Oh that is just horrible. Who the hell got her pregnant, bad enough that she is 12 but with a mental age of 6 as well. I hope they find him and lock him up.

this hits home, my sister is 22 with the mental age of a 6 year old.
Poor baby or not if my sister got pregnant (from someone clearly taking advantage of her ) i would hope the courts would rule for an abortion , because i know who would take care of the baby -my parents, who have already got a permanent baby in my sister, they will never be able to experience having an offspring free house ...i dont want them having to raise another child in their old age too.
The whole thing is disgusting and sad

I agree. As sad as this story is bringing a child into the world under these circumstances would not be fair.

With the intellectual age of a 6yr old, i'd also say it was the best thing to terminate. I can't even begin to imagine how the poor girl would cope with being pregnant.. but then also, how would she cope with the abortion? I don't know anything about abortion methods or anything though but at 18wks gestation... 
ETA it can't be an easy situation for either her or her family, its a really sad thing

six years old....God , would she have even been aware what was happening ? i mean ...surely he could get charged with SOMETHING for that right?
If you have sex with a 6 year old , its rape, ..wouldnt it be similar if they were 6 in the mind, even if not in the body ?

So either way the guy is in the wrong.
DH and I had a huge discussion about it yesterday (luckily we were both on the same side of the fence) - it left me feeling very confused and sad.
My cousin (who subsequently died at the hands of her partner) had two kids by the age of 14.
He's in prison, she's dead and the two kids have no idea

oh duh ! i didnt even think of that, shes only 12, so its still rape , hope he gets charged .

So sad, I feel awful for all involved that they ever found themselves in that situation.
But, how do you know that the father wasn't also a young person with the mind of a 6 year old?? I can't see anything in that article to indicate that she was definitely taken advantage of by someone that's not handicapped in some way themselves.

I was thinking the same thing Aprilfools. At my last job I had a selected few young girls from an IHC home who came in for the depo. Their family had consented. These girls were under 16years old with varying degrees of cognitive development. They were given the depo as contraception as they had been very promisicious (with other male residents) and also because they just couldnt cope with periods. They would play in it and have it everywhere. They just didnt understand.
Very very sad about the 12year old and her bubba
