Rooms for two: a playroom and nursery for a special pair

One room for rest, one room for play. Stephanie Nash shows us around her sons’ nursery and playroom. 

Planning a dream nursery in hopeful anticipation was just the distraction Stephanie Nash needed while she and her husband journeyed through a season of struggling to fall pregnant. With a positive attitude and clinging to optimism, Stephanie collected items in gender-neutral whites, greys, greens and mustards. The couple had already decided that they wouldn’t find out the sex of their baby when it was their turn to be expectant parents. The real sweet surprise, when the Nash’s pregnancy test finally showed a positive: it wasn’t just one precious babe they were expecting, but two – sons James and Callum, now affectionately known as the Nashy Pears.

How did you come up with a cohesive look for both the rooms?
I’ve always been drawn to white, clean spaces. I knew this would be the basis of the pears’ nursery, but at the same time, I wanted the space to feel warm and inviting. I feel I achieved this by adding the light wood cots and other wooden decor. I also wanted the space to be original and stay true to my styling, so I decided to incorporate the faux greenery with pops of mustard. In the playroom I drew on the colours of the alphabet poster, and I included whites and greys with wooden toys to add warmth to this room, too. 

What are your best tips for creating a space for twins to share?
I wanted the nursery to grow with the boys, so I purchased cots that change into toddler beds, and instead of a change table, I used a chest of drawers with a change mat on it. 

What are your favourite aspects of the nursery and playroom?
I love the light and warmth the rooms have. My favourite part of their nursery is the faux greenery mobiles. The boys love staring at them as they drift off to sleep. My favourite part of the playroom is the Cattywampus teepee, I can just imagine the hours of imaginative play that they will have in future! 

What was your biggest splurge, and your best bargain?
The most expensive item in the nursery would be their cots, but they do convert into toddler beds. And in the playroom it would be the Fiona Walker lion head from Leo & Bella.  And our best bargain would be the Kmart rug in the nursery.
