Philips Avent Breast Pumps
The more relaxed you feel when expressing, the more milk you’ll be able to express.
Philips Avent Comfort Breast Pumps are designed to help you feel more relaxed - you’re able to sit up straight as you express so you can feel confident your milk will flow even if you’re not leaning forward.
The unique soft massage cushion on the breast pump funnel has a soft velvety texture that gives a warm feel to the skin, for comfortable, gentle stimulation of your milk flow. During pumping, it gently compresses the breast, mimicking baby's suckling for natural let down and clinically proven effectiveness.
Just like your baby’s suckling action, a breast pump triggers the release of oxytocin (a feel-good hormone) in your body. Oxytocin then gives your body the signal to start releasing milk. This means the higher your oxytocin levels, the easier it will be to trigger a let-down and draw out milk. So it also helps if your breast pump is designed with comfort in mind.

05/04/2018 -This is a review for the single electric Philips Avent Breast Pump. This was my first time using a breast pump. I wanted to express so my husband could do some feeds and I could go out without the baby and not have to use formula. I try to express twice a day, or more if I have a specific event to go to. I generally express after a feed to empty that side and find I get the most milk at night or in the mornings. The pump was easy to put together. I liked the massage cushion it was comfortable and fit well. The milk started flowing after a couple of minutes. Expressing twice a day for about 30 mins would get me about 100-160mls which would allow my husband to do one feed. The massage and suction modes and were easy to use. I expressed into the bottle provided and transferred the milk into the clip top Avent storage cups that I got separately. I stored in both the fridge and freezer. The lid provided with the breast pump to store the bottle milk did not seem quite airtight and I couldn’t figure out how it worked. The clip top Avent storage cups were quite hard to open and I ended up spilling some milk. I now use the storage cups in the freezer and loosen the lid before defrosting the milk. My husband generally does one bottle feed of EBM a day. This is usually the evening feed around 10/11pm so I can go to bed earlier. I have only used the Avent bottles (smallest size) and really like them. Our baby took a couple of goes to take the bottle the first time, but has latched easily to the teat and still breastfeeds well. The breastfeeding kit was good. It would have been good to have better lids for the Avent bottles so they could be stored in the fridge and a bigger storage bottle too would have been great. That would be the only recommendations I would make. Otherwise this was a good product that totally met my needs.

26/03/2018 -I have been using the Philips Avent electric pump and this is the only pump I have ever used. I found it took a bit of time to put together but once I had it figured out it was easy to use and quick to take apart for cleaning. The pump is comfortable and easy to hold or use when feeding on the other side. I have been pumping directly in to the bottle but I do like the option to use storage cups because I will be able to use these when I return to work and continue to express. The unit has 3 different suction settings and I found the lowest one worked the best for me, but is good to know there are other options if needed. I also like the long cord and the optional use of batteries which makes the whole thing a lot more portable, both at home and away. I will be continuing to use the pump throughout my breastfeeding and am glad to be able to easily use this to express once I return to work.

26/03/2018 -I have been using the Philips Avent single electric breast pump for awhile now and can honestly say I love it! In hospital I was using a Medela electric pump as initially my son was jaundice and lethargic, falling asleep after 2 minutes on the breast. That, combined with his tongue tie causing poor latch, meant that I needed to express after every feed to increase my milk supply. After coming home from hospital I was using the Philips Avent manual breast pump at first, but I found it was time consuming especially when I was needing to pump after every feed. I switched to the Philips Avent single electric breast pump and it was a lifesaver! It is very quick and straightforward to assemble, takes apart easily to clean and sterilise, and is a nice compact and portable unit. I found it to be much more effective than using a hand pump as I expressed much larger quantities of milk in a much shorter time frame, probably spending a maximum of 20 minutes total from putting it together and expressing to finishing up sterilising. The soft massage cushion was very comfortable on my breast and nipple, which was a welcome relief after using the hard plastic breast cup on the hospital’s pump which caused a lot of pain and discomfort. I also found the stimulation mode to get my milk flowing much more gentle (yet still effective) than the hospital’s pump. Having 3 strengths of suction mode was great as at times my nipples could be sore from feeding and so I would use a lower strength mode for more gentle expressing. One of the best features has to be the relaxed position you can express in with this pump. I developed a very sore back and shoulders from breastfeeding and carrying my son about, and being able to relax back on the couch or in bed against the pillows is a huge benefit. I usually expressed straight into the Philips Avent bottles and stored those in the fridge to be used the next day, but expressing with this pump did such a good job of increasing my milk supply that I soon needed to purchase the Philips Avent storage cups. These cups fit perfectly with the Philips Avent pumps and make it an easy and mess-free way to store your milk. I now have quite a good back up supply in the freezer which will be used when I have surgery in a couple of months. The one small negative I found with this pump is that it is a bit noisy. Initially I was worried it would wake our bub and that I’d have to go to another room to express, but both my partner and bubs slept (snored) away quite happily! So at first I found it quite noisy but quickly got used to it the more I used it, and now it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. So overall I found the pump to be excellent and I’d highly recommend it to anyone.

