Hi!
I'm new to this and saw a discussion a few months ago about Neocate. To make a long story short, has anyone else's baby reacted to Neocate. It seems like everyone else in the discussion didn't have ANY problems with it but my 6 month old seems to have gotten a rash from it and then cold like symptoms. I'm out of options to try. I've just been breastfeeding and trying to find a formula because my health is failing rapidly because of her multiple food allergies which limits my intake of food to only a few items. My weight is very low, my hair is falling out and I'm getting worse each month. Please someone help me and let me know if others had trouble with Neocate. We tried it for a week and she had a very mild rash then at the end of the week it got worse and the cold like symptoms came on. She's been on prevacid (which I don't like) for 5 months and we've tried Nutramigen and a soy formula. Nothing is working. She's very happy with just breastfeeding as long as I eat nothing different but my health is in jeopardy right now. The doctor said there are no other options if she can't have Neocate.

I'm at my wits end and ready to rip my head right off my body. On top of it I now have severe insomnia from the lack of nutrition in my body.

God please help me.
Thanks,
Jill

Sorry to hear your problem,
I don't know what milks they have in NZ as I was from UK. However when I was in UK, I tried five different milk before my DD was ok with cow & gate's Peptic Junior (not sure if it available in NZ?). We did tried Nutramigen, wysoy etc. I would keep tying other milks before you can find the right one suit her because each milks have proteins break down in different way, so some suit one baby and another suit another baby, IYKWIM.
I got several tins left over from my DD, to use on my DS2's breakfast cereal (he is also breastfeeding) but he react to it if he had more than 5oz per day max. I did tried get Neocate for my 12months old DS2 but "not qualify for it because he is still breastfeeding"????

Which doc told you there aren't any other options? If it was just your gp then I would ask to see the paed again (i'm assuming you saw one to get the neocate in the first place).
It's unlikely that your baby is reacting to the protein in the neocate as it has been broken down to amino acids but maybe one of the other ingredients, i.e one of the minerals might be causing the reaction.
I think you really need to see an allergy specialist for your babies health and yours, or at least a nutricianist or dietician who can help with your health if you are to continue breastfeeding.

Good luck

Hi!
Thank you for your responses. I have made an appointment with an allergist. Her pediatrician told me there were no other formula options and suggested I see an allergist. This is truly frustrating. Now we're trying to feed her infant rice cereal and she seems to be still reacting with a rash on her face. The Vitamin E in the cereal is derived from sunflower and sunflower was also in the formula. Hmmm!!! I don't know anymore. I've been dealing with this for 6 years with my son's allergies, mine and now hers. Very exhausting and mind boggling. I've researched so much on food intolerances and allergies it's not even funny.
God bless

Random thought, but could the reaction to the Neocate be coincidental? As in, could it possibly be something else causing the reaction such as an environmental cause but it coincidentally started around the same time as the Neocate? That's all I can think of.

Agree with this because my DS also got unexplain reactions in last few weeks, looking at food diary, I can't find the main cause apart from Olive.....with I am suffering from rhinitis allergies and my DD is severe allergic to grass pollen that she broke out in hives and swelling instead of usual running nose type, so I am looking into evvironmental esp. hayfever seasons just starting few weeks ago....I have booked him for skin prick environmental allergies test on 1st oct, so hopefully that will shed the light..as well as test new food allergens like wheat, soy, olive. Hi Jill,

Has your baby gotten any better? We have the same exact problem and are currently on Prevacid and Neocate...same exact symptoms, and they got worse. They say he has silent reflux and are doing skin testing next week as they think he has allergies. I breast fed till 4.5 months and has gotten much worse since I stopped. I never produced enough (due to hypoplasia) and have always had to give formula. I have tried everything! Please let me know as I am at my wits end.

many thanks,
Holly
