Sorry ladies, jsut need to have a bit of a rant - think those hormones must finally be kicking in!!

What is it about boys and their toys?! My hubby is off all afternoon riding motorbikes and tomorrow he is away all day racing his rally car and last night he was out playing canoe polo. Now that I think about it the night before he was out at the pub too! Now dont get me wrong its great that hes got lots of things to do, but what about me?! I get to sit at home and do all the housework, cooking etc and I dont get any toys! Unless the vaccuum cleaner is classed as one! He doesnt think twice about spending a couple of hundred $$ going racing tomorrow but when I want anything for the babys room its a big deal. I think his priorities will change once the babys here, but at the moment he doesnt understand why it needs a set of drawers and a new cot mattress!!

I think I'm just grumpy cos I'm bored and hes never here. I have a few friends here but we dont have the same kind of things to do that the boys do. All they ever want to do is go shopping - not so exciting in Dannevirke!! I know that in a few weeks I'm going to be very busy and I should appreciate this time. You know even if Daniel was at home I dont know what exactly it is that I would want to do. Argh!! Bl**dy hormones. Poor Daniel really, no wonder he doesnt want to be at home!!

Anyway, just needed to have a bit of a rant about it all.

Feel free to rant away, that's what we're all here for

We went to visit my cousin and his wife yesterday and they have a 3 year old and she is 33 weeks with #2 My cousine announced that he was going drinking because he only had 7 more weeks of freedom. His wife told him he was about 3 years too late for that...

I know what you mean about the boredom tho. Even tho we live in Auckland, I remember it being too hot and being too lazy to go anywhere, I just vegetated at home. I got soooo sick of kids cartoons!

i know what you mean. after jake was born, lweis used to go out drinking with his friends. we wer only in the country for a short time so he wanted to spend time with them, but i would've thought he would've wanted to spend time with his new son too!!!
Actually as I say this, he is getting ready to go out. I don't mind too much as I like the alone time though. but when i wasn't working it drove me crazy

Willie came to visit on the day Maya was born (he was at worl during the birth ) but the day after got too drunk and didn't come up. The day before we went home he came up with a hangover and stinking of beer and I wouldn't let him touch Maya. he couldn't understand why - I didn't want her getting drunk on the fumes! Guys just have no idea sometimes...

ha. mike wanted to have celebratory drinks at our place while i was in hospital after having ayja - i told him no way... if i have to sit up there at night all bored and alone, then he could sit at home and do the same lolol

argh Aimee, hopefully Daniel will get his priorities straight soon enough. all mike used to do was spend thousands on subs and stuff for his car. now every time we go out PAris or Ayja ends up with something... his priorities have gone completely to his girls.. a little overboard sometimes i think but better than subs and alloys, thats for sure!

he does get to go out every saturday night during pseedway season though to help crew for his dad. and every few weekends he goes out on a sunday arvo to play pool, but mostly we do stuff together.

Aimee I think all men are the same!
My hubby use to play soccer every Sat...it takes 1/2 hour to get there and 90 min of soccer and yet he use to be home after 5-6 hours..."oh you know babe how it is, I had to drop off my mates and they insisted on having some beer after the game"......Ummmmhhhhuuu

And now that the soccer season is over and we have our own house..It is party at our house....mind you I am there but don’t enjoy the "heeeeee hhhhaaaaa heeeeee" some how after a few beers every thing is funny to them......

I had a fight with him on Sunday and told him that if he was drunk and unable to take me the hospital when I go to labour...I will divorce him!!!! So he said I promise babe...I will quit drinking 2 weeks before you are due...oh thanks allot!!!! How nice of him.....arrrggg

I sure hope he gets his priorities straight soon too!

Ahhhh I feel better after my rant!!!!

i remember my mum telling me about when my brother was born. My stepdad had a really boozey night at the pub & when he got home my mum went off her nut at him saying "just because you've come home drunk, tonight will be the night!!", sure enough 10 minutes later her labour started. My mum has always had really short labours so she had to send my stepdad to have a puke in hope that it would get rid of some of the alcohol 2 hours after that I got a new brother

When I went into labour with Maya, Willie went to work and left me at home with no car. Then later that night before I went to the hospital I got into bed to try and rest and he got up and said "you're keeping me awake with all that noise" and went and slept in the spare room! I rang my mate and she came to pick me up to go to the hospital as planned, and Willie complained because I asked him to help put the carseat and the bags in the car.
Hello, I was in labour with HIS child! Grrrr!

