We were prescribed this today but I've since heard it is useless. Has anyone used it and found it worked?

I know people who have.... It really depends on your wee one. Works for some, not others. If it doesnt work- try something else.

All reflux meds work for some people, but not everyone, so it's sometimes a case of trial and error.  IMO the omeprazole capsules are easier to use for babies - Reuben used to get half the contents of one floating on a teaspoon of water dropped into his mouth - if there's no history of allergies then mixing it with a tiny dollop of pear puree works best.  The biggest problem I know with the suspension (apart from having to pick up a new lot from the chemist every week) is that it tastes so vile, I think the baby might prefer to just put up with the reflux!  Serious - give it a taste!  It's designed for naso-gastric feeding rather than oral.  But if it works for your little girl, horray!!!  I don't think it's less effective than the granules.

Yup, it's evil tasting! Daniel started on Omeprazole at 10 weeks and I just gave him half the granules mixed with about 2-3 squirts of breast milk. It's meant to be paste like - you stick it in them then stick them on the boob.   We tried the syrup twice but gave up cos he was SO not having it!

I'm not sure she needs reflux meds anyway. I think i'll wait a few days and then get the throat checked again. If the redness is gone then it was a virus. If it is still red then I'll try the meds (I'll ask for the granules).

Oops, just realised I was talking about Gaviscon not Losec. You're not meant to give Losec with milk as it makes it ineffective. Blond day!

We used it with our little girl. Hard to get into her for the first few days but then she was great at taking it. We only ever used the syrup not the granules. She was on it for about 4 months

Thanks everyone. Ashley is doing great so thankfully it would seem it was just a virus. :) Appreciate your feedback though 'just in case'!

Wow we gave Jake his granules right before a feed and it worked.... Bascially tipped them on his tongue and put him straight on the breast... how are you supposed to do it????

It has worked a treat for us, but Jakes reflux is mild and he only needs 1 capsule even now he is heavier.
