Topic: How old are you? Posted: 08 April 2005 at 1:55pm |
I know I'm being nosy, and feel free not to tell, but how old are you all? It seems to me we have quite a range of life experiences here, and I was wondering how old some of you are. Yes, you can be shy and tell us in a range (25-30 or 30+ or something like that)
I'll 'fess up first: I'm 24.

I'm just turned 24 and am the baby of our playcentre! I think part of it is the area, but most of the mothers there are early 30's. Just as well they are a good group of people

I'm 20 and the youngest at hannah's creche. I've actually found that once you have a kid that age doesn't seem to matter! Even the older mothers seem to treat me as if I'm one of the 'parent club'
(by the way - LOVE the parent club. Made a million new motherly friends in parent's rooms all over the country!)

I turned 21 at the beginning of March. Had the best 21st party thanks to my grandma looking after Alex so I didn't need to worry too much about him :-)

I turned 23 last month. I never thought i would have kids this young.. i mean i always thought it was a good age to have them.. but it didn't "fit" with my plans for study, marriage etc. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! I had been going to graduate from nursing, me and mike were gonna get married (would have been 19th feb this year) get a good job, work for a year, then maybe think about trying to have a baby. I thought I'd be 25 when i had my first.
now i'm 23, expecting my second, (and last!) not married.. though we call each other our husband/wife, still dragging out the nursing training and man do i feel old. still - i have always been a firm beleiver of the idea that everything happens the way it does for a reason. (how do i get all that out of answering a question about age?!)

Just turned 24. I was 21 when I got pregnant with Maya, and I was the youngest person at my antenatal classes, which freaked me out coz I didn't feel that young. And I'm still the youngest mum at Playcentre but the other mum's are really down to earth. I am in kind of a different league tho, they're all married with the 2.5 kids and the mortgage, and when I started there I was this 22 year old unemployed single Mum.
I never pictured that this is where I would be at this stage in my life, Mum was 27 when I was born and I thought that is a good age to start having kids, but fate (and dodgy contraceptive use had other plans. But I am pleased with how things turned out, and even tho it's been really tough, I think having Maya has been the making of me as a person, and I have opened a lot of different doors careerwise too just from the sheer instinct to get out there and provide for my child.

I'm 27! Looking at that as I typed, it seems old, but i still feel the same as I did when i was 16!!!! In fact, when i found out i was pregnant i was soooooo scared of telling my mum. I thought she'd be angry.....i was 25, and married....yet was still scared mum would tell me off for "getting myself into trouble"...she didn't in case you were wondering, she was over the moon!

I know what you mean Emma, being a young single mum does make you stronger and more focused. I guess it's cause there's noone else to do it for you! I'd just turned 20 the month before I found out I was pregnant with Kiya... and I found out at 18-20 weeks! I wouldn't change things though... I've grown so much as a person since becoming a mum.
