Tashzmum - are you sure of your EDD?? Its just when I was looking back on the boards it said you had only ovulated at the end of july, so your EDD should be in April!
I just worked out myself, if I am lucky this month I would be due May 2nd - and I am on about Day 18 today - so your EDD is after that, can't be right?! Remember it goes by the date that your last period started, not date of ovulation! Theres a EDD calculator on the pregnancy link at the top of the Ohbaby page!
CONGRATULATIONS anyway!!! Here's to a flood of BFP's this month!

I htink I'm going to tell mum and dad today, I really want to tell them together, and if I don't do it today I'll be really tempted to tell mum during the week and dad will be at work.
Its funny how now that I know I'm pregnant I have realised I had a few signs this last week.
Like when I was pregnant with my daughter, I didn't really need to go to the toilet more often but just had trouble holding on. Usually I can hold on for ages lol
So I realised that lately when I've needed to go I've had to go immediately or it gets painful.
Also my boobs have been really sore, usually around AF time they get a bit tender but if Brianna leans on me or knocks me it really hurts.

Cogratualtions Mel! Im the same, we have told our families and a couple of our closest friends but that is all. People were asking us last night when we were having No.2 or whether there was any news they hadnt heard about and i had to lie and say no!! i felt really bad, but i dont want everyone to know yet just in case...

maree- i had the same, on friday i went out with some mums and one of them a resonably good friend of ours was talking to me and she said "so are you going to try for another?" and she was talking babies... i found it really hard not to just say "well actually..." but i managed to keep it to myself, although i felt a bit flustered so hopefully i didnt make it obvious, i dont think i did, but then maybe i came across a bit rude? ooooh i hope not.
have just been out to lunch for fathers day- it was really nice, such a beautiful day here.

Its funny, i get so paranoid when you know you are pregnant but others dont and they are asking questions, and you dont really know what to say! its very hard, probably worse when you already have one and then everyone is waiting for you to announce when you are having your second...

My parents (and ILs) would never be able to keep a secret so we've always told right from the start LOL But in saying that, if we had got pg the cycle which finished right when my grandmother passed suddenly, we would have kept it quiet for a couple of weeks.

I had the same thing happen on Friday, I didn't know for sure if I definitely was pregnant by then but suspected it. I have a close friend who is pregnant too and her inlaws were talking to her about the baby.
Next thing they look at me and ask "so when will you be having another" I think I got a bit flustered too, but just said, maybe soon.
We told my parents today, I had to tell my brother and his wife also cos they were there, at least I got to tell everyone at the same time and now its out of the way.
Oh and Congratulations daikini

eek maree on the morning sickness, it has also started to hit me- ew, i am sitting here feeling awful yuck, still i feel happy having morning sickness, makes me feel pregnant. the early stages seem weird, no bump, cant feel baby moving- so the morning sickness is a reminder that yes in fact i am carrying a precious little baby
i hope that morning sickness doesnt get to nasty for anyone.

It is nice in one way, but in some others its kinda annoying - for example, when I was talking to the doctor she said she wasn't going to bother prescribing folic acid for me as I've pretty much missed the timeframe I should have been taking it in! Plus I've got a smaller chance of getting a midwife as they book up really quickly and most people due March/April have at least met up with a few midwives by now!

I think I'm going to enjoy being pregnant over summer. Last pregnancy I was living in Australia (Sydney) and was my biggest right through summer, I hated it. It was so hard to keep cool, I practically wore nothing when I was at him lol And we had no air-con in our bedroom
At least this time it won't be so hot.

i am seeing my midwife next week to discuss things, hopefully come up with a plan for my blood pressure issues in my last pregnancy. will get my bloods and scan form then- mid(ish) october the 12 week scan! that will come pretty fast, busy month ahead with birthdays (my oldests 5th birthday) a wedding and lots of stuff in between, lots to do to make things go fast.
feeling pretty yucky tonight. wanting to eat to get rid of the icky taste.
how is everyone feeling? has it hit you that your pregnant yet?? after talking to my midwife today it made me realise that i am actually pregnant! lol.

Hi Rach, im feeling a bit blah, dont really know what i want to eat and feeling a bit sick, my last pregnancy i was sick a few times a day from 7 - 30 something weeks. Im a wee bit worried about the birth, i had a large hemmohrage(sp) with the birth to Breanna and lost 2l of blood. Will be giving birth at the hospital this time rather than the birthing centre "just incase".

Hi,
Im seeing a midwife tomorrow. My daughter was bon in the UK so starting to get used to the different system here.
Hoping that it is going to sink in a bit more once I have seen her as the only thing that I have that confirms Im pregnant is a positive pregnancy test. Last time I was throwing up morning noon and night by now! Not happened yet this time which I am not sure if Im happy about or not? Weird hey!

