Don't crush the granules!!!

They need to go into the tum whole, but yes open the capsule & sprinkle on the pears. Give at night too, as then you have more of a chance of having a better night sleep. I have found giving them around 5pm is a good time.

Make sure her bed is raised too it it's not.

A&Csmum, I thought so too.
Nina sleeps in a hammock so is naturally raised a little through the curving.

I still can't get her to take it! She just spits it out. Even tried funneling it through a slit teat....they just sit in the bottom tho.

Hmm yeh our chemist makes Leah's especially crushed and mixed with water I guess to liquid state so that I can syringe it in. I do it when she is happy playing on the floor or change mat and just squirt tiny bits in when she is smiling or something. It works really well so there shouldn't be any problem with crushing it.

Cause they are time release capsules. I've also heard that the liquid version is less effective after a week. Ahhh drumstx, just read that you get it weekly.

Try putting them in a big syringe with some water. Takes a few goes to get them all out though. I use the nurophen syringe if I've forgotten to give them with dinner.

Oh wow, wonder what our chemist does with ours then. Ours says it will only last a month, but haven't had any issues with it. Seems to work really affectivley. May be its the strength.

MUM2HIAWATHA I just contacted our pharmacy to get some info for you on losec.

They said you need to find a compound pharmacy. The reason I can get it in liquid form is because they have specialised equipment that not all pharmacies have. Losec is apparently an unstable compound and doesn't last long like what AandCsmum said. Prescriptions don't cost anything, but to have it made up specially in liquid form it only costs me 50cents per month.

It just needs to be kept refrigerated and shaken really good before administered every day.

So now you could possibly do a ring around in your area of pharmacies and ask if they are a compound pharmacy and/or if they have the equipment to make things into liquid form such as losec.

Thank you so much for this info! I'm very greatful for it.
I do think we need to go down that path of liquid losec as it's turning into a granules-everywhere-but-in-her-mouth-and-screaming session every morning and night. *sigh* She taks her ranitidine fine so I suspect she will be fine with the liquid losec which will not need acidic fruit with it either because apparently it needs milk straight after. Much better.

I will let you know how I go about finding a compound pharmacy.

good luck, i get mine every week and give it morning and night, definitly unstable and do need to shake heaps but my pharmacy waves my 10c a week and makes it every monday for me to pick up on the way to school, i hope that you can find one, though i was told that it was at its best to get weekly. it does taste yuk ( yes i tried it) and i did mix it with something else to cover the bitter taste. oh and you are doing great! reflux babies are so hard sometimes, it is hard not being able to fix the sad. all the best and let us know how u get on

Goodluck with getting it in liquid form!

That is really nice of your pharmacy to do that for you drumstx. My latest one is going to run out soon, but will need to go back to Dr as I have used up my repeats. Last time I was told to see how she would go without it so I am nervous he will do the same as it usually means a week of a screaming baby having reflux attacks

Just be aware that the liquid can lose effectiveness as it gets older - we found that after about 5 days, Zac started screaming at night again in pain. It also tastes very nasty!

We've since gone onto granules and they're great. I got a can of baby pears and put tiny blobs onto gladwrap in the freezer - so each night I just defrost one blob and put the granules with that. It's only about 1\4 teaspoon and he eats it well. Just another option

Liz that is a brilliant idea! I usually mush a pear 1/4 now but that would have been easier for a little bub.

arohanui, so it might not even be good enough to get the liquid weekly? I don't want her screaming again after 5 days.

We tried everything in terms of getting the granules into her!
On a spoon with puree, on the fingertip with puree, through a teat with big hole and watered down puree, etc!
As soon as she feels the granules she starts choking and tries to throw up

Julia, we find it lasts fine for 2 weeks, it's just the last few days Harlow starts to get a little bit niggly again. I think it's worth trying.

MUM2HIAWATHA jack as severe silent reflux, and is on the high dose, we have given him liquid losac for the past year, he is 2yrs now, and i havent had a problem, i do get it every week as lessens in efftectiveness after that time. I would really recommend trying it, jack hardly eats and he too would gag and throw up when i gave him the granules. Just need to shake it really well and it is so much easier., i am so greatful that i can give it this way afta fighting with the granuales for 3months.

I got the liquid last night and DH and I tried it out of solidarity with DD before she had her first dose this morning.
It tastes morbidly gross, might aswell eat a tablespoon of baking powder but it's much easier to get into her!

The only thing is that the slimey, arrogant pharamcist 'Harvey' didn't have a clue about when the best time to administer is. Reckons it doesn't matter at all!

In the end I decided to give her the ranitidine 15-30min before feed and the losec straight before the feed.

I would split it. Give the ranitidine in the morning & give the losec around 4-5pm

Oh FX it does the trick for you. I'm definitely going to question our chemist now as they give me a monthly dosage of losec, but it does seem to be working so may not need to worry.

I give Leah's in the morning first thing as I found her reflux was worse during the day time.