My hubby is not bad in that dept. He helps me loads at home, he even cleaned both the bathroom/toilets last week and told me he will do it this week (Friday) so that I dont do any thing on Sat..(baby shower). He washes the dishes and takes the washing out/in.

Thank God...!

aw so sweet. once Paris was older we would alternate sleep in mornings on weekends.. mike would have saturday and i would have sunday. was soooo nice. now i put ayja back down after her feed at 6 and he still takes paris for the morning, usually i wake up with ayja and find the house empty and mike and paris are off at the park, or something neat like that. he does so much..   he's out tonight with his mates... but hey i have research to do (as you can see, i am highly engrossed in it .. lol) and in a weeks time he will have both kids to contend with every night for 2 weeks as i will be on placement at the maternity ward from 2pm till midnight.

Willie was pretty useless when I was preg with Maya, part of the reason I am so reluctant to have another baby, but he had other things going on at the same time, his dad died and he got laid off from work so he was pretty stressed.

But he has been great lately. He takes Maya for a walk every Sunday morning to the markets so I can sleep in, and buys her fresh fish and cooks it (coz I refuse to - I hate fish!), and lately we have started going for family walks each night when he comes home from work.

He's promised to be more involved next time round, but I'm still not sure that there will be a 'next time'. I was really keen for a while, but now I think I'm changing my mind...

Yes I know I am getting very excited about getting the baby room set up.

I saw this HUGE soft toy at KMart (It was a pinkish colored hippo) yesterday....I hinted to hubby that this will look great in our baby room!!! I think the toy was $78...who cares it was cute and cuddly! ....Mind you its not like I dont have enough soft toys already!!! he he ha ha

hey guys what other cutie cutie decorative things can I buy for the baby room? give me ideas...cause after this Sat I am going shopping!!!

Another question...should I buy a duvet for baby cot? I was going to buy this beautiful one from PP. Would it be okay for a new born?

I dunno if you are into sewing or know anyone that sews well, but go to spotlight and have a look there, you can get some really neat stuff to make up the cot sheets, quilts, and even stuff to make bumper pads (if you want them, i never used them) and some even have nappy stackers that you can make too... there's heaps of different ranges of co-ordinating stuff, some even have matching curtains... if i had known what paris was i would have gone overboard cos i worked there on weekends while preg with her. of course... not knowing the gender didn't stop me from going slightly nutty... i hand made all our bibs with awesome bright coloured material on the back of towelling, and made all our cot sheets and also made a couple of cute duvet covers (cot sized) and a few other cute things too.

in regards to your question though about the duvet cover... think about when you plan to use it, because in a few months... it will be summer and you probably wont need it, in fact, by the time you have baby it will possibly be warm anough to forgo it altogether really...   best thing to use is lots of light blankets, like the aircell ones, as they breathe, and you can take a couple on or off as the weather dictates. also, in the event of baby managing to get a blanket over its head (sometimes babies have ways of doing things that even i can't figure out) if the blanket is breathable enough they have less chance of suffocating.   maybe get a light cot quilt instead and look for a duvet closer to next winter?

i was told no to duvets. but they are used all the time in Japan. I got lots of pics and printed them off the computer and had them framed. we can't paint or anything so it made the room look a little more babyish. how about a mobile?

I did some cross stitch pics in the end because I couldn't find any pics I liked anywhere. That's pretty easy and will give you something to do when you are sitting at home before baby is born...

I painted a few pics for paris's room, and she also has a couple of fabric printsin her room... fisher-price brought out a material (available at spotlight... not that i'm an ad for them or anything lol) with their cute little bug and animals pics on it, and it each is in a large square of colour. they're just backed with wood.

Maya was a summer baby and we had cot quilts. I bulked them up in winter with extra blankets. I got 2 sets from KMart for about $40 each, and they were both really cute. They did come with a bumper, but I didn't use it.

We also got some Winnie the Pooh foam stick on thingies from the $2 shop which brightened up her room, and the sticky pads on the back of them didn't wreck the paint so my landlord was happy.

