Hey all sorry I havent been around here in a while.. but it started on monday morning, jamie(dh) decided to pull a sicky and when he rung at 8am he told them that I was having contractions! well he hung up and came back to bed... 8.10am and I have a contraction, the show and My waters break(hind waters aparently), My next 4 contractions were 5 mins apart, then 10 mins, back to 5 mins.. then 3 mins... then 1 mins apart lasting 60seconds, with every 3th or 4th contraction being a double one! the midwife turned up at 10am and checked me... 8cm dialated! so of to the hospital, she called chch womens.. cant go there because of a BOMB SCARE!! so we ended up going to st georges! I went straight to the labour room where I was allowed the gas and at 11.47am, monday 15th August 2005 Bailey Michael Watton Joined us He weighed excatly 7lbs and was 50cm(19.6inches) long with a head cir. of 34cm.
Mother and baby are doing fine. (well apart from me being tired that is) But Jamie(husband) is off work for another week and has been such a help its been great Hes been a god send anyway Baileys waking so needs feeding.
Take Care

Jamie is going ok... he started back at work yesterday! so Im going solo!!! I too am getting up during the night and 'trying' not to wake him as I know he needs his sleep for work. How ever at 5.00am this morning I had, had enough as Bailey woke at 1am and would'nt go back to sleep.. or everytime I tryed to put hime in his cot he would wake and scream! So I put him in his cot at 4.50am and all was well.. untill 5am when He woke and started to scream the house down!! Jamie was nice enough to get him up for me and I had expressed milk a couple of days ago so he gave him that! (First time off the bottle and he had it no problem... It was however 60mls... he gulped it down and wanted more, so Jamie had to wake me) ... anyway Jamie has been good... ohh and as it turns out the midwife thinks I have a mild case of post natal depression!... Just what I need
Sorry for the ramble

I hope Bailey settles soon and gives mum and dad a bit of rest.

Well Bailey has been very naughty today, since 1am this morning he has had bout 3 hours sleep! most of the rest of that time he has done nothing but scream, feed and do pooy nappies Im so so so so tired right now! I had the midwife come over this morning and check him out, hes gone from 3180g on wednesday to 3340g today. she thinks the vomiting is from wind so suggested I get some stuff from the pharmacy (sorry cant remember whats its called)
She said to me thats its not Bailey shes worried about its me!!! She thinks Im getting/got a mild case of Post Natal Depression! but also thinks it could be just from lack of sleep! (ive done nothing but cry since he was born... I try to hide it from people but sometimes it gets the better of me!) Anyway she said for me to ring her next time I am feeling low.
will keep you all updated

post natal depression is defintely a worry Trish. I didn't have it with jake but I was really lucky in having a great mum who I was staying with, and a husbnad who was off work and could help me out. Talk to someone about it though, it could hepl, and it's really common, you'll probably find someone who had the same problem who can help you out. Having a baby is an ENORMOUS change and pretty freaky!!

Trish,do u have parents (urs or Jamies) close by (or a trusted freind) that u could ask to come sit with Bailey for an hour or so so u can get some rest?? U dont need to explain why (ie they dont need to no u MAY have PND).Express some milk in case Bailey gets hungry so u dont need to be woken.Just a thought anyhow.
My mum was up here till end of may and staying with us so i took advantage of situation and had a few rests if i was tired as my monkey had her windy troubles from around 10 or 11pm thru till 2-3am so I no how tiring it can get.I used to prop her over my shoulder and jumpo on here lmao till she finally went to sleep.Shes now sleeping from around 8:30-9pm thru till bout 3:30-4am then back down till 7:30am sumtimes even till 8:30-9am.

