Hi everyone. I'm sorry for my bad english but we just moved some months ago from Europe and I discovered just few days ago that I'm pregnant. I'm just at the 5th week so I really don't know if this pregnancy will go on or what, but I'm worried about delivery.
I had 3 c sections and 1 vba3c with an home birth before coming here. Now, as you can imagine, I really don't know how is the feeling here in NZ about vbac after 3 c sections. In Europe my hba3c was possible thanks to two great midwife, but here? Someone told me that Hamilton hospital could be more flexible, what do you think about that? Or, do you know a midwife that can be able to assist me at home? I already have a wonderful vaginal birth after 3 c sections so I know that it's possible (and safer than another c section, in my opinion!). I live in Auckland area but it's not a problem go to another city to have my baby
Thank you for your help.

Galway, a friend of mine had 2 c-sections (she'd gone into pre-term labour at 26 and 22 weeks) then went on to have 3 vaginal deliveries, 2 of them in the last 3 years) as she'd been able to go full-term. Once you have had a VBAC, they are usually willing to give you a chance as you have 'proven' you can do it already. They will want to know what reasons made the c-sections necce3ssary so they can decide whether you are 'at risk' of it happening again.

You wont be able to go to another city to have baby though, your midwife is 'contracted' to certain places, it may be the local hospital, or regional birthing units (depending on what part of Auckland you are in, that may be Botany/Papakura/Pukekohe maternity units, or Birthcare if you are closer to central Auckland) but she is not allowed to deliver in other areas that she isnt contracted to.

What part of Auckland are you in? If you post a thread looking for a homebirth friendly midwife in your area over on the pregnancy section of the forum, you may get more help, as this is not a very busy section.

Best of luck to you

I attempted a VBAC with my second. My first was 16hours full blown labour, baby's head never engaged, i never went past 3cm dilated. His head was 39cm and I'm only 5ft2. My attempt at a VBAC I laboured for 28hrs, again never got past 3cm. When OB came in & saw baby wasn't being monitored he went mental at midwives, hooked us up and dd was clearly distressed. Born by crash caesar an hour later she had to be resuscitated. Since then I had 2 elective c-sects, both great experiences.

My point being I'd got caught up in the "vbac must happen" mode, as did the midwives, and almost lost my daughter as a result. Medical intervention isn't necessarily evil, =). I'm having my 5th c-sect in november, & though it will be our last, never has my OB said there was a limit on how many caesars I could have. Good luck for your vbac & I hope it does happen for you, =).
Edited to make sense!

just nosying around in here, I had an emergency c-section 7 years ago (wow, really that long ago?!) and recently found out we are expecting in December. The emergency c-section wasn't very nice, I was induced for Gestational Diabetes, then laboured for 23 hours before my son went in to distress, I was fully dialated and pushed for 2 hours but he was facing the wrong way and was stuck wedged against my pelvic bone. Ended up in surgery, and I could feel the burn where they were cutting me open so they knocked me out. I didn't wake up for 2 hours oops, mustabeen tired. He was 9pound 6 - which is pretty big.

Naturally this time around I was all for the VBAC - but I'm getting more and more terrified as the days progress. I think I just need a good midwife (been referred to sp clinic darn it) to calm me and give me some good stories. I've read antoinettes blog and it gave me hope!

But due to massive pushing efforts (go me) from the last labour, I ended up with huge external hemmoriods which never went back in, I remember clearly the pain I went through in the weeks following just to sit down properly.

I'm scared. But want the VBAC. At least I've got like months to decide....

oh this is soooooo good to hear-!!
i had an emergency c-sction because DS got stuck and then got very stressed - glad we had it because we could have lost him but do feel rather robbed of the experience expecially as i got to 10cm in 4 hours flat with just gas!!

have had complications since and was told last month that they probably wouldnt let me labour again which i totally broke down about! adn of course th 3 c-section rule!! as we want 4 or 5 babies!!

anyway i think we will pay for a second oppinion if we get pregnant soon- would be devasted if it means we couldnt have our big family so hearing you have had 5 is great. over what time frame are we talking??
