My main nappies are fitted towelling ones called Mother-ease (US) and lately they seem very 'crunchy' - anyone know how I could soften them up without using the wrong chemicals? They are generally washed with a bit of ecostore powder and line dried.

Maybe dry them in the dryer on low... I always dry our towels in the dryer because otherwise they go stiff and crunchy...probably the same with nappies made out of towelling.
Or reduce the spin speed on your washing machine so they don't dry so fast?

Yeh i'd finish them in the dryer. Our towel towels are always really rough because they're line dried. Time in the drier = yummy fluffy towels!

Try drying them about 3/4 dry then put in the drier for the last bit- means they get the sun on them to sanitise them, and you dont use as much power!

Good idea, but we don't have a drier .
Maybe microfleece liners would help in the meantime..

I find cansteen softens my nappy wipes and inserts. So maybe give that a try?

a little bit of white vinegar in a rinse helps too. I have the same with our nappies. Every now and then they end up having a dryer dry for various reasons (we don't have a dryer either) and it softens them up a lot for a while.
Also make sure they're totally clear of detergent. I usually put ours through an extra rinse cycle.
