How to: renovate your dolls house
Summer often means house painting. Start small with a project to delight the youngest of home owners.
A doll's house is a great place to try out colour schemes you'd never be brave enough to paint on your actual house. What's more, with plenty of secondhand doll's houses available, you can practise your home makeover skills while giving new life to a classic plaything.
You will need
• Paintbrushes of various size
• A small roller and sleeves
• A pencil
• Masking tape
• Sandpaper
• Resene Lumbersider waterborne low sheen paint or Resene testpots in your choice of colours
• Resene Aquaclear (optional)
Method
1. Clean and lightly sand all surfaces. Decide on your colour scheme and any decorative features.
2. Apply a base coat to the whole house with a roller or brush. We used Resene Fringy Flower for the exterior and Resene Villa White for the interior.
3. Isolate areas with masking tape and paint your feature walls and flooring. We created a tile effect on the kitchen floor using Resene Cupid and Resene Moonbeam.
4. Paint any finishing details and furniture with a small brush.
5. We glued on a new roof, using 'shingles' cut from balsa wood. Finishing the roof with a coat of Resene Aquaclear will make the surface easier to clean later.
6. Once all paint is dry, remove the masking tape and move in!