26/03/2018 -I used the Philips Avent electric breast pump. It was my first time using this brand. I had previously used a Medula electric pump. I needed to express before starting back at work to get a supply in the freezer. I struggle with milk supply so just expressed once a day at night before bed. I felt confident doing this once my daughter was consistently sleeping through the night. Initially I only got around 10-20ml each side, but after a few weeks of expressing every night I could get 40ml each side. I found the pump easy to assemble and clean. It is rather loud in comparison to the other electric pump I’ve used. The soft massage cushion was comfortable, much more then my old pump. I found this pump had a better suction, therefore my let down and flow of milk was quicker/easier. I needed to hold the suction cup firmly in place so it wasn’t hands free for me. The storage cups are fantastic. I expressed directly into them (twice within a 24hr period) then would freeze straight away. My daughter hasn’t drunk from bottle yet, but my older daughter used the Avent natural bottles and we love them. Overall we’re happy with the experience of using this pump and storage cups. Would definitely recommend to other Mums, and will continue to use them for the remainder of my breastfeeding journey.

26/03/2018 -I absolutely love this pump! The Avent Natural Twin Electric is a great option for twin mums looking to invest in an affordable, highly functional and comfortable double pump for home use. I’d previously been renting a Medela double electric pump and just like the name suggests, I found the Avent to be a much natural and comfortable option delivering similar effectiveness to the hospital grade pump I’d previously used. I love that I am able to lean back and relax on the couch while pumping, as I’ve always had to lean forward using other pumps, which can be quite straining on your upper back and shoulders. Being that the pump isn’t “hospital grade” I was skeptical about being able to express the same volume of milk I had using my other pump, but was pleasantly surprised to discover there was absolutely no difference in performance. I also love that the shields fit my nipples without having to experiment with different nipple shield sizes, something a twin mum just doesn’t have time to do! The pump is super portable and I am able to move it around the house depending on where I need to pump. I also comes with a nice carry bag to allow for expressing at work or while traveling, something that wasn’t’ an option for my much larger electric pump. The only downside is the pump is quite noisy meaning I have to find a different room to express in if the bubs are sleeping.

26/03/2018 -The first time trying this event single electric breast pump for me and I found it quite easy to assemble. As I turned it on, the first thing I noticed was the loud noise of the suction pump, something minor but it is quite loud. I express regularly if I have extra milk, usually my little one drinks straight from a cup or I make smoothies with the milk so I can't comment on the use of the bottles/teets. The cushion suction cup was comfortable, but it comes with a fixed size attached and you have to order a different size separately if it doesn't fit you rather than a quick change of sizes like some other designs. The connection between the pump and the bottle felt like it came loose quite easily, I had to tighten it a couple of times during pumping if I was moving around and not concentrating. The settings are slightly intimidating because they are really loud, but all of the pump settings were actually very gentle and there was no pain even with the highest setting. The storage cups are easy to attach and easy to use, I put them straight into the fridge or freezer rather than use for bottles. I didn't let down very quickly to this pump compared to my hand pump, which I seem to be able to pump more milk with. Overall I found it a very user friendly pump that was comfortable to use, and liked the milk storage options.

