Ok, I went to see my doc today and my self-diagnosis (!) was correct - I have dislocated a rib. OUCH! Just wondering if any of u have dislocated while preggy and what u did. I have been using a heat-pack regularly, lying down a lot cos sitting is worst and massage. Going to try going to the swimming pool this arvo - might be a bit of relief. Also tried taking panadol but didnt even touch the pain. Im not normally one to give into pain - usually just get on with it! - but this is very unpleasant. Nothing i can do about it til bubs is born tho so heres hoping its a little bit early! ------------- Aimee Hannah 22/10/05 Greer 11/02/08 |

Maybe the pain of your rib will be enough to block out the pain of child birth???? Here's hoping!

Fingers crossed Nikki! Am hoping for bubs to drop soon so hopefully will take some pressure off it. Good excuse for lying on the couch - dont feel so guilty about it now!

Aimee... don't feel guilty about lying on the couch, it'll only get worse once the babe is here! I felt like I spent the first 3 months of Hannah's life sitting on the couch feeding her. It seemed I never left the damn thing!
And thanks  decided it was about time for a change. Then I get to update in a month and a half again!  Have to take more pics of Han, I'm a bit behind

yep, mike blames me for the fact that 2 springs broke on our couch... in the part that i sit on to feed.. lol.
Roksana... don't be scared.. fear makes pain worse... it is true... the best thing you can do is arm yourself with all the info you can on different types of labour, ways to releive pain, good positions and breathing techniques and everything else... theres still time. knowledge is power... and by the way... everyone always tells the horror stories but if you look up the birth stories part of the site, or even the birth stories post that ran a while ago, you'llo see that most people are perfectly fine. ------------- Janine and her 2 cool chicks, Paris & Ayja

honestly, my birth was painful but nothing that i couldn't handle.....well, i seem to remember being in the bath, then pushing, then came a baby. It couldn't have been that bad cause I'm doing it again.....oh dear God..

Actually I am more excited than worried...I think that will change soon enough! I am not worried about the pain (I never did) but worry about what could go wrong with the baby....as I said before, I am completely in love with this baby and would just die if any thing went wrong. I am past being worried about labour now - I just want it out! My doc said thats mother natures way of making it less stressful - by that stage you are so sick o being pregnant you want to push it out! Hi Aimeejoy. I had 2 dislocated ribs with my boy. I think I was 32-33 weeks pregnant at the time. One on each side & caused by my son Alex! God it hurts doen't it? And everytime he moved it hurt more. My midwife didn't believe me how bad it hurt (before the dislocation was discovered) so I ended up seeing my doctor who found the problem. I ended up in hospital for a week on pethidine. It was the only thing that dulled the pain & made my son sleepy enough to stop moving & popping them out again. I am so glad someone else has had this! I cant believe how painful it is sometimes  Am really hoping that bubs is a little early cos sometimes i dont think I can handle it for another 5 weeks O well, its a good excuse to lie around but man is it boring!!

Hmmmm I don't remember seeing it but in saying that I don't get on the treasures one too much.
I found that heat packs only slightly helped. My doctor also said that my next pregnancy it may happen again! He said onces it dislocates, the easier it is to dislocate the next time I so hope he is wrong!! I am NOT keen on two dislocated ribs again!!!!! I spent a lot of time at the swimming pools too after they released me from the hospital, in the hopes of taking the pressure off. Yep same here lizzle, PAris's birth wasn't really too bad, not really painful just a cold nervous feeling.. and really intense tightness of my tummy. and the pushing didn't hurt at all cos it took so damn long!
Ayja, well, i hate to say, that was excrutiating! at first the contractions were nothing, nothing nothing, then i finaly got in the bath - i'd been putting it off cos i remembered last time that's what made the contractions regular... so delayed getting in the bath this time till after mike got back with mum to babysit, lol. contractions all over the place, lasting as long as a sneeze (lol) then i got in the nice warm bath and BAMM! next one i have is reallly long and sooooo painful. after 2 more i spent nearly half an hour trying to get out of the bath and get dressed so i could get to hospital. lol. and this time i was in so much pain i was sick, i had to crawl into the lift, and out again, and they had to physically lift me up from the delivery room floor cos i got to the room just as a contraction was coming and just stayed sitting there and wouldn't get up. lol this time hurt more, was so much quicker and sometimes, on those odd moments when i feel sad that we have decided not to have any more... i just think about ayja's birth and say "oh, thank god for that!" lol

the pain is still VERY fresh in my mind. i haven't written hannah's birth story on here yet, i should do that some time soon, even as a de-clucking device!
saying that though, the pain i could deal with, it was the effort i had to make while pushing that almost killed me! i was so exhausted and the last thing i wanted to do was use all my energy to push a baby that didn't want to move!! Han was a bit crooked so i think that's why it sucked, hate to have a posterior baby [is that the backwards facing one? can never remember!] that'd be even harder!!!! i tried to tell my midwife that i couldn't do it anymore but eventually my body took over and she managed to wriggle through the birth canal! still need a few years before i'd consider doing it again tho. hehe feel like i'd be able to listen to my bod better next time. maybe i am looking forward to it???? still need atleast 5 years

Hey Nikki. My boy was posterior which was why he got stuck and I ended up with a c-section. He was facing upwards instead of downwards, with his spine facing my spine. It hurts soooooooo bad. I had 20 hours of that before asking for an epidural I don't think I've ever been more exhausted in my life! And here I am thinking about #2! Lol. | Jake was posterior too. But i wasn't too bad, had three hours of labour and one of pushing. he had a weird shaped head for a while though. |

Hey Toni - did your ribs impact on your labour at all? People keep asking me if its going to make it harder to push? I was kind of thinking that there would be less pressure on the ribs by that stage cos baby so low. ------------- Aimee Hannah 22/10/05 Greer 11/02/08 |

Well I never got to the pushing stage at all because I ended up with an emergency C section. And Alex didn't drop into my pelvis until my labour was established either so I'm not really any help to you there.
I remember them really aching during labour but to be honest I was more worried about the contractions at the time. My midwife didn't seem worried that they would cause a problem and the doctor who preformed my c-section didn't make any reference to my ribs at all & she was aware of the dislocation. I havnt had a dislocated rib, but in the past ive had numerous broken ribs.. so i kno wthe pain and being preg aswell would be horrible... my friend had to dislocated ribs with her twins and it was her second pregnancy and she sain it hurt like hell to push but the contractions took her mind of her ribs, she said it made pushing alot more uncomfortable.. sorry to have to share that with you but it might not be all that worse well i hope for you any way... ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

Hi Aimee. It annoys me too when people try & say you haven't got something that you know you have! My MIL tried to tell me that it is NOT possible for your baby to dislocaqte your ribs! And yet my doctor said it is actually easier to dislocate things towards the end of pregnancy because everything has "softened up" to help you give birth.
I am sooo hoping it doesn't happen to me this time around......I'm praying for a smaller and less active baby. I hope everything goes well with your birth & that it doesn't hurt too much (Lol!
