DIY: house-shaped chalkboard for your kids

Create a space for your little ones to play and show off their creative flair with this cute house-shaped chalkboard.

YOU WILL NEED:

 1 piece of 6 mm MDF (1200x900 mm)

 1 piece of pine for the bottom (770x65 mm and 18 mm thick)

 2 pieces of pine for the sides (663x65 mm and 18 mm thick)

 2 pieces of pine for the roof (800x65 mm and 18 mm thick and 735x65 mm and 18 mm thick)

 Jigsaw, power drill, tape measure, paint brushes, pencil, screws

 Resene Blackboard Paint

 Test pot in Resene Regent Grey

Step 1 Measure and mark in pencil the middle of the top of the MDF sheet (45 cm), then measure 45 cm down each side and mark with pencil. This will give you the roof shape.

Step 2 Using a jigsaw, cut excess wood off the sides to create the house shape.

Step 3 Paint the house-shaped piece of wood in two coats of Resene Blackboard Paint.

Step 4 Take the two roof pieces of pine and cut one to 800x650 mm wide and the other one to 735x650 mm using a jigsaw.

Step 5 Cut the two side pieces of pine to length with one end of each piece being cut on a 45 degree angle. These pieces of pine will fit under the roof pieces.

Step 6 Measure and cut the piece of wood that will sit on the bottom part of the house.

Step 7 Paint all your pine pieces in Resene Regent Grey, or colour of choice.

Step 8 Lay all the pieces of wood down on a flat surface to create the house shape. Then take the house-shaped board and lay over the top of the wood pieces ready for screwing in.

Step 9 Screw through the back of the house board into the pine frame using a drill and 20 mm screws.

Step 10 Turn over and screw onto the wall.
