To say that my Mum's family is unusual is a big understatement.

My Nana has been married 3 times, the first time to the father of my Mum (and 3 of her sisters), the second time to B (the father of 2 of Mum's siblings) and the third time to D. I believe Nana is still married to D but they are separated. Nana and B had an amicable divorce and still get on quite well, as do D and B.

My Mum's oldest sister left her third husband in December 2003, for a younger man. Nat and I got married Jan 2004, and R didn't come as she felt it would be inappropriate - not that we minded too much as she was right! and we would have felt ackward.

Christmas lunch this year is at my parents place, with my Mum's family. Nana will be there, along with both D and B (his daughter asked if he could come, and no one minds). R and her toyboy will be there, along with her daughters, my 2 cousins (who are 12 and 14). Mum's sister J and her husband P will be there, along with my cousin (aged 20); as well as another of Mum's sisters (B's daughter) and her husband, and their 2 or 3 kids: aged 9, 4 and one due around Christmas. Mum's brother M will also be there. Last Christmas, M got drunk and accused Nat of breaking Kiya's arm (she fell over when running). He did appologise for that however.

Things are going to be a little tense. M knows Dad will kick him out if he gets drunk again. Mum and her family are still annoyed at R for her irresponsible behaviour, and Mum's not sure about R's partner - no one has met him yet.

Oh boy!

I'm hanging out for Christmas dinner - it will be with Nathaniel's family. Nice and quiet!
Nathaniel's parents;
their daughter Rebecca (Bec) and her husband Dave and their 2 kids - Sam, 2, and Joshua, born 1-12;
Nat's brother Mike and his wife Sarah and their 3 - Michal (girl), 3, Ezekiel, 1, and Elisha (girl) born 22-11;
Nat, me and our 2;
and a family friend, Adrienne.

Boxing day will be pretty good too - my Dad's side of the family is normal!

I so know what you mean. One of my sisters has told me that shes not having her christmas ruined like last year. Excuse me i couldnt help giving birth on christmas day. This same sister is also pissed off at our other sister because her and her husband have just seperated after 20 years of marriage, and shes moving in with mum. Pissed off sister told other sister she should go flatting and that mum doesnt want her living there (so not true). So yes our christmas could be very interesting. I strongly contemplated not going. But then no one would be around for Jayde's birthday. So just crossing fingers stroppy sister keeps her mouth closed.

No offence, Maria, but maybe your sister needs to get a life! I don't blame you for getting annoyed that she is upset you had Jayde last Christmas!

My aunt is due around Christmas time... if she is in labour on Christmas day, I fully expect to be helping my Mum look after her other 2 kids - with pleasure!

yes we have come to that conclusion about her as well. Also think its a bit of a jelousy thing with wanting mum to herself. PS she does have a husband and kids to worry about, but tends to think about herself or how things effect her all the time.

Some people just don't get it, do they?

My aunt R is like that... for the last 12 months she has been considering having a baby with her toyboy because he doesn't have any biological kids. Excuse me? She turns 50 next year! Talk about risky behaviour! BTW, she's got 3 kids already, aged 27, 14 and 12, so its not like SHE doesn't have any children! And she hated being pregnant every time!

This year my immediate family is going to be spread in three parts of the country!!! And that's just my Mum, Dad, Sister, Brother and myself!!!

I am going to Picton to spend xmas with my Poppa and his wife and my Uncle and Aunt will be joining us with their 3 kids, 12, 9 and 5.

Mum and Mark and my siblings + Gareth (Jute's boyfriend) will probably be in Hahei, with the potential to add my 3 step sisters in there.

My Dad and his girlfriend will be in Hahei, I think his gf is going to force him into a Santa suit to deliver presents at the hospital (She's a manager up there). (My Dad being cheery at Christmas?!?!?!? She must have had a profound effect on him!)

So small(ish) Christmas this year, I'm used to everyone being at the one place. Might be a refreshing change... although I'm sad I won't get to see the parents.
