Op Show Do-Up - Transform A Chest Of Drawers
Channel your inner modern artist for this geometrical paint scheme that adds an instant wow factor to a very ordinary set of drawers.
A $10 op-shop find becomes a striking statement piece after applying a clever paint scheme using Resene colours.
Step one: Sand the chest of drawers using three grades of sandpaper.
Step two: Paint the exterior with white Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss waterborne enamel. We chose seven colours for our geometric colour scheme but you could simplify and use just two or three.
Step three: Take the drawers out and sand them. Then, with a pencil, mark the half-way point on the front of each drawer. From that mid-point mark out three squares on each side with a pencil. Then divide each square diagonally in half to make triangles.
Step four: With Resene’s professional green masking tape, tape around the edges of your first lot of triangles. Because of the overlapping tape, we were unable to paint more than three triangles per drawer at a time. Make sure you don’t paint the edges of the drawers to avoid a build-up of paint that will make sliding the drawers difficult.
Step five: Apply two coats of Resene Lustacryl on each triangle before removing the tape and moving on to the next colour.
Step six: Leave the paint to dry before putting your new drawers into use.
Tip: For a higher gloss look, use Resene Enamacryl gloss waterborne enamel.