Hi Rosewood, welcome!
It definitely hasn't sunken in for me yet, I meet with my mw towards the end of October for the 12 week check up, seeing as I went to the doctors this morning for the bloods etc. I think once I hear the heartbeat it will be a bit more real.
I was lucky last time not to have much morning sickness, just a bit of nausea in the mornings for six weeks at the start. I was so tired last time though! Not looking forward to that part.
Rach, I had blood pressure issues last time too, ended up being induced right on 38 weeks after being in hospital for a while. Have you got any ideas yet about how to keep it down? I'm going to be walking and swimming lots, I'm hoping exercise will help (I was useless last time) and am checking out foods. Avoiding caffiene is a big one - I'm such a chocoholic it's not a pleasant thought along with all the other food restrictions! Will be interested to hear what else you find out.
Mareed, you'll get to use the new birthing facilities at Waikato, they should be open by then. Much better than the 70's decor they've currently got going!

Mazzy we are very close is dates, my EDD is the 12th May.
I saw my GP today, he was so happy for me, and we had a really good talk and got my blood tests done.
I'm feeling a little confused about my maternity care though. I was diagnosed with epilepsy last year after having 3 seizures, so am taking meds. My GP said he is sending a referal to the ante-natal clinic so I can see them and said not to worry about a MW unless I find one I really want to go with.
So I'm not sure what to do, cos if I wait for the hospital to contact me then if I'm not happy I'll have to find a MW then it might be too late.
I might wait a week and see if I've heard from anyone and i not rings a few MW's or I guess I could even ring the hospital couldn't I?
Has anyone else ever had to see an obstetrician instead of a MW?
|
Posted By: Mazzy
Date Posted: 04 September 2007 at 9:14pm
I've only ever had a midwife, sorry.
You could look for a midwife anyway, the process of finding one might take a few weeks and by the time you are thinking about signing in with one (or not) then the hospital may have contacted you anyway? I'm pretty sure that some midwives also do shared care, half and half with an ob. That might be a good option?
I'd ask the same question on the Pregnancy board in general, you might not get as many replies in here.
Good luck with your decision!

i have seen an OB alongside my midwife in all my pregnancies, but only a few times during pregnancy but they were there with all my births (or on hand)
i had a heamorrhage after my first birth too and i was so scared, i didnt want anymore kids, but then found myself pregnant when my first was 7 months old. they give me an iv straight after the births now for 6-12 hours to contract my uterus and i havnt had another though it is always on my mind and i have had a wee freak out after my births since, especially if i see a little too much blood! lol.
as for high blood pressure- my midwife asked how my weight was (which isnt ownderful but not too bad) and she just told me to be careful about how much weight i gain right now, before the pregnancy weight starts to happen (eek! really hard when all you want to do is eat!!) but last time i had great weight gain hardly anything in the first 2 trimesters it wasnt until my 3rd that it started to pile on a bit more. and she has told me to get out for a brisk walk about 4 times a week to work on my fitness she will discuss a few more things next week. i just hope it doesnt go as bad as last time- i dont want to go on the meds again, they made me so drained and didnt do anything anyway! i was induced at 39 weeks my blood pressure on 3(?) pills was 180/118 had started at 130/70 so rose quite a bit.
rosewood, great that you have chosen a midwife hope you like her

ETA: my due date is a bit of a guess but I just couldn't resist adding a ticker. I will need to wait until after I've seen my GP to get the official EDD.

yummymummy isn't it so exciting seeing your ticker, I love looking at mine.
Is anyone looking at maternity clothes already. I know its way too early but I can't help it, I can't wait until I start to show and can wear them.
So far I have actually bought some jeans, but I got them befre I was even pregnant I just couldn't resist, they are pumpkin patch and were on sale so I just had to have them lol
Oh yeah, and I got some Belly Bands off Trade Me, they should be here tomorrow

Congrats Yummymummy, that's awesome news! Your kids are going to be so close in age, how wonderful. Isn't it neat when you get an 'early' surprise? We didn't think it'd happen so fast for us either.
I kept posting whenever I could when I first got my ticker up, just so that I could see it again and again, so you're not alone on that one!
MelandBri, I'm about to get all my old maternity clothes out from under the bed and see where I'm at and what I might need. Having had my last baby in Spring I am so unprepared wardrobe-wise for a summer pregnancy, so I think some shopping may be in order!

