Spend less time shopping and more time snuggling
After months of anticipation it’s nearly time for your baby to make its entrance into the big wide world. As you near the end of your pregnancy, you’re probably very curious about the little person that’s in there! What will they look like? What kind of personality will they have? This can be a great time to plan for the early days with your new family member – and finding cute baby clothes is a much-awaited milestone for many.
When choosing babywear for your little ones, we know many of you are thinking consciously about the impact your purchases have on our precious planet. Finding garments that are kind on both your baby and the earth is more important than ever.
Knowing what to look for when choosing baby garments is important; H&M works actively to secure the softest, most comfortable and more sustainable materials for its range of clothes for the littlest ones. Their baby garments for newborns are made from only organic cotton.
Sofia Löfstedt, Head of Kidswear Design at H&M, says that H&M is very aware that we’re all facing the enormous challenge of keeping our planet healthy, both for the present and future generations. “H&M bears a great responsibility for changing how fashion is made and used. Through research and innovation, we want to lead the change towards a circular and climate-positive fashion industry,” she says.
To qualify as a sustainable garment, a product needs to contain at least 50 percent recycled or sustainably produced material, for example organic cotton or recycled polyester. Organic cotton is grown without using chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilisers, it also doesn’t contain any genetically modified organisms (GMO), which means it has less of an impact on the climate than non-organic cotton. In many of H&M’s garments, much more than 50 percent of the materials are sustainably produced, and they are now actively taking steps to ensure that all of the polyester they use is recycled.
At H&M, you can find everything from practical tips to thoughtfully-designed, more sustainable garments so you can spend less time shopping around and more time snuggling your baby.
H&M’s checklist of how to make more sustainable garment choices:
- Choose organic, recycled or sustainably produced materials when buying new clothes
- Read H&M’s Take Care guide on their website for tips on how you can make your clothes last longer
- Maximise a garment’s lifetime by saving it for younger siblings or giving it away to other parents or humanitarian organisations
- Bring clothes you no longer use to any H&M store and they will make sure the garments are recycled or reused
