Topic: Post pregnancy weight loss specialist? Posted: 01 December 2010 at 11:20am |
Does anyone know of someone who specialises in post pregnancy weight loss? My wife delivered 8 and a bit weeks ago, and has been doing everything yuou really can to lose the wright she put on.
She doesn't have that much at all, but it's enough for her to not fit her clothes and she's been trying so hard to lose the wight but getting no results.
She walks/jogs at least an hour a day and eats very carefully. she's not breastfeeding and her diet really cant be much better.
She's healthy, but finding it really hard to understand why she isn't getting anywhere - she's excercising more and eating the same or less than before she got pregnant but nothing seems to help - are we missing something important here?
I'd like to find someone that can help us make sense of why the weight isn't coming off and what she can do to get results. It's really getting her down.

i used to deal with this stuff when i was a personal trainer. any personal trainer should be fine for this as they are all trained for different situations.
firstly make sure she is doing the right weights and enough rest time. if she isnt doing resistance training then she should just give up now cos eating well and just walking probably wont do a hell of a lot.
second make sure she is eating enough, especially protein. her hormones will be out becuase of having the baby and if she isnt eating enough and doing too much exercise then she always wont get anywhere.
lastly and this is just one of those things. most ppl wont get their body exactly the same due to hormones and the fact the body just stores fat in different places esp tummy and hips after children. i think if it is that much of an issue and her expectations arent realistic then maybe talking to someone would be her best option. i had lost my pg weight by 6 weeks but my body was still different and that is just something you need to deal with

Hi Monikah,
thanks for that, so resistance training is an essential part? good to know. I think the worst thing for her is that she just isn't seeing any real improvement for all the work she's doing.
It'd be easier for her I think if she was getting somewhere even if it's not happening as fast as it normally would - I'm sure you can understand how it would be frustrating to work at something so hard and not see anything as a result.
so, up the protien and add in some weights work.
would you suggest a personal trainer or dietician/nutritionist for the best results?

If you can afford it go for both. I wondered if she was eating enough.. cause if shes not her body will just go into starvation mode. I'm loosing my post baby weight and not BF anymore and I'm eating quite a lot. Its just good food.
And totally agree on the resistance work. Need that to tone up.

Firsttimedad, has she had her thyroid function checked?
As sometimes womens thyroid gland can become under-active during pregnancy or after having a baby and this has a huge bearing on weight loss.
Does she have any problems with lacking energy, hair loss, moods?
I personally have an under-active thyroid and it didn't get picked up until my baby was 9 months old. I was eating very healthy and exercising and wasn't seeing any results. I do breastfeed though, so before finding out my thyroid was under-active, I was wondering why I wasn't losing weight and was in fact gaining weight. So if your wife is still having the same issue with losing the last few kgs, maybe suggest to her getting her thyroid function checked
