braeburns cook really well if you are after a sweeter apple than the trusty granny smiths. You won't have to add any sugar to a crumble if you use them either.
I use granny smiths for all baking... in the UK there is a way better selection of cooking apples :( Granny Smiths hold their shape well which is often useful!
I also eat granny smiths raw instead of other apples - can't stand sweet ones but this is probably cos I grew up eating the cooking apples off the tree in my Grandma's garden :)
