Topic: Anyone on their first IVF cycle? Posted: 04 March 2009 at 9:45pm |
HI I am in my first cycle of IVF with ICSI and not knowing anyone else who has had IVF, I wondered if I could connect here with others, share stories and support etc.
I had 2 embryos implanted last week and now Im waiting for the blood test next week to find out if it worked!
Im sure those of you who have been through this know that the waiting is a bit harrowing, and its hard to think about much else.
Im healthy and have had no problem with any of the drugs (apart from a sore and tender stomach the whole time and sore breasts)
Let me know how it is for you, that would be great.

Hi bubbles, wishing you the best of luck for a sticky embie or two even!!
Thinking of you in the dreaded two week wait, I think that was the hardest time for me, hang in there!
Our first cyle finished mid Feb in a miscarry unfort, so I am now waiting for a frozen transfer in May, and playing the waiting game once again.
Anyway, good luck I hope it all works out for you.

Thanks Scaredy Cat, I appreciate your kind words. It must have been horrible for you to miscarry.
All the best.

Hi Bubbles,
I am also waiting for my blood test next week!! This is the first cycle of IVF ICSI that we have and the wait is so horrible.
I have no sign of pregnancy (other than heavy breasts which may be other side effect). Do you have any signs??
You were fortunate to have two embryos replaced - I was only allowed one so they have frozen the other suitable embryo's! Any tips on how you may have persuaded them to allow two to be transferred?? I'm also looking for support, and people to talk to so would love to keep in touch.
Good luck

Hi ladies. I'm also on my first IVF cycle. I started the buserelin a week ago, so am behind the rest of you. Only side effects I have had so far are heavy sore boobs and I think that is a side-effect of the pill.
We are not doing ICSI, and are only having one embie replaced. We are paying privately for this cycle and since I am 30 and we have unexplained infertility we were strongly recommended to only have one embie put back. But it was our choice. For now we have decided to only put one back, but if the quality of the embies isn't great, we will take the specialists advice because sometimes they think 2 low quality ones is better odds than 1 low quality one.

HI Country girl and Loubee,
It would be great to stay in touch.
...And we all have sore boobs!
All the man has to do is think nice thoughts into a sample jar! its not fair.
I felt really good on Buserilin and Puregon, though that might have been the hopeful baby related excitment.
The drugs after implantation are not so nice for me.
To answer your question Country Girl, I had two embryos replaced because Im 41. They dont do that with younger women.
I dont think I have any signs of pregnancy this early...should we? what are they?
My sister who pops babies out like they grow on trees, says that an oncoming pregnancy feels just like an on comming period - and ive got those signs!
Loubee, how come you have to pay for your first cycle at age 30?

We are paying for first cycle because we are impatient! We are booked in for public funded IVF in September but wanted to start sooner. We have been trying for almost 2 years. Had 6 cycles of clomid and 2 unsuccessful IUIs. We have unexplained infertility so our eligibility for public funding comes from trying for 12 months or more plus the unsuccessful IUIs, plus the fact we are both 30.
When we realised that IVF was the last option left for us we didn't want to wait another 6 months to do it. Fortunately we have been able to pay for a cycle ourselves. Depending on the outcome of this cycle we may be reassessed to see if we are still eligible for public funding.

BFP means big fat postive or big fat pregnancy. BFN is big fat negative. Took me a while to figure them out!

the waiting is hard!! Im trying to prepare myself for either outcome, but telling myself i'll be able to have some wine and coffee if im not preg, is not much consolation!
Is anyone else eating as if they're pregnant while IVF-ing? Im doing the whole deal: no soft cheeses, no left overs, meals fresh and hot...Im not sure its necessary so early, but Im trying to make sure I have nothing to blame myself for if it doesnt work out.

Good luck for ET if you have it tmrw Cruzzy, I hope you feel ok and arent too worried or nervous.
I thought I would be nervous, but I havnt been actually. Every so often it hits me and I think crikey, I could either be preg or the whole process has been an expensive and invasive waste of time. I'll find out any day now!

All the best for your result Country Girl, I'll be thinking about you.
I'll know my results this week too, and all I can think about (apart from the utrogestan pessaries not working - which I fear they havnt) is where to be when they call me. I think ill try to be outside somewhere wind swept and lovely.
Good luck!
