We are having huge sleep issues with Alex and plunket and the doc think it could be related to him having reflux, so I was wondering what foods a best to avoid

Definitely Potato or anything containing potato.

I would also think tomato? not sure haven't been willing to try it cause of the acidity of it.

I believe apple is one as well, especially store bought as they cook them with the skins on which is full of pectin.

Have you tried cutting out dairy? Just a suggestion, this does work for some who suspect reflux. My children used to scream a lot at night or wake up scream for an hr or so and this was due to their intolerence to certain foods (dairy being the main culprit)

It is heard of that children with dairy allergy tend to have sleeping problems...and my dairy-allergy child who had reflux as baby is a very poor sleeper and still is 2 years on.

They list foods to avoid on this site as far as I can tell they pretty much say don't eat anything LOL

I think that Violette was much worse last night because I had spinach and feta pie and probably a bit too much chocolate. :(

Vegetables (due to high acid or belching)

    * Broccoli
    * Green Peppers
    * Cabbage
    * Brussel Sprouts
    * Cauliflower
    * Tomato
    * Tomato Juice
    * Corn
    * Cucumber
    * Onions
    * Garlic
    * Turnips
    * Rhubarb
    * Kale

Fruits (due to high acid or lots of fiber and seeds)

    * Apple (especially peels)
    * Bananas (can cause constipation)
    * Citrus fruits
    * Figs
    * Coconut

Beverages

    * Milk (lactose intolerance can provoke reflux in some people)
    * Coffee (even decaffeinated)
    * Tea
    * Carbonated Beverages
    * Caffeinated Beverages

Starches

    * Beans (gas producing)
    * Oats (rolled oats OK)
    * Tofu (avoid large quantities)
    * Barley ( OK if perled barley is cooked 10-15 min)

Miscellaneous

    * Fatty or Fried Foods (fats take longer to digest)
    * Meat with connective tissue/gristle (take longer to digest)
    * Chili Powder
    * Vinegars
    * Chocolate
    * Molasses
    * Peppermint/Spearmint (Wintergreen is unrelated)
    * Honey
    * Caffeine
    * Foods with "air" such as fluffy baked goods, Meringues.
    * Swallowing air by sucking on hard candies or drinking from straws
    * Rye Seeds
    * Meat Extracts
    * Black Pepper (White pepper is OK)
    * Creamy Foods/Gravies (High fat content)
    * Gooey Pastries (High fat content)
    * Simple Sugar Foods
    * Excessive Fiber (increase very gradually as tolerated)
    * Pectin
    * High Energy Foods (digest slowly)
    * MCT Oil (medium chain triglycerides, digest slowly)
    * Guargum (thickener, digests slowly)
