What method were you anaesthetised?

Just wondering how all you girls were anaesthetised?
I had a spinal with my last one in the UK but can see that many women had an epi and some a GA. What are my options over here as it's my first caesar over in NZ.
Anyone had a caesar in Nelson?

ive had an epi for the first and a spinal for the 2nd. They wont give you a general unless something is going wrong and they have to get baby out REAL fast. I preferred the spinal over the epi. If you're having an elective they wont give you an epi, they'll do a spinal which is MUCH nicer!
i had Lily at 10.30am and was out of bed 12 hours later. Wanted to have a shower but I felt a bit dodgy so they made me wait til the next day. Had full feeling back after 6 hours.

knocked out tottaly i had had anuff of the pain and was sooo scared it tyook them 2 and a half hours to wake me up though

I had a spinal (it was an elective). The only thing I didn't like was that I could wiggle my toes the whole time so I thought it wasn't working! lol

Tishy its the location it is placed that is the difference.

Electives are given spinals and some emergencies, though most emergencies the patient already has an epi in so they just top it up stronger than they would for a Vaginal Delivery.

GA are usually only done for crash sections.

Of course there are always exceptions to the rule but that is the general practise

Can I be a bit nosey and ask why you didnt want an epi? Just curious really, no other reason LOL

I had epi's with both of mine, I had one going into my 3rd day of being in labour with DS and within an hour his heart rate went down the crapper so they topped it up and whisked me off to thatre, otherwise I'd have gone under a GA.

With DD (elective) it took several attempts to do an epi and I ended up with wicked bruising all the way down my back! Hoping they dont make such a hash job of it this time!!

I had spinal for my c sect but then I hadn't had any pain relief until then, I am guessing if the patient already had epi then they would just top it up, but I am sure I read somewhere that the spinal works faster which would be why they use for c sect.
Glad to say they got it in first pop for me although I don't remember it much either...think I was too worried about baby.

I've had GA twice too (been an adventurous time trying for baby) and that is super sonic weirdo.....in some ways really fascinating to wake up and be like huh??..but in some ways kinda creepy ya know! Would def never choose that for c sect unless had to get baby out right now.