Mobiles are great too, they look cool, but mine was also a life saver when Maya was grumpy, she would lay there for ages staring at it going around with the music. We just had a cheap Warehouse one with stuffed animals on it.

Yep. Bumpers are also a SIDS risk, as baby can get his/her head trapped underneath. Some people I know have used the bumpers as decoration at the foot of the cot where it's safer, but we never bothered.

yep, us neither... i like the idea of baby being able to have air circulating... some people say, oh but won't their head get cold? well, that's what hats are for... Paris wore a tiny beenie for ages after she was born, practically all the time for the first few months. Ayja not so much but that's only cos after her bump on the head she hates anything touching her head.

jake is a roller and gets his hands, legs, whatever stuck in the cot gaps so we had to use bumpers until just recently. we took them off when i saw jake using them to stand on...he also uses any soft toys to try and escape with...be warned

It is just that I heard bumpers are good for making the kids feel "safer" in their cots as it doesn't seem like such a wide open space after being used to a little bed... We are wanting to move Joey into his cot very soon (he hardly fits into the carry cot anymore, sigh...) and I don't have a bumper, I am deciding whether to get one or not...

We didn't have that problem as we never had a basinette, Maya went straight into the cot from the time I brought her home. I did wrap her tho, and we had a safety sleep which probably added to the sense of security.

I did used to worry about her being warm enough, but then I bought her this gorgeous Piglet suit when she was about 3 mths old, it was polar fleece with a little hood and ears on it. It was great for night time because I put it over her pyjamas and the hood kept her head warm. I loved it so much that the following year I bought her one the same in a bigger size.

Now she has these things called 'Blanket Sleepers' that I got from Farmers for about $25 each. Sounds expensive, but they are polar fleece, fully lined, and go over her jamies and she stays so toasty, even when she kicks the blankets off. I don't worry so much about her head anymore since she has so much hair.

I have a litle "sleeping bag" for Joey from Germany, it stops them kicking the blankets off etc. and also makes them feel safe and warm.

Ana, if you want to transition Joey into the cot and get him used to being in it, put his carry cot into the cot to start with, then, once he is used to that, just stick him in the cot.. some babies actually love having more room to move their hands etc around.

Janine - I have been doing that since saturday He is in there right now actually, but we have him in our room at night still. I think I will try him without the carry cot tomorrow as he really has hardly any room.

Roksana - I thought we would be able to use the carry cot for ages but Joey is almost 5 weeks old now and hardly fits into it any more. It depends how big your baby is I suppose! But it is a nice idea and if you are going to be having other babies anyway...

really, they can be more of a hassle i think. if baby feels insecure to start with you can always wrap her anyway, and we short-sheet both our girl's beds... even now paris has only 1 sheet, folded in half, simply because she is at the stage where she sometimes like to snuggle right down under the blankets... this way she can't get too far down and get trapped.

in the long run, they use ti for such a short time, and you'll have to then go through getting them used to the cot... it is easier to just put them in the cot from day 1.

Ana, do you have room in your bedroom to put Joey's cot? simply because that could be a factor in him not being able to settle well in his cot, if he is used to being near you, it can be a huge jump to move to a new bed AND a new room altogether away from mummy...Ayja has always slept better if i was in the room, she always had better afternoon sleeps when i went for a sleep too, she still does. Just a thought... makes it nice for breastfeeding too cos you don't have to go all over the house to get baby and feed and all that.

on the other hand i swear the reason why Jake took so long to sleep through the night was because we were waking him up when we shared a room. He started sleeping solidly through the night about two days after we moved rooms. with B2, it'll share a room with me for about four months and then when we move to Gisborne, it'll have it's own room.   eeew, i hate using "it" to descirbe a baby.

That's the thing, there is absolutely no room to fit Joeys co in our room I will miss him heaps when he has to sleep next door, it's not how I planned it but he is just growing toooo fast

We could fit the cot in our room, but I dont like that idea. Baby's room is just opposite ours and should not be a problem...I wont even need a baby monitor to hear the baby cry.....Tho I do have one!!!

We decided last night that we wont buy the basinette afterall.

jack was in his bassinet until he was 12wks old. he was small though and also wore a pavlik harness which kept his wee legs tucked up.
i borrowed my sister's bassinet, thankfully. we were lucky enough to have a baby that sleeps really well. he first slept through the night at 6wks, i nearly crapped myself when i woke in the morn and he hadn't!
his first night in his cot, took to it straight away and continued to sleep right through.

