Hey there, Paris has just moved form the babies section at daycare up to the over-twos section, and while she is apparently the perfect beautiful little angel child there, she is obviously observing very closely some of the older kids behaviours and bringing them home to try out. for the most part i have managed to teach her that such things are not acceptable.. but i was floored the other day when from the sweet mouth of my wee girl came a nasty comment..

I had taken a toy away after warning her many times to stop being rough with it(was banging it or something, i forget) anyway, she glared at me and screamed "give it back dick!" she knew straight away that she had said something VERY wrong, but when she wants attention or is angry or frustrated these words come out of her mouth... she does not get a reaction from us.. we simply tell her that those words are not acceptable in this house, and leave it be... but how have any others dealt with this.. am worried that kids at daycare are being nasty to her in this way and she is taking it out on us, but also am just so angry that i do my best to teach her what is good and acceptable and yet sometimes other peoples kids can completely trash that when their parents laugh and think it's funny.   argh, help.

Maya also brings home not so nice things from daycare. The latest is "No, go away Mama" in a really nasty voice when I ask her to do something.
Sounds like you have some good strategies in place already. We have started using time out when Maya won't play nicely. I just tell her "If you don't want to play nicely you will have to sit in the hallway until you are ready to play nicely". The hardest part is getting her to stay there, but it usually works pretty quickly.
I wouldn't worry too much about her getting picked on at daycre. I have found that (at Maya's centre at least) they are really good about nipping that sort of behaviour in the bud. The older kids seem to ignore the younger ones more than actually pick on them.
If you are worried, talk to the daycare tho. I sometimes sneak around the outside and watch what Maya is up to when she is in the outside play area so that I can see what is really going on (yes, I am a bit of a stalker!).
Could be an age thing too. Maya can be really feisty when she wants to be, just trying to assert her independence. Apparantly thats a good quality in adults - she needs to survive her childhood in my house first tho lol!

We have used time-out with Angie since she was little. It works well and we hardly have to use it anymore, only mainly when she is tired.
She has got some stuff from Playcentre and its part of life I guess. My sisters also swear ALOT so we just told her that you have to be 20 before you say swear words and that was that. She knows them all and read s**t the other day when she was reading emails over my shoulder but she never says them.
Telling her that it isn't acceptable works well too. We just explain that it's not nice manners to talk to people that way.
