High hopes
Fill a light, serene bedroom with kites, clouds and globes to inspire your little one to dream big.
When American photographer Christine Berry was designing her son Lennon's nursery, she knew she wanted the core of the design to be simple, bright and tranquil. "Think folksy-meets-modern-
vintage," she says.
The soft whites of the walls and furniture are more calm and inviting than cool and clinical. By injecting a few subtle pops of colour here and there, Christine achieved her vision.
"Ultimately I want his room to make him happy, make him comfortable, and inspire him to be all he wishes to be."
The feature that really stands out and makes Lennon's room a warm, inviting and inspirational place are the handmade touches his clever and crafty mum Christine introduced. She made the bunting and cloud mobile, as well as the embroidery hoops and pillows.
The project with the embroidery hoops, is simple but very effective and you don't need to be a master at handicraft to recreate it. But if you don't have the time or talent to create such projects yourself, head online to one of the great marketplaces for hand-made crafts such as the home-grown www.felt.co.nz, or www.etsy.com. Alternatively, if you want the added experience of meeting the person behind the products, head along to one of the local craft fairs which are becoming increasingly popular thanks to a resurgence in handicrafts.
Check www.felt.co.nz for a list of craft events that may be coming up in your area.
