ECV

so it didn't work.....
now my next question is, has anyone had a second attempt at an ECV? they said I could try again on friday if I wanted to. in the meantime I have just been for acupuncture today and have another appt on thursday. they said they weren't overly confident that it would work but that it would be worth a shot if i wanted because it would be a different day so there could be more fluid or bubs may be in a better position to turn.

opinions please...will talk to my MW tomorrow about it.

Yea I had a ECV with footling breech. (first baby) I tell people not to do it... make sure they tell you everything about it. i felt pressured into it! was very scary! babies can be breech for a reason out of your control!

Hi, I'm just bumping this thread with my experience. We had an ECV yesterday at 38w 4d. We found out baby was breech at 37 weeks after a routine scan to check growth - I suspect baby has been breech for weeks but my midwife was just as shocked as we were.

We chose to do the ECV because I really didn't want to have a c-section, although was prepared to have one if it was necessary. We did a lot of research about the process and the risks associated, but felt that we would be at the hospital so if anything went wrong we would be in good hands. We arrived at the hospital and my midwife monitored baby for a while to check its heartrate. A registrar came in and did a scan to confirm baby's position and the location of the cord etc. All seemed well so they gave me the ventilin via injection and then we waited for it to kick in. It wasn't very nice, made my heart race and my pulse shot up. I got a bit of a headache and felt really nauseous, but I'm not sure if thats because of the meds or because I hadn't eaten since breakfast (they advised us not to). The registrar and obstetrician came in and scanned me again to check. Then they lowered the bed flat and down a bit more and got me to relax. The ECV wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I was expecting a really painful chinese burn, but while it was uncomfortable it wasn't like a chinese burn at all. I just closed my eyes and tried to breathe deep and slow, and it worked first go. I think it probably took about 2 minutes. Then they scanned me again to check baby's position, and then left. My midwife stayed with me to monitor me and baby. It seemed I was having regular contractions, but they died off later that night.

Every one has to make their own decision about whether to have an ECV, but I think you also need to take into consideration other circumstances like if its your first child, how much weight you might be carrying around your belly (to enable them to manipulate your belly easily), perhaps your pain threshold, and how you feel about other less "invasive" procedures and/or c-section etc. I agree with what someone said earlier, make sure you ask heaps of questions. For me I was prepared to try it to avoid a c-section, but I wasn't going to try acupuncture (its not for me). I did try a downward platform for me to lie on but it gave me a headache from the blood rush. I couldn't do downward facing dog as I have carpal tunnel (during pregnancy only) and I can't support my weight.
