
I looked out the back where the deck is where the garden furniture had blown off and I can't believe that the hose which is on the deck never moved, nor did Josh soccer goal which is light as and was in the garden.. strange as teh garden furniture wasn't that light.

Debs glad hubby got home ok.

Spudling I was supprised I actually slept ok.

I was thinking yesterday to go to Np - I have to get food and a couple of ppl's bday presents. Don't know if its a wise thing to travel - what do you think Taranaki ppl????(i really do know the answer but I do need to get these things)

We've been out and about this morning and it is pretty quite in town today, I think most people have decided to stay inside. I have to pop back out again soon but not worried, the weather is pretty calm out there now so am guessing that the tornado weather has passed us by...well fingers crossed it has anyhow.

Great to read that everyone is OK and I agree, a get together for strong coffee sounds a great idea to me

ha ha, didn't sound sh*tty at all Ann, you are quite correct, NP wasn't even the hardest hit, Oakura seems to have got the brunt of them.
Ann, where do you live hon? I'm in NP but born & bred in Managmingi, half hour inland from Eltham...

New Plymouth people, cool??? whose been telling you those lies LOL

in all seriousness though I am glad that no one got killed. I feel for Oakura, alot of ppl are without a home. That camping ground seemed to get the worst - oh the person whose top storey blew off - how awful is that, imagine the personal things they would of lost as well.

and i agree with spudling 'Busymum' you really need to come to Taranaki and have a look around. its so lovely here - probably in summer though.

Must admit the best part of taranaki is the mountain smack bang in the middle - every town in the naki you see it and it welcomes you home when you have been away. Its a beautiful mountain and whne I can get on the other computer I'll post a pic here....
