Hey everyone, well went and saw the obstetrician yesterday about whether or not i could have a natural birth or if i had to have another c-section and he said that it would be best if i had another c-section.  I was planning on having them naturally if everything was fine but he said that its safer for me to have a c-section, but its still my decision.

When i had one with my son i was asleep and the obstetrician said that i will be awake for this one, i'm freaking out abit about being cut open while still awake (hope that doesn't gross anyone out) and being able to hear everything.  I know that being awake is better for me and i will get to see my babies straight away.  If any of you have had a c-section while awake please tell me that its not as bad as it think its gona be and put my mind at ease. Thanks Kelly.

I haven't had one, but have been witness to a few for my training etc. I think the part people find the most disturbing is the pulling sensation.. and sometimes they are a little forceful to get baby out, but they have said it's kinda like the dentist.. you feel pulling, but no pain. discuss it with your doc, some people find that sorta thing scary to think of, but they have a screen up, and you don't really hear anything or see anything. It is better for you nd babies if you are awake - as general anaesthetics carry more risks.. just think, at least this way you will be able to see babies straight away without having to wake up and feel all groggy and sick. hope things work out for you no matter what you choose.

I am wondering if I may have to have a c-section as well with my babies.
I have another scan on Mon to see what position they are in, but from the last scan and all the other ones before that- they have been breech.
I was hoping to have them naturally as its a much better recovery and who wants to be stuck in hospital!!
The specialist has said that they may turn but all the kicks I feel are low down.
I am a little freaked by the idea of having a c-section but in saying that they will give me a tubal ligation if all is expected to be well with the babies. yay!!!

I haven't had much experience with c-sects (other than freaking out and asking for one a few weeks before I had Maya!), but my Mum had a c-sect under general anasthetic when she had my youngest brother, and she said she felt groggy for days afterwards. I don't know what pain levels etc. after a c-sect with epidural, but I do know that I had the epidural durng labour and I was up and walking around shortly afterwards.

Also, my aunty had a c-sect with epidural and they left the epi in and kept topping it up for the first couple of days afterwards to help with pain relief.

I'm having another scan on tuesday.  The obstetrician said that i need to have monthly growth scans just wondering if you had this Delaneyhoes.  I think i want to be awake as i didn't get to see my son for an hour and a half because of being under general and even then i was sleeping most of the time was not a nice experience.

Yeah we are having 2 girls. I have had them check 3 times now and each time they say girls. 2 boys and 2 girls nice and easy.
I cant imagine what it would of been like finding out half way thru the pregnancy that it was twins! We were told at the first scan at 7 weeks and that was scary enough!
I am really starting to feel the size difference of having twins, I feel much bigger now than I did with my singleton preggys and I am not really that big belly wise-so I have been told. I think it has something to do with the fact that I have had gall stones and have had to be really strict with what I eat. It will all help after babies are born.
My concern now is the Super bug going around Wellington hospitals baby unit. I am to have my babes in wellington and I dont really want them exposed to that!

ew that superbug sounds scary!!

i think for the most part of the first 24 hrs they give you a pump in your iv, that allows you to self-admin pain releif as needed (it has a time-delay lock, lol, so no overdoses!!!)

my little sis had general, and i was still allowed to go in with her. but it took her the better half of 3 days to stop being groggy - i think she liked the pain releif too much as well.. lol. but it was weird.. you'd be talking to her and the next minute she would just fall asleep.. not great when you have a young baby to tend to!

Saw that Super Bug on the news the other night and it sounds scary.  Hopefully they have it all under control by the time your babies get here Delaneyhoes.

When I was pregnant with my son, he was in the breech position so my midwife loaned me a rocker thingy. I had to use it several times a day but by the time I went into labor he had turned around. Maybe ask your OB/midwife about it. I dont know what its called but from memory, you sat on it and moved you hips back and forth.
Hope it helps.

Hi Kas. I had my C section while I was awake. I was too busy talking to my partner to notice any noises. I did notice a pulling sensation but it didn't hurt.
Ok I know people are going to think I am a freak for saying this but I wanted them to pull the curtain down so I could see him when he came out.
I'm not squeamish at all but my partner was like "how weird would it be to see your tummy all open like that?????"
I have to say I found the recovery time pretty easy. I had Alex at 11.29pm on Labour Day & then had a good five hours sleep before getting up & having a shower. Still very sore but any way of giving birth has to have some kind of pain? And so worth it aye!

Hoping for natural next time around though! :)

Hi everyone, Just to let you know about the Superbug thing at Wellington Hosp. One of my friends went in last Thursday to have her twins, one was 4lb and the other was 6lb, born at 36 weeks. Both of them had to go into Neonatal (precautionery) and yeah both of them have been placed in the isolated area. They are basically saying that any new babies from when they released the news are placed in their own seperate area. Sounds fairly safe to me, but its not like you can see the bugs flying around, guess we just have to trust them, aye?

Yep, I was reading in the paper over the weekend that the risk to new babies coming in is no greater than in any other neonatal unit around the country as they have isolated the bug but as a precaution they are only taking premies from the Wellington area, any in the outlying areas that are normally zoned for Wellington are being sent to other hospitals.

Hi Kas,

I had a c-section 4 months ago and it's not as bad as you think. I stressed myself out that much the night before i was sick, how ever when it happened you seem to get so excited about seeing bubs that you forget to be worried. You feel a wee bit of pulling and prodding but it does'nt hurt at all. My anestist (wow what bad spelling) talked me and hubby the whole way though it. We are squeamish and waited until they held her up for us.

As for pain I was up and about after about 6 hours but was'nt in any real pain. They had me on a self medicating morfen (shocking spelling my brains stopped functioning today) drip and gave me panadol and voltarin, I refused all but panadol by the second day as I felt to out of it. I found the pain no worse than a natural birth. I had good support at home so I left hospital after 48 hours. Would have stayed longer if I had twins though.

Yeah the anesthetist that did my sister's did say that usually the side effects of the morphene are worse than the little bit of pain. still i spose, either way you're gonna be in some pain.. at least with a c-section you can probably sit down a bit easier later on. lol

Heck yes. I actually found recovery faster after the C-section than natural birth. Much easier to sit and you don't have to worry about the toilet and dreaded stitches.