Ana, he looks so cute! Love the cot too.

We only have a bassinett cos we didnt have to buy it. We have the one that Daniel and all his siblings used, just bought a new mattress for it. Its really lovely, hope the baby likes it!!

We have finally started the babys room - we were just going to paint straight over the wallpaper but ended up having to strip it all back!! I have just finished stripping the wallpapaer - after 2 days! and am now waiting for Daniel to plaster it up and sand it so we can start painting. I also have to sand and paint the windows and paint the ceiling Definitly so not recommend leaving this kind of job til you are eight months preggy!! Dont know how Bonnie does it!

I know the feeling! But I have a point to prove you see - I'm the one that really wanted to redecorate and everyone else kept saying it was fine! So I got sick of waiting and started pulling the wallpaper off myself! Its actually not too bad cosit gives me something to do and I really want it to be nice for the baby. Plus now Ive started it has to be finshedsoon!

Roksana, hows work going? And the baby shopping?

Work is okay...but at times I wonder if I should finish early....my bubs movements are really hurting me now....I can see her legs sticking out at times and her bones rubbing against me..every time she moves (which is quite a bit)....is painful!!!!!

I am going on a major baby shopping this weekend!!!!

And looking forward to it!!

Oh that sounds like so much fun! The shopping I mean! Theres nothing wrong with finishing work earlier than you planned. If you are having doubts maybe you should finish earlier - I decided money wasnt that important in the end. And its really nice not working and being able to rest when you need to!!

hmm....I have different size cloths at the moment...any thing from 0000 to 0. I have to see how big the baby is and then go and buy that size. Mum has bought me 0000 but said will hold off buying more cloths as bub might be tiny...or too big.

be reeeeally careful with 0000
well... not careful... but don't many at all!
han was 4260kg when born and 0000 is up to 4kgs
she didn't even fit her cute little clothes at all!!!!
000 is a bit safer and then if babe is small when born you can send someone out to get 0000.
by the way... baby nightshirt type things are good for while in hospital. don't have to fiddle round too much with them to get tiny appendages in holes!

Maya was too big for 0000 when she was born, went straight into 000.

Ha caleb wore the Pumpkin Patch bears clothes when he was first born, and mum made heaps of lil tiny stuff for him.. And a suggestion for anybody expecting that is renting to do babys room up, you can get stick on pics from baby border ones to spidreman ones, they stick to any surface and come off with no marks or ripped wallpaper or peeling paint, I got them for Caleb and have moved a few times now and they still stick, we have upgraded from winnie the pooh to monsters inc, he thinks hes to BIG for pooh now, so we have put them up in the babys room, Spot light, kmart the red shed has them for about $30.. i recomend them

omigod those clothes are so tiny! i can just imagine a tiny bub in them!

i think the best size is 000, doesn't matter if it is a bit loose.. baby will grow into it in a matter of a week or so. I think i've said this before, but ask your midwife how big she estimates baby will be... it's usually a good way to gauge things. plus, if things are looser, it make sit easier to get on and off.. cos as we all know, new babies aren't the most willing and obliging at bending little arms and legs when you are trying to dress them.

As you know most cloths I have now are all pressies so I did not buy a thing yet....Sat...Yay!!!!!

I think I have enough 0000 cloths if the baby is small and have a few 000 but I have put cash away and told hubby and mum that if I need cloths of a different size, they will have to go and get some in a hurry. + I have over $150 in PP gift vouchers that I gave mum.

I am so looking forward to Sat when I go shopping for my baby!!!

best sizes to buy are 3 - 6 months and 6 - 9 months cos they usually can stay in them for a while, at firs thtey are baggy then they can wear them up till they fit snuggly. we have aheap of size 0 stuff, some still fits Paris now cos all the different brands have different fits, and well, Paris has no bottom, so we have to get smaller pants with long legs.. that's where pumpkin patch and JK are great cos they have the adjustable waists, otherwise paris would loook like a homie, with her pants around her butt.

We love PP and JK adjustable waists. Great for my tall skinny monkey.

I always buy either 00 or 0 when giving presents coz they grow so fast when they are tiny.
