elect. C-sect after assisted vd

Hi, just wondering whether anyone else was thinking about or had an elective C-section after a first traumatic assisted birth ?What were your thoughts and experiences? Also if you live in Auckland to which Ob/practice did you go to get one? Any recommendations?

A family member had an elective after 2 fairly traumatic VB's. First baby was posterior and required forceps...Mum ended up with 3rd tearing. 2nd baby was a surprise 10lb'er, and ended up with shoulder dystocia, the lovely water birth turned into an emergency with people running down the corridor to the room, mum on the floor with 5 people pumping her tummy and legs to try and free babies shoulders!
Baby was in NICU for the night but both mum and baby were fine.
When number 3 was on the way, there was a discussion with an OB on whether to have a VB......with the possibility of another big baby and repeat of birth #2. She was given the option of an elective c-section, which she did end up having.
I think it depends on what happened during your previous birth/s and the likelihood of a repeat of that.
Have a chat to your midwife, see if she will refer you to an OB for a chat about your options.

I was an induction, 35 hr labour, with posterior 9lb 7 oz baby, ventouse, epiosotomy, 2&3 deg. tearing. Stayed a week in hospital, recovery took 3 months in which time we had bf issues, jaundice and full on reflux. Had to see a gynocologist as well who recommended i see an OB next pregnancy regarding tearing and given family history of inductions and big babies. I saw two different MW but one told me that second births are different, baby wont be as big etc. and the next one told me my chances of having a similar birth is very high. Saw two OB's who both recommended an elective Caesarean. The thing is i don't know what Caesarean are like since i never had one and am not sure i want a natural birth atm. Wanted to know whether someone has been through that and found the elective easier than the assisted birth especially in terms of recovery time? I have been reading up on the internet as well but find most research either pro-natural or pro-medical and it is hard to find unbiased neutral information regarding this issue.

Try PMing Arohanui - from memory, she had a traumatic #1 and elective c with #2 and found the recovery way easier with the elective c.
