Topic: Strepsils... Posted: 27 September 2007 at 10:56am |
Can you take anything for a sore throat whilst pregnant.
Mine is killing me when I swallow and I have some strepsils calling to me but they contain cough medicine so I guess they are not allowed, is it just warm honey in water for me?

I took them while I was pregnant with Josh and had no problems. If you don't want to take them what about soothers or throaties??

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I took them while I was preggers too. Went to a pharmacy and asked them which ones would be the best to take.

Emma I rang healthline and they told me strepsils were fine but not to overindulge and if basically it didn't fix the problem then stop taking and take a trip to the doctor.

Strepsils are fine, they are even at the maternity ward in Palmy. Otherwise I generally find Vicks losenges are better and I presume they are of similar non-harm material.

Something I found helpful when I got sick whilst pregnant was the standard Lemsip with honey in. My specialist said it was about all I was allowed but it was surprisingly soothing.

Yeah strepsils, Lemsip (so long as it's not the flu version as that has pseudoephidrine) and panadol are fine - well according to my MW.
Feel better soon chick!

I got told NOT to take strepsils by the pharmacist. What they recommended was Propolis lozenges, which don't have alcohol in them. You can get them from most pharmacies and I found them really effective.

I've found those honey & propolis lozenges really good too! Much better than strepsils anyday! I had them when pg & having to take them again now due to the sore throat reappearing .

I used strepsils when I was pregnant last time but they didnt even help my throat at all, it was SO badly sore. I think honey and lemon with some crushed up panadol in it works the best :)