hes so cute and small!!!! i was just looking at my boys the other day and thinking they are real little boys now....where have my bubbas gone boohoo lol. As with the possible pnd make sure you do talk to someone because trying to hide how you feel stresses you even more. And what a great midwife - i didnt have that as i was in hosp with the boys for 8 1/2 mths and had so many diff midwives depending on who was on duty and just really wanted my midwife who unfortnatly was 1 1/2 hrs away. Anyway make sure you look after yourself and if you can do what becs said (xandersmum) and get someone to watch bailey for you while you have a rest you will be amazed at how much better you will feel.
Well take care now and dont forget to talk talk talk

lack of sleep compounds things... feeding probs and lack of sleep are what did me in with paris and i ended up with PND. support is great, no matter what, try and find a support group that you can go to to talk and share things with. It takes alot for people to understand where you are at unless they have been there themselves. hang in there, keep telling yourself that it will get better, because trust me, it does, little by little bit by bit, Ayja did the same thing as bailey does, scream feed and poo, for ages, and some days that's still all she does. PM me if you want someone to talk to anytime.. sometimes all you need is someone to listen.

Hey,Yeah Im doing ok, some days I feel like I just want to leave and then other days Im like how could I think that! Jamie(husband) is helping me out a wee bit which is good. Also getting out and about or having people coming over helps too.
Bailey on the other hand isnt doing any better!! some days Im lucky if he sleep 15 - 30 minutes at a time and then hes up for anywhere up to 5 hours!!! Hes got reflux/colic which isnt getting any better and nothing I give him seems to work He isnt vomitting as much but when he does he vomitts so much he dry reaches because there is nothing left in him.. Poor Thing.
Im thinking if the weather here in Chch eases up tomorrow Ill take him back to the doctors. Ill keep you posted

Do you use a sling/frontpack? I found our sling really good as Sophie wouldn't sleep if I put her in her cot. I think she found it much better to be upright. Also meant I had my hands free to get stuff done.
Keep working at it things will get better

The front pack is a life saver for me some days when Joey is really cranky too. I just put him in it and walk around doing the laundry, dishes etc. He falls asleep pretty quickly usually!

Just wondering if you are still breast feeding or formula.
When I was breast feeding my last one, he had really bad reflux and hardly slept. I put him on SMA Gold and boy what a different baby he was. If breast feeding, maybe try expressing and add something to thicken your milk, or put in the anti-reflux into it. The biggest problem is, Bailey is too hungry to sleep and probably too tired to drink. Try one bottle of formula and see how he goes. Its worth a try.
I know how you feel with this problem and the lack of time out and sleep is nerve racking. My last midwife, was a real breast is best person, even though she could see it was really bad on, not only my health, but my sons as well. He was loosing weight. I ended up, going behind her back and putting him on formula. I didnt tell her untill a couple of weeks later.
I will never let anyone put me, or my babys health in that situation again. If I feel this one isnt getting what she needs from me then, I will put her on formula too.
Good luck

Thanks every one, Yes I have a front pack and the last time I put him in it he just screamed
I am still Breastfeeding but only just, Ive had enough. I want to take him back to the doctors but its so cold and wet outside(3.0 degrees according to http://www.ccc.govt.nz/weatherdata/waterweb.htm), I dont really want to go out. (Its been snowing here in CHCH)
Hopefully the weather will ease up a bit later and Ill take him then.
Ive also been told from my friend that maybe I should try him on formula but I dont know, Id feel even more like I have failed
Ill let you know If I get to the doctors today

I totally agree with everything Roksana said. Your not a failure. Do try him on formula, it wont hurt him. Try a thick one though, so it has less chance of coming back up. I used SMA Gold because I was told it was the thickest one on the market.

Have you looked in Cranial Massage Therapy? Sounds like new age namby pamby but apparently it is worth the time effort and money.

check it out on the net, I have had many friends who have had kids with colic / reflux, a few sessions with a massage therapist and they have had new babies.
Good Luck.

http://www.wtp.co.nz/cranial_osteopathy.html
How do babies benefit from Cranial Osteopathy?
During birth the bones of a babies skull are compressed and will often overlap each other. Following the birth the bones will try to reform into their normal positions to allow the inner movement of the brain, the fluid and the containment membranes to take place. Commonly not all the positions are how the body would like it to be, and when this happens the body must now attempt to compensate for these malpositions. These compensations will often cause the baby to become unsettled in a variety of ways, as the babies body tries to come to terms with the problems that exist. Some of these problems may lead to colic, poor sleeping ability, poor feeding ability or just crying or unsettled.
