Any one else feel the same???

I started to feel a bit anxious yesterday, turns out I forgot to take my meds (so I realised this morning!). Anyway, my DS woke twice again last night for a feed, 11pm and 5am. I took AGES to get to sleep after he woke at 5am, then was up at 7am. The day started with a coldsore developing on my lip. GREAT. Then an argument with my hubby who wanted to watch tele in bed. Hello, I thought we both had the responsibility of looking after our son??? Then I tried to put DS down for his morning nap with one arm out as I am trying to wean him off his swaddle. DISASTER. He screamed for almost an hour before I gave up and got him up :-( Then our dog caught his foot in the door and yelped which was horrible. Then our paper wasn't delivered. Lunchtime and I put my DS down for his nap swaddled and he still screamed the house down because he was so overtired. Hubby and I had a huge argument about putting him down screaming. He said I should have "tried harder" to stop him crying before putting him down but I KNEW he was so overtired he was going to cry regardless. Anyway he finally went to sleep which is the only thing that has gone right today!

I can't stand hearing him cry and I just don't know what to do about the night feeds. I'm not sure he should still be feeding at 7 months. He is hardly eating any solids, is it because he is feeding in the night? Who knows. I have tried a number of other methods to "help" him but I think the only way he is going to do it is if we let him CIO, and I just don't think I can do that :-( Argh, can't wait for this day to be over!

I really feel for you, I used to suffer from terriable anxiety and still have moments that it creeps up. Some days just don't well for what ever reason. I hate it we get over tired crying. (I got sent to the shop today when she was crying by DH because I couldn't deal with it this morning - DD is sick with a cold, teething, woke at 5am and is tired).

I have a little notebook, in which if I'm feeling down or overwhelmed I write three really good things and then I go back and read others I've written. I find it helpful.

My DH has the view that if something isn't working try something else and when faced with tricky situation I try and do this. If swaddling's working keep doing it. If you have concerns about BLW, you don't need to stick to it religiously, try giving him some jars of good quality food, they have measured amount in them and at least then you know how much he eats.

Re night feeding - you are his Mum trust your instincts. If you think he's not doing well on solids, give more feeds. Once you feel that he's gettng enough solids they work on the nght feeds. We used the Sleepeasy Solution, DVD, which covers, settling to sleeps, naps, naps routnies and night weaning. It does involve CC, but has options of how you interact when they cry.

I'm trying to learn to go.."eh, whatever, its just one moment and it will pass", but it's not easy, Sometimes we are so hard on ourselves, how can we be expected to get it right 100% of the time. I don't expect my friends to be the perfect parent and don't hold their mistakes against them and am learning to cuy myself the same slack.

PND was a real strain on all three of us, but we did get through and we are stronger for it. And one day so will you. And - hey you've nearly got through another day!

I second the above, hope it has improved.

We have had a sh*t couple of days, 5 am wakes, short naps, tantrums, 2 teeth, a cold (both mum and bub) and a fever. I feel a bit worn thin, and have cried quite a bit myself. No idea how to fix these early wake ups and it frustrates the control freak in me.

Plus side is she taking steps, just one or two from DH to me, but she starting to toddle!

Hope things have improved ladies - I have been in the same boat, getting anxious when things do go "right".

I hate the overtired crying too, sends me into a real spin - "I should be doing better with him etc..." but try to remind myself, they do get over it & don't remember crying themselves to sleep.

1st time - my 4yr old was similar on the night feedings, we ended up sleep training him at nearly 10months, as it was becoming obvious that he was "snacking" in the night, taking a lot less than a full feed. I would trust your gut with the solids, some bubs take a while to get into it. I have heard of other mums offering cooled boiled water to wean babies off the night feeds but I guess you would have to be sure they are getting enough during the day.
Don't you love it when other people (partners, grandparents etc...) tell you that you should try harder, like WTH!! I am doing my best, you want to have a go, then be my guest!

MMM - congrats on the steps, I take it your LO is around a year? Sounds just like my son at 1yr, early waking, funny naps etc... Do you think that your LO might be ready to move to one nap? My boy moved to one nap at 13mths, took a couple of wks to settle down but helped with the 5am starts, his natural wake time become 6-6.30, but bedtime was 6-6.30, so I didn't mind too much.
Hope you are all feeling better.

Tanya- what a lovely post!

Yep - DD has been transitioning to one nap for about 6 weeks, gosh what an up and down process that has been. Have learnt heaps though, like she needs heaps of morning actvity to sleep well. If she gets a good sleep over the middle of the day, she sleeps heaps better at night. We are now starting to have more consistent long naps.

I am feeling much better - big lesson this week that things do change. The cold and 4 teeth in one week really knocked my LO, but she's back to her usual cheeky sunny self. Its the first time she's been sick in her 14 months, so it threw me totally. So hard to watch her sitting there crying and feeling a bit helpless.

MMM - Good to hear that your feeling better, very rough on your LO getting a cold & teeth at once, pleased that the naps are getting better too. Moving to one nap was very up & down for us too, but was great once it settled, really enjoyed being able to get out & about for long spells in the morning. So true about the good naps breeding good night sleep.
I hear you on "things do change", I have struggled with that this week too, my youngest has been struggling with his naps, but I think (fingers crossed) we have it sorted. Just needed a bit more time up to get tired enough for a good long nap.
Hopefully the smooth waters are with us for a little while to come. Take care
