Topic: Sewing clothes for pre schooler Posted: 22 June 2011 at 9:01pm |
Hi
I just bought some size 4 tops for my two year old and found they were too small. He is really tall. I am finding it hard to buy clothes that fit and are age appropriate. I think I am going to have to start sewing.
Does anyone know of some good suppliers of fabrics for boys? We live in Dunedin so our only material option is really spotlight and they don't have much boy stuff, even for good coloured knit fabrics for tshirts.
Anyone else sew for their kids? I would love to see some ideas.
Thanks

I have recently started sewing for DD. There are a lot of ideas to find on the web. And I've started "recycling" clothes.
I bought adult clothes in an oppshop (3 for $1,)and used the fabric to make clothes for DD. I made her some really nice trousers.
Spotlight is so expensive, it will cost you a fortune.

Recycling clothes sounds like such a good idea Ella, I looked around spotlight today and it was all about $10 a metre. I will have to look around.

You may even have some old clothes from yourself or your DH that you can cut up.
(I'm also less worried about messing it up if I haven't paid a fortune for the fabric.)
I'm really enjoying making things, just wish I had more time to sew.
Good luck!

Apparently Global Fabrics has opened a shop on lower stuart st beside R&R - so, another option for fabric. There's also Anne's sewing Room in Harvest Court. :-)

Thanks Sally, I hardly ever venture down Stuart street but I might have to go check out Global fabrics. Ella, you have had me looking at my discarded clothes as potential fabric, could be a good use for them
Now to find the time to sew....
