First of all, apply for child support now.
I applied pretty much as soon as Hannah was born without realising that you have to have established paternity before child support can start happening. But... (hehehe this is the good part ) when I called the department the lady who was talking to me said "We'll put your application on file, but unfortunately that means that the child support payments will be backdated to when you applied." *muhahaha* That works fine and dandy for me, as when the DNA tests come through Chris will be obligated to pay from Nov 04. I'm so nasty! Kept me smiling for weeks
You will only have to pay a $50 contribution to the lawyer you use and I'm pretty sure you will be able to get legal aid. He'll unfortunately have to come up with his side if he is working. So I guess it is ultimately him who suffers by getting the DNA tests done.
Maybe when paternity is proven he'll make more of an effort and accept some responsibility?
Good luck! If you have any questions ask away. I'm getting my results in the next month. I can't wait for Chris to hear from his lawyer that he is Hannah's father. Stupid boy.

If he wants it so badly make him pay all costs - it will be his loss and egg on his face. Try not to let his negativity ruin the wonders of being as mum

Niki....I loved your "Muhaha"...cracked me up!
I agree...if he wants it let him pay for it.
I dont know the rules like Niki...but getting lump sum of money cant be bad for you ya? Do what is best for you and your baby.
Good luck!

Hey if he wants the paternity test then let him get it done! If he wants to know then he has to pay. The only thing that could go wrong was if it came up that he wasn't the dad then you would have to pay back the costs, but it sounds to me that there is no chance of that happening!!
This happened to my friend Stephanie and her ex paid the price and it came back positive that it was his. Now he is paying child support and even now and again actually comes to see his daughter Michaela

I agree some men are sooooo lame. And i get really annoyed with the whole DNA test thing when deep down you know they know the truth. And its so sad to see dads out there missing out on such amazing joy in watching their kids grow up. Well as everyone else is saying he can pay for the dna test and look like a fool when it comes back positive. Be positive and dont let him get you down. As for getting back together well thats up to you but make him prove his worth to you first!!!!

My sons fathers mother hated me when Caleb was born I was a SL*T and was just trying to trap her son for his money???? what ever what she didnt know then was he had so much debt he had no money, But also I left him while I was preg and she was stilla b*tch to me sayn we we would get nothing from them and Im a family wrecker.. They tried to force D.N.A tests but I refused my son was so sick and on ICU in the neo nates but they made thet trip down to palmy to see him at about 5days old, they knew straight away that he was there paterenal grandchild as the poor boy does actually look like his dad, and they excepted us from that day onwards and play a big part in Calebs life as he is older he goes to Taupo and stays on there farm with them, and if I want to get away I go up there to, they are like another set of parents now, but Caleds stupid sperm donor dosnt see jack of him, he promised hed move to palmy and wed get back together and hed be a great dad blah blah, he came to visit seemy regularly for the first year and that was it, im so glad we didnt get back together cause he is so unreliable, he was 24 when I had Caleb and to this day he acts lie alittle boy...

Tami, only get back with him if you want to. It's not worth the stress and uncertainty for you and your son if it's not going to be good for you.
Otherwise make him prove himself. If he's a good Dad and boyfriend then maybe he is worth it!

Ditto that! Willie and I split up when Maya was 3 mths old, and he spent 18 mths trying to prove that he was a good Dad and partner, and I think he's finally got it! He's taken Maya today up to visit his family while I pack to go to Aussie tomorrow. Mind you, it's been a long time coming, all thru my pregnancy he was horrible.
