Dietician Vs Allergy specialist

Saw our GP this morning to discuss about my youngest son's allergy as well as about his milk. He has known cow's milk allergy and query soya & egg allergy/intolence. GP spotted his face showing red patch around his left eye (Did you notice this too, Tania, on tuesday?) and saw his eczema got worse since visit which was last week tues. We agreed we not happy with Eliot's progress with allergy. Not only him got problem, my daughter;'s eczema also flare up again, and only change in their diet pattern is I thought they got problem with soya, so they stop eating bread, then I started to do home made bread for them, then eczema back - yeast? wheat? gluten? She suggest look into get him seen by Dr Broome, allergy specialist or dietician that visit my GP's surgery rather than go back to Paed Dr at hospital because I wasn't happy with her experiences. My biggest problem is money, Dr Broome charge $375 (ouch) while dietician is $75 for first appt, $95 for second visit and $40 for follow up visits. (another ouch). Also my son is small for his age but burn calories fast like rest of family that we just eat, eat so dietician would help in this areas?
In your experiences, which one are better in helping us, dietician or allergy specialist? Or you know anyone else we should see? Thanks

I agree with Cuppatea, it's definitely worth seeing an allergy specialist, and it's most likely after he does the testing/diagnosis that follow ups will be a few months apart. You'll probably need to see the dietician as well to help with food ideas as the allergy specialist will pretty much only tell you what to avoid, the dietician covers what to actually eat.

I'm not sure how it works down there but we got a referral to a Public Health dietician which doesn't cost us anything. We have comprehensive health insurance, I've just found the Public ones to be better than the private ones in terms of available resources.