26/03/2018 -The stimulation mode did little for me and milk only started coming on the lowest setting of the actual extraction mode, which didn't really matter. I never tried any of the higher modes because I found the lowest one quite strong. Because the soft cushion wasn't a great fit for me, I had some trouble getting into a comfortable position without losing suction. However, when everything was in place I managed to express 30ml in 30 mins, which was a lot at the time considering my low supply (I started with less than 10ml at the beginning). I used the storage cups to directly express into. We used tubes to feed baby, rather than bottles because we had to make sure that the latch was improving before introducing another kind of ‘nipple’. The storage cups are fantastic and I loved that they fitted the pump so no losing of any drop of the hard earned milk. I stored the milk in the fridge as a top up for the following feed. I also use one of the cups to keep the pacifier clean (they are a handy size). I have not yet used a bottle. Overall, the breast pump was a great device to help with my milk supply at an emotionally testing time. I think I should have read the manual closer, so suggest others to make themselves familiar with the functions before baby arrives. The sound of the breast pump is something I had to get used to, but it doesn't bother me. I highly recommend the storage cups - so good how they fit straight into the pump.

25/03/2018 -I have an electronic Philips Avent breast pump and it is the only breast pump I have used. I find it very easy to assemble, use and clean afterward. I have started pumping twice a day. I want to freeze heaps of milk before I return to work so we will not have milk supply issue. I will continue to express during work to feed my baby. The breast pump has very good suction and I spend about half an hour a day to express between 50 - 70 ml, which is the amount I want to store in a Philips Avent reusable container. I love the soft massage cushion! It is so comfortable on my breast and helps with the milk flow.

25/03/2018 -I have only used the Avent Manual pump which I have loved. I do have a good milk supply however, and can get 100mls in well under 10 minutes so I don't see the point in trying another pump. I use it when my breasts get engorged or my little one doesn't feed from the other side. It is very easy to assemble and clean, the only problem I have found, which is being pedantic, is the squeak my pump handle makes when pumping. The cushion is good, it sometimes pinches if not on right, but has a good fit. Overall I like the manual pump - it suits my lifestyle and you can do it anywhere. I would use the bottle and poor into a plastic bag to freeze after expressing as I am solely breastfeeding at this stage.

25/03/2018 -I used the manual Avent breast pump and found it really easy to use. Really straightforward and could even use it when breastfeeding my son on the other breast. It's not quite a one-handed job though, so a bit of balance and cushions were required. There are quite a few parts to it but was easy to dismantle for sterilising and took 1 min to put back together. Even my husband can do it in a hurry ! It's great that the bottles attach straight to the bottom and the measurements on the bottle are clear and concise. It was comfy to use and after a day of a baby latching being comfy is important.

23/03/2018 -I found the pump super easy to assemble and the pump itself is user friendly. There were a few more parts involved in assembling in comparison to other pumps that I have used. I like that it provided options for different levels of suction. The battery option a great idea particularly for when out and about/travelling, or when no power socket is available. The pump was very compact which made it so easy to move around the house with me – could express in bed in my room, on the couch downstairs etc. I really liked the soft massage cushion insert – would be handy if it was just fixed so it is one less piece of equipment to put together. Wish other pumps had this! I love that I can express straight into the bottle and give it to my partner to bottle feed my daughter as part of her evening routine. Being able to also express straight into the storage containers means less work and cleaning involved. I found it a lot more comfortable to use then other pumps but a tad less effective in expressing too in comparison to other pumps but perhaps this is related to the suction diaphragm or differences in suction. I am able to sit comfortably upright whilst expressing. Dislikes: Very noisy pump, the sound itself I found quite intimidating (thought the suction was going to be really strong!) in comparison to the actual suction. Almost felt I couldn’t use it at times because I was worried about it being too noisy for others in the room/nearby. You do eventually drone out the sound though like white noise, but it’s that initial first few minutes that can be quite intimidating. I found the suction diaphragm a bit frustrating, as it wouldn’t move so freely which meant there wasn’t a good suction. Took me a while to realise this was the problem when no more milk was being expressed. It was handy it came with a spare. Not sure what the cost would be for more but could become expensive for the user having to replace it. Perhaps part of the reason that I felt I got more milk off my Spectra pump versus the Philips Avent comfort electric single pump as it would mean efficient suction. I found I would have backflow of milk into the suction diaphragm. It didn’t have any effect on the pump/suctioning at the time though.
