"We currently have hundreds of hopeful families just waiting for the help of an amazing donor
It is life-changing, an amazing gift"
Dr Andrew Murray, Fertility Associates
Why is there a shortage?
We provide sperm to couples and single woman. On top of the constant demand, we are seeing an increasing number of single women who are looking at egg freezing as an option who also may go on the wait list for a sperm donor to help them conceive a baby.
What are the requirements for donating sperm?
To be a clinic sperm donor you need to be aged between 20 and 45 years, have a good sperm sample (we will test this along the way), and be a New Zealand resident.
Is there payment?
In New Zealand, it’s illegal to pay for or give “valuable consideration” for sperm donation. Fertility Associates can pay travel expenses for clinic donors and these are paid to you after the final clearance tests.
How long does it take to get through the process?
Understandably, we undertake some initial screening which firstly involves filling out an online form, checking the sperm quality and doing a saliva test to check for genetic conditions.
This is then followed by a consultation with our Doctor and Counsellor to work through medical and family history checks. If all goes well, the donor starts banking sperm which is held on ice until it can help a hopeful family begin treatment.
Help the many hopeful families trying to have a baby.
