Toilet training a 5 year old?!?!

Have you been to the Dr to get it checked out?

Ask her if she's sore as well she might have a UTI?

And if you find that everything is ok... just know that we have been through that on and off too, especially last year... wet all the time, never changed espite having plenty of changes of clothes etc.

At about 4/5/6 they get so darn involved in what they are doing and playing they just plain forget, or think they can hold just a bit longer, a bit longer, then make a mad dash to the loo too late, or just wet after holding on too long.   With Paris at school, (and sometimes even at home), we found she was too busy to remember to go toilet, even when i said to her to make sure she went at the start of playtime and lunchtime, and she was too shy to ask to go during class!. frustrating as heck...

we also found that since her class was not in a block where there were toilets that she didn't have the visual reminder to go as she wasn't usually walking past them. it's tricky, I hope it gets better for you, we had about 5 or 6 months of it last year, this year thankfully has been better. Her class is still in a block with no loos but the ones she is close to are nicer ones, and she just seems more happy this year. I think alot of the problems last year also stemmed from problems with fitting in with other kids and having problems with some girls in her class who were mean to her alot.    

maybe try and talk to her to see if something is worrying her. don't directly broach the subject of her wetting, just ask about what she does at school, her friends, who she plays with etc etc, to get some idea. I tend to find usually one question will lead to her saying something then i ask something related to that and out it all comes.. whatever is wrong....

since starting toilet training with both our girls we have always had the calendar system.. they each have a calendar anyway in their room (great for learning about months and days of the week etc ) and when they have had a dry day they get to choose a sticker to put on it, and yeah the novelty sometimes does wear off, but it also gives an insight into some routines etc. Ie we found certain trends in Paris's wetting.. like usually would wet on mondays as used to being at home and free to go whenever, then tues wed thurs would be ok but by end of week she'd get tired etc and wet again. sometimes that would extend over the weekend. Its a good way to keep track of how many wet days she has a month/week and see if there are any similarities. plus by seeing all the days without stickers or with stickers she herself gets a sense of what's happening over a while too. takes a while to really stick and work well.

hope you find something that works or helps... it's very hard to deal with sometimes especially when they have been tt for so long, but you'll find there are a fair few of us here who have had, or are still having the same sorts of probs with our school-aged girls.