I have looked on a couple of websites for maternity gear - one is Egg and I love the Egg Survival Kit. Hmmm not sure how long I'll be able to resist. I did not splash out too much while pregnant with Gina - I managed to get away with mostly wearing loose normal clothes but this time I'm going to splash. And I figure if I buy it early, I'll just get more wear out of the clothes so it's a good thing, right?

Congratulations Yummymummy! Fantastic news!!
All of my last mat clothes are all winter ones from the UK so dont think that I will be able to wear anyof them - what a shame!! a new wardrobe for summer for me then!

Damn it! Have just been browsing the Egg website and think I might have to go shopping this weekend. Also waaaay too early, but I like your guys' justification!
This may sound weird, but I keep forgetting that I'm pregnant during the day, then remembering just before I go to eat something inappropriate. Had a lovely muffin today at a cafe and it came out all covered in cream
Think I will have to start doing some baking. Although I am trying not to put on as much weight this time around. Last time I stopped weighing myself just before I hit 100kg - eek!

Hey Mel, with those Belly Bands, do you just wear normal jeans or whatever and put the bellyband over the top to "cover the gap"?

I got my Belly Bands yesterday, they are so cool. Although I kinda wish I had of got all long length, I got 2 regular and 1 long for $24.95.
Maree you do use them to cover the gap, if your wearing a shorter top that doesn't quite cover your belly or the top of your pants properly you just wear the band around your waist/over your bump so it gives a layered look.
The long one can be used as a boob tube too.
I love the Egg clothes, but find them a litte bit pricey.
Last night my emotions were running wild for the first time, I just couldn't control it and started crying, DH is saying don't you feel well, are you ok. I said, I just feel emotional all of a sudden.
Well it was over just as quickly as it started and then I had a laugh about it.

I just went to my GP and its confirmed - we are def pregnant EDD 18/05/08
I've been getting a weird pain on the right side in the last week and it's been getting worse so my GP is sending me to get some bloods done as well - I'll go this afternoon. He's not too worried about the pregnancy being ectopic as the pain is higher than that but he's given be a form to get a scan done if things get worse. He said if the pain is not too bad, I can leave the scan for a week or so because at a 5wks scan we may be able to see bubs.
So fingers crossed the pain will turn out to be nothing serious
On a different note, I can not stop myself looking on the Egg website - some of their clothes are sooo lovely. I'm hoping to hold off for a little while more until the Visa statement arrives and then I can charge it

Oh Mel its those damn pregnancy hormones aye.
I think i may have to just get some of those belly bands! they sounds really good.
Yummymummy hope everything goes ok. I had a weird pain right up my left side for a few days, it even hurt to get out of bed and when you pressed on it, it was when i was around 4 weeks, but it dissapeared on its own. Hopefully yours will do the same.

I got the Belly Bands off Trade Me from Melonbellies.
yummymummy I hope everything goes ok for you, I'm sure it will. I sometimes get a really bad pain when I've been lying down then get up, or even sitting. I do remember it happening my last pregnancy so I'm not too concerned.
I really need to find some nice comfy maternity pants. My tummy is getting really bloated and my jeans get too tight, then my tummy really hurts. I end up walking around with the top button undone lol

Hi Mel, im feeling the same, want to leave my top button undone too, its not so bad in the morning, but as the day goes on it gets uncomfortable. There is this place in Hamilton who have really cool clothing, its not maternity, but they do sell trendy pants with the band being made out of the same sort of stuff as the belly bands, their website is www.nesclothing.co.nz
Im going to go and get some soon i think!

Went and got my bloods done. I'm not too worried but it will be nice to get the all clear.
I'm feeling a little bloated too - I have heard that with bub #2+ the belly pops out sooner so I may need to get some preggers clothes soon. I saw a lady from work the other day (she left the co a while back) and she's pregnant with bubs #2 - she looked at least 8 months pregnant and is only at month 4! And no, she's not having twins (I did ask)

hope thigns are ok yummymummy- all things like that are a bit scarey i reckon, but im a paranoid pregnant!
i have been thinking about clothes too, because i was planning on shopping just before i found out i was pregnant, my trusty old pairs of jeans have just decided to fall to bits- one pair big holes in the knees and the other has worn out in the bottom so im in need and dont want to be buying pants that only fit me for a short time, but then i feel stupid buying maternity pants too soon!! argh! a dillema!
as for showing- this is my 4th pregnancy, i havent gotten very big in any of my pregancies and definatly didnt show any earlier in either- but i have been different sizes in them, this one might be different and i might show earlier. i hope so in a way- i cannot stand the stage where you dont look pregnant just like you have gained weight, it is depressing!
hope that everyone has a great weekend
rach xxoo
