Newborns sent home within hours

Nuts. Even as a second time mum, the thought of being sent home straight from the delivery suite, within hours of giving birth, scares the cr*p out of me.

And we wonder why rates of PND are going up - there's no support!

I would've loved to leave within a few hours after giving birth - in fact I think having to go into hospital to be induced, and then having to stay afterwards because Seb wouldn't feed were major contributors to my PND... I HATED hospital. I'd like to know how many of those choose to leave as soon as they could.

ETA: Of course if they're actually forcing people who don't want to leave early that's not on

I would have left sooner too but the nurse made me stay until 10am so she could do her rounds 1st and then sort out my discharge. I rang DH at 7:30am (would've been earlier but thought I'd let him have a sleep in) and asked him to come and get me as I didn't want to stay any longer - I wanted peace & quiet (I got to the ward at 11:30pm and I was stuck in a room with 4 other mums 1 who spent all night - literally all night - complaining).

I would have gone home right after having Benjy but my MW thought I should stay overnight. I was out of there ASAP the next morning though, I was SO bored and lonely!

Yeah it sucks but the problem is that there isn't enough midwives.

yeah I agree I don't thin kthe problem is so much people going home early the shortage of M/W if LMC wern't so streched eg having too many woman on their book's then they would have more time for each woman and then the ones who want to go home can with the confidence that their M/W would be available to help.
I think other's are right I think you will find alot of those woman would of been pretty ok to go home anyway like other's have said its a noisy place to be when all you want to do is sleep and focus on your baby.
That is why I am doing another homebirth no issues with this sort of thing then if I do end up at hospital its casue I need to be.

I'm the opposite lol, I WILL be getting my 3 nights at Birthcare come hell or high water - it's the only break I am going to get from Maya and the gremlins to get to know baby.

I do think that the media frame things in a sensationalist way and that a number of those women probably did choose to go home early, but there is definitely a pressure on 2nd and sub time mums to go home early, even here in Auckland where we have specialist postnatal care facilities.

I transferred to Birthcare at 11pm with the gremlins.
