Fish pie
Seafood and fish are great sources of zinc and protein for little ones. Nothing beats a warm fish pie on a cold day for some ultimate comfort food. This recipe freezes well, so is great for a quick lunch or dinner when you are busy.
Ingredients
1 tablespoon butter/oil
1 tablespoon flour
1 cup milk of your choice
2 fillets white fish (cut into chunks)
1 tin salmon
1 cup frozen peas
1 tablespoon parsley (finely chopped)
3-4 medium potatoes (peeled and cut into chunks)
½ cup grated cheese
Method
1. Preheat oven to 180° Celsius.
2. Place potatoes into a pot of boiling water and cook until soft.
3. Melt butter/oil in a pan.
4. Add flour to melted butter/oil and mix.
5. Over a moderate temperature, add milk in small amounts as you mix. Keep mixing until smooth. You may need to use a whisk if the flour clumps.
6. Add white fish and salmon into the white sauce. Cook until fish is tender. You may need to add a small amount of extra milk if it becomes too thick.
7. Add peas and parsley and cook for 2-3 mins.
8. Mash potatoes with a small amount of butter and milk until smooth.
9. Place white sauce with fish into small ramekins.
10. Top with mashed potato.
11. Place grated cheese on top of the potato and bake in oven for 20-30mins or until browned on top.
12. This can be blended to make it into a puree for babies. Enjoy!
